Welcome to Coal and Salt! This is going to be as personal as it gets in terms of everything that I do. But again, who am I? Hi! I am Farhid! And these are going to be my mindless ramblings from the perspective of a time traveler. Interesting right? I hope all this interest stays till the very end and till then, Yours, Forever, Farhid
There was someone before Amrita. Sahir's world was not always grey, it had a love that was reciprocated but then something else came in between them. Yaksui was written for her.
.
Notes and anecdotes for this episode are inspired by Akshay Manwani who wrote the book, "Sahir Ludhianvi: The Peoples Poet". Which he undoubtedly, was, is and always will be.
.
The notes and anecdots, the music, the poems, I own nothing about them, in pieces or entirety. All I own, is the sky.
Somethings should never be repeated again. For example, Umeed ka khat.
That was an original masterpiece by itself and still remains so. To be honest, I do not think so that I will ever be able to top that one up. But then my midnight musings brought me over here.

To note, this is a "nazm" written when a lover moves on, when the relation is dead, when there is supposed to be no contact, when the shayar becomes a human.
.
It is also said that when Sahir sah'b got to know about Imroz, that is when he wrote this hauntingly beautiful masterpiece.

The iconic Rakhee, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor came together with Khayyam, Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar to bring Sahir's words to life.

Here is my attempt at it.

There are few who have written about the moon as beautifully as Ibn-e-Insha has. Lucky Ali immortalizes love in his own style, which stays with you forever. Be it with his voice or the music
All we have to do now, is sit in awe of the geniuses of our generation.
"Uss Aangan ka Chaand" by Ibn-e-Insha with Gori Teri Aankhein as the BGM by Lucky Ali from the Unacademy Unwind sessions.
Art of Reading!! Welcome!!
Back to back episodes of AoR are very very beautiful for me. Freshens up the mind, as well as gives me new pieces to write and read!
Enjoy!
P.S. End tak sun'na :)
Been a while to this!
Sahir sah'b decided to make a comeback, but this time, not in my dreams. I got some new recording gear and I was utterly scared to use them. Maybe, I was scared to make mistakes.
Sahir sah'b casually helped me record this, making sure I know my mistakes on the way as I recorded this. This is to him!
Barely any sound (Read: Noise) was removed from the podcast. I am still getting used to the mic and the interface and it shall be fun! Let's see how and where do I reach from here!
Till then
yours forever,
Farhid :)
Another sleepless night, another day of blank spaces. But, CP will always have my heart.

Why did Faiz sah'b write Naqsh-e-Fariyaadi?
A rare interview between Faiz Sah'b and Amrita Pritam ji.
Written by Faiz sah'b, narrated and given life by Zia sah'b.
Use it as a sleep cast, use it when you are traveling in the metro, use it when you want to listen to a bored and zoned out Farhid. Use it to sleep, use it to entertain yourself. Maybe I might to get to know and hear something that I should have a long time ago.
Till then, Yours forever,
Farhid :)
Sleep has started to evade me once again.

The story finishes.
This episode features music from Ustab Abdul Latif Khan who is playing Raag Bhairavi on the Sarangi and "Kesariya Balam" by the band Agnya.
Ek acha episode wo hota hai jo khud ki hi enlightenment kar de. Pre-writing and post-writing. Dono phases me.
This was that for me.
An year ago I had written about how the heart breaks, and I guess wo conversation beech me reh gayi thi. Is baar, use continue karte hai. Background music is "She Remembers" by Max Richter, used in all fairness.
There have been nights where I have not been able to sleep because of my dreams. This is a very very small introduction to the good in them. I haven't taken her name, but yes, Shweta is in all of them.
The background music is Cold by Jorge Mendez. In no parts or whole, do I own the music. All i own, is the sky
Revisited a couple of old friends and emotions in the past week but met my oldest of them all. Tanhai.
The hurt cycle is basically how we humans project hurt in our own personal past and present on to others. This is not a means for interpretation or replacement for therapy or a counsellor but to be used as generally as possible.
For the uninitiated, I have a bachelors degree in Medicine and a masters in healthcare and have a notable number of hours of observership with therapists and counsellors.
.
Happy healing! The background track is "There were many things for we exist" by NOWT.
.
I hold no right to use over the music used in the podcast and it has been used with all fair intentions. All I own, is the sky.
Kuch cheezein hai in general that keep me busy, love remains one of them. Forever will.
Now that the basic premise has been set into place, let us begin with the story. Wait, you thought the story has started already? Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on how closely you are treating it as. The closer, the merrier.
Welcome, to Farhidnama.
Farhidnama is full of travels, love and the trials and tribulations of the road.
You all wanted to hear Farhid and Shweta, Ishq aur husn, adab aur bagawat.
This is it.
With the multitude of singers who have sung it, this was not easy. I am still coming to terms with the sher "Ab tak Dil-e-Khushfeham ko tujh se hain umeedein, Ye aakhri shammein bhi bujhaane ke liye aa"
But I guess ab na umeed rahi hai aur na hi yakeen, na wo aaye the aur na wo aaenge.

Pria Sarin singing "Ranjish hi sahi", originally written by Ahmed Faraz Sah'b and then sung by Iqbal Bano, Mehdi Hassan, Ali Sethi, Papon, Asha Bhosle and who not.
Gali me us raat chaand nikla tha. Mai ghoomte hue na jaane ek aise mod pe aa gaya jahaan mujhechaand aur tum, dono dikh gaye. Phir uske baad meri mubarakbaad hi hui! Raat bhar Eid ka jashn bana aur maine sar uske sajde me jhuka ke, sirf, uske ishq ke aansu bahaaye. Us raat ke liye, shukriya <3
.
.
Pria, I should be thanking you more for this.

"Gali me aaj chaand nikla" from the movie Zakhm, sung originally by Alka Yagnik ji, written by Naqash Haider.
Hawaaein is the prelude to Farhidnama. It's a prelude to everything that we tend to...

Imagine Elia is sitting by a fireplace after receiving the letter from Fareha where she asks him to give away her letters, burn her letters. Jaun is talking to friend with a friend with all the pain in his heart and absolutely nothing, but pain.

Tehzeeb Hafi sah'b is changing poetry as we know and I am glad to have been born in the same era as him. Here is The Art of Reading going all about Tehzeeb Hafi. Cheers!
This is probably the smallest glimpse of what lives outside the walls of "Farhid". This also serves as a reminder to myself as to what am I made of and why am I this way. To everyone who has been listening to me, I think it is time to make this personal, I think it is time I start writing those letters that i never intended to post.
Love,
Farhid
Wishful thinking pro max to be honest,
to be honest, I wish the same
"Chal aa ek aisi nazm kahu, jo lafz kahu wo ho jaaye,
Mai ishq likhu, tujhe ho jaaye"
This song in also in the film 'Andaz' (1949), composed by Naushaad. This ghazal has been recited by yours truly, on spotify.
Kuch badiya sa caption aaya tha dimaag me, lekin bhool gaya. That there is a difference between knowing when to fight adn when to drop a towel, likewise, there is a difference in knowing when to take the blame and when not to.
A very brief talk into what is one of the most beautiful love stories of modern day India. The story that set down standards for #IshqAurHusn.
The Art of Reading is dedicated to specific poets and writers and their works. This time, after a long time I did not hold anything back and went ahead with any and everything that I could find on Rekhta. Basically something that I do, but a little more streamlined. The video is on my Instagram account (@coalandsalt) and it would be lovely if you could check that out as well. Basically, this is a sleepcast, while I try to battle my insomnia away, here is something for you, to sleep to.
Till then, and forever,
Yours,
Farhid :)
Suna hai tumhara dil toot gaya? Acha?
Chalo ye chota sa ek kh'yal sun lo, kya pata kuch samajh aane lage?
Bulleh Shah wrote something which happens post death, On the day of Judgement, Yawm ad-Din, you will be measured only by your deeds and nothing else. Your creed, caste, profession will all be finished over here but you will only take your actions along with you.
A meek attempt at delivering the meaning of the song that i hold close to my heart. 2 renditions that i hold close to my heart,
Khair, agli baar ke liye, Tumhara, hamesha,
Farhid
Some things are held by fate and most of my letters are too. This, is one of them. Khair, suniye aur sunaiye.
I contracted COVID but i wanted to pen this down and bring this letter out. Why? Ziddi hu bas, aur kuch khaas nahi.
Something to sleep to. If you are driving or operating heavy machinery, please do not listen to this. Listen to it only when you are in a safe environment,
Amaltas and Shveta go hand in hand and to be honest, they are the same side of a coin, while I am on the other side. All the tracks that have been used in this podcast apart from my own are not my own, but everyone who has made them.
Khair, Part 2,3 and 4. Soon :)
Dagh Dehlvi changed a lot of things in Urdu poetry. He brought down the use of Persian words and made his work simple to read and use. “2 sha’bd” contains lines from a sher and a ghazal. In silence, I hope you can come closer to Dagh and the essence behind the man with “2 sha’bd”
From the huge barrage of letters I have written, is another one. They are in no sequence whatsoever but they are as simple and pure as they can be.
Khair, I hope you enjoy this one and you can always find more of my work and me at www.instagram.com/coalandsalt
There have been times when i have unnecessarily pondered over a lot of questions, but to a lot of them, I just let them be. The question of how would things be if not like this has always on the top. But the biggest questions remains, if and when the moment comes, where would we meet, how would we meet, when would we meet and the most scariest of them all, why would we meet? This story might take you a little more into the story that would happen before it, but then as a lot of things are left unsaid, this is one of them.
The description of a relationship, full of trials and tribulations that a lover endures which is very beautifully penned by Mohsin Naqvi (1947-1996). Some verses out of his ever beautiful Ghazal "Agarche main ek chatan sa aadmi raha hun"
Hi! Generally this description will never be in sync with whatever is uploaded but nevertheless, it is always good tor read through it :)
