Janice Berridge make-up artist and owner of The Village Spa in Lake Balboa. As well as Dunya’s friends and owners of Gumtree in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach. http://www.thevillagespainlakebalboa.com/

Red Lentil Soup

1 tablespoons canola oil or peanut oil

½ cups yellow onion, chopped

½ cup celery chopped

½ cup carrot, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

Salt to taste

½ tsp cumin seeds, ground

¼ tsp coriander seeds, ground

½ tsp hot Madras curry powder

½ can chopped tomatoes with juice

1 cup red lentils, washed and picked over

1 quart vegetable stock

1/4 tsp ground black pepper (more to taste)

Cayenne to taste (optional)

2 tsp lime juice

  1. Heat the oil in a large, heavy soup pot over medium heat and add the onion, celery and carrot. Cook, stirring, until tender, about 5 minutes,

Add the garlic, 1 teaspoon salt, the cumin, coriander, and curry powder. Stir together for about 2 minutes, until the garlic is fragrant.

Stir in the tomatoes with their juice. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring often, for 10-15 minutes, until the tomatoes have cooked down slightly. Add salt to taste.

  1. Stir in the lentils and water or chicken stock. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover and simmer 30 minutes. Add salt to taste and continue to simmer for 15 to 30 minutes, until the lentils have fallen apart and thickened the soup. Using the back of your spoon, mash the lentils against the side of the pot to thicken the soup further. Add the pepper, taste and adjust salt.

Stir in the lime juice.

  1. Puree 2/3 rds of the lentils in batches in a blender, and return to the pot with the unblended 1/3rd of lentils. Heat through and serve, topping each bowl with a dollop of yogurt and a sprinkling of chopped cilantro.

Besides teaching film. I love sharing the healing arts as well as delving into manifestation using our mind's eye.

Just wanted to share the article I came across below as it focuses on the upcoming auspicious day of Aug. 8th known as the Lion's Gate. Enjoy this read and remember to set intentions and use affirmations at this time.Choose 5-10 and write them down in a place you can see them, maybe even putting each one on a post-it and scattering them through your space! Repeat them as much as possible and watch how your mind shifts and your vibrational energy becomes more expansive!

Examples:

***It’s already mine

I'm the main character

I am beyond capable

My talents help me succeed

Success comes easy to me

I expand into myself with each passing moment

I am deserving

I am dedicated to my craft

I love learning about myself and the world around me

Everything is happening for me

My life is brimming with abundance

I embody the shining elements of the sun and leo

I move through challenges easily and successfully

I embrace my shortcomings and transmute them into opportunities

I find the mysteries of life exciting

Magic is always brewing

I am constantly shedding and evolving

I welcome change as it brings opportunities

I am the ultimate creator and architect of my life

I enjoy the fruits of my labor

I am blossoming and unfurling

I am fearless***

The amazing, inspiring and talented entrepreneur, performer, creative, activist Bekka Fink of Rockstar Organizer from Berkeley, CA. https://rockstarorganizer.com/  https://bekkafink.com/ https://www.peoplespark.org/wp/ https://oaklandtheaterproject.org/crucible Queena’s superfood parfait

Any kind of yogurt works. Forager is great if you don’t eat dairy. For dairy, I recommend Nancy’s nonfat probiotic.

Other ingredients: local Bee pollen, chia seeds, coconut manna, shredded coconut, maple syrup (optional), Cinnamon, oat or almond milk, Fresh vanilla beans and/or vanilla extract, fresh and or frozen fruit-I like Blueberries, raspberries, bananas, and stone fruit( Peaches, Apricots, nectarines, etc.…), and sometimes I add dry rolled oats, ground flax, and hemp seeds.

Start with the bowl of yogurt. Then spoon in Chia. I don’t have an exact science about measurements but you can be generous with the seeds. From here add cinnamon, maple syrup, A touch of oat or almond milk (vanilla flavor or plain), flax and shaved coconut. If you want to use flex and hemp, add them here.

If your fruit is frozen (do not add banana yet), place into a small pan with a touch of maple syrup ( you may also use raw honey or agave), cinnamon, and vanilla. If you use fresh fruit, warm up the manna, vanilla, and maple separately with at least a few berries. Low heat. Try using a little bit of the manna the first time you make it. If you like it, feel free to be generous with it in the recipe. The key here is to get the fruit nice and warm so the coconut manna melts into the fruit sauces, and goes into the parfait this way.

Once everything is nice and warm and soft, let the fruit cool before layering into mason jars, alternating between the yogurt mix and the fruit with layers of banana between. If you’d like to add oats you may layer them here as well.

I serve in mason jars, because they are perfect to see the beauty and color of the parfait.

Top with a sprinkle of coconut and cinnamon, and a bit of the fruit.

Place covered in the fridge to cool for at least 30 minutes as the chia needs time to soften. Eat within four days.

Enjoy for breakfast, dessert, or a fabulous energizing midday snack. The kids will love it too!
