I’m Kala Brown a blessed, but very messy Mama! I am desperate to help others know they are not alone in this journey of life. I am a crazy Mama of 5 who has battled depression, anxiety, anger & rage. A foster/adoptive Mama who is still trying to figure out how to walk the journey of raising a child with severe trauma. I have recently walked away from a profession I was in for 15 years for no other reason than GOD! I live on Jesus, coffee, energize & chaos! I pray that God will use me as a vessel to bring encouragement, hope & a big dose of faith as I share my struggles & victories!!
I pray you will be encouraged today as I share a few things that have touched my soul from the book Cultivate By Lara Casey.
If you are touched, inspired, encouraged or motivated by an episode that you listen to, please share it! You never know who else just might need it as well!
MUCH LOVE xoxo

80% of the results you are looking for come down to your nutrition. Yes, I know it is hard, but we can do hard things. I struggled with having a healthy nutritional mindset for many years. Under-eating - Over exercising - Poor self image - Struggles with the number on the scale etc. were a few of my toxic traits when it came to health, but I am here today to tell you that there indeed is FREEDOM in not only loving yourself for who God created you to be, but that there is also freedom in a healthy relationship with food!
There are many things that have helped me combat those poor habits & one of those is learning to have a plan, being prepared & diving in to learning how to meal prep!
Here are 3 of my Simple Meal Prep Tips! ENJOY & remember... You, my friend are worthy of being taken care of!

The New Year comes at a time of year when feelings of anxiety, depression and other mental health struggles are at an all time high. This increase is often due to the colder weather, ebbs and flows of the holiday seasons, lack of daylight hours and triggers of loss and grief.
Sure many are looking at the start of a New Year as a way to improve and recommit to their goals and resolutions, but that is not the case for everyone.
Research show that only 16% of those who come in to the New Year setting big goals and resolutions actually succeed.
Want to know what happens?
Because many are not seeing immediate success the feelings of inadequacy, doubt, lack of self confidence and excuses flow causing mental health to decline. Everything in life starts with in our minds. What we feed it (positive or negative) grows.
I want to challenge you with something. Instead of worrying about setting big goals and resolutions to "fit it" with the culture, start with working on your mental health and mindset FIRST! Our mental health is essential because it drives how we think, how we act and how we grow. Once we start with the inside work than the outside work (the big goals we are usually focused on at the first of the year) will follow!
Tune in today to hear some of my practical and easy Mental Health tips to starting the New Year off right! As always, share this with a friend!

This is the time of year where we are hearing about goals, vision casting & dreaming big and although there is nothing wrong with that, I know for some people this can lead to feelings of overwhelm and inadequacy.
More than likely you fall in to 1 of 2 categories...
Become inspired - Take action - Create your own system of goal setting
Compare yourself - Feel paralyzed - Take very little or no action
Today I am talking to those of you who fall in to category 2. Why? Because you are me!
Join me as we discuss why goal setting can be hard and how we can potentially make that easier leading so small step and action!

Have you ever considered "BUSY " as being a distraction or a means for Satan to do his job?
We live in a world of constant distraction. Streams of social media, to-do lists, busy schedules, phone calls... All. Day. Long.
These interruptions make it so easy for our brains to get off track and we then perform less than our best. Can I get an AMEN?
I don't know about you, but I want so desperately want to be kingdom driven in life and I am finding day by day as God has me in the quiet that the "BUSY" that so many of us strive to achieve is not all it's cracked up to be.
God made us all for a very specific purpose, but we won't ever get to that purpose if we can't let go of "BUSY" and the badge that it gives and realize that the Supernatural power of God is all we need and that He has us right where he wants us. Are you willing to see it? Are you willing to let go of the "BUSY' to get MORE? MORE of what God has for you?
Right around the corner of the struggle we are facing, there is a better and greater version of ourselves. In order to find that version we must first identify what type of person is in the driver seat of our life. Are we the.... Watcher? The Wisher? The Worker? Once we identify who or what is driving us, we then have to dig deep in to our Savior, seek Him, turn the blinker & make the right move.
It will be uncomfortable. It will be hard. It will be messy. BUT it will also be beautiful!
Today as I sat reading my Bible, God spoke to me differently through a very familiar verse. A verse I have read many times before.
Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day passed.
WOW! Take a deep breath right there and say "Thank you JESUS!" I just recently got back from a trip and God has reminded me that there is nothing going on in this season of life that He hasn't already planned or seen. God knew I'd be right where I am today. Nothing happening is a surprise to Him.
Through my time with Him this morning God spoke lots of encouragement over me & I want to share that same encouragement with you today.
Your yesterday... Your today... Your tomorrow is already penned in the loving hands of our Father. You are not just a number in His eyes, but one that is incredibly unique & designed with a special purpose. Walk boldly today knowing that is is HIM that holds it all.
Worthiness is in our DNA!!! Praise God!
Jesus died for us
Jesus loves us unconditionally
Jesus has plans for us to prosper
The only thing that hold us back from believing and stepping in to what God says about us is our own selves. Now is the time to take ACTION!!
Becoming a person who sees yourself as worthy is not easy. It takes practice. It takes hard work. It takes daily intentionality.
Depression, anxiety, patterns of negative self talk, becoming overweight, etc. does not happen over night. Extend yourself grace because re-wiring your brain and changing these patterns in to positivity will not happen overnight either.
2 practical techniques I have practiced over and over this week are:
2.PHONE A FRIEND
Take a quick listen to today's episode as I explain how and why I used these 2 techniques.
This is the question my therapist asked me this week... "Do you believe you are worthy?" As a Christian I feel this is a hard question for many reasons. Yes, I know that I am because of the blood of Jesus Christ, but due past moments of trauma the voice of "worthlessness" has crippled me. It is a daily battle I work to understand and overcome.
I want you to know today that if you too struggle with these feelings it is okay to sit in these feelings. In fact, we have to in order to move forward. We have to learn to trust ourselves enough to give ourselves credit, where credit is due and to recognize the lies "worthlessness" feeds us.
I am officially on a journey of working to overcome this awful feeling. I pray that if this is something you too battle with that you will know that not only are you not alone, but that I see you. I commit to sharing over the next few weeks what all God is revealing to me during this season and I pray that He will use me to speak to you as well.
Stepping out in to something that is not the "norm" is uncomfortable, it is hard. I lived "norm" for years & it was not working for me. In fact, I just continued to spiral deeper and deeper in to darkness. I was scared of what others would think if I admitted that I needed help, that I couldn't handle the busy, that I didn't have it together. I hit complete rock bottom before I ever truly saw not only the depths of my pain, but help & a change were needed & that I indeed was worth taking action for and fighting for.
Friend, I get the "busy." I get the pain of being hostage to the scale, calories, hours of exercise. I get the desire of feeling there is more, but not knowing what step to take and I also know the feeling of true darkness.
This morning I had an eye opening moment. A flash back of who I was 5 years ago and who I am not becoming because I was finally willing to stop out of the "norm" for myself, for my health and for my family. Stop holding yourself hostage out of fear of what others will say. Step out in the messy, the unknown & fight for your life!
I am entering a monumental year 4-0, 40 the older I am becoming the more I find myself reflecting back on things I "wish" I could have or even would have grasped on to at a younger age. Yes, I am sure I had plenty of people who warned me or even tried to do the same thing I am hoping to do here, but I didn't grasp on it. Some things caused a lot of heartache, while other things I found joy in!
I know that our past does not define who we are. In fact, I am learning that our past is what molds us, shapes us & grows us. Our past is part of the story God has given us to share! Enjoy this series!
Believe it or not we are our biggest barrier to finding success in life. Quitting typically feels easier, but I will tell you that it is always too soon to quit. God gives us the opportunity to have a fresh start in Him, daily. This Fresh start is also for other areas in life... Relationships. Health. Finances. We will never start though until we can move past our excuses and see God for who He is and What He can do. Trust me, I am speaking to myself as well and know I will be needing to hear this episode over and over.
40+ million people suffer with some form of anxiety, panic or anxious thoughts. 40 million, which means although we feel alone in those moments of struggle we indeed are NOT alone. I am not an expert in any field of mental health, but I have lived a life of mental health struggles so I know just how you feel in those moments of weakness. Today I will be sharing a few of my practical tips and tricks that are currently helping me manage my anxiety. If this episodes touches your heart in any way please share it!
I would love for you to follow me on IG at @kala_brown08
Ps. I discuss my first encounter with anxiety in this episode and I want to make a correction. My first encounter occurred at the City Museum in St. Louis, MO not the Children's Museum.
Genesis 1:31 "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed." "ALL" did you see that? All includes mankind. All includes you and includes me. Have you ever spent hours looking in a mirror picking yourself apart? If so, I want to offer you a sense of hope and peace that God gave to me today as I read a very familiar verse and grasped on to the meaning of it in a very special way.
Have you ever tried making some hard decisions in life, but found yourself doubting because you were not given the big bright flashing sign from God? If so, know that this is me too, however I am finding more and more that those "Big Flashy Signs" are not where we are typically going to find these things, but in the small moments around us.
Dreams, visions and resolutions are 3 words that have not come easily to me. Join me today as I give you not only a glimpse in to some of my story, but also in to what I feel God calls us to do... DREAM!
What if we woke up each day with intention? What if we woke up begging God to make out to do list for Him & not for ourselves. What if?
