Our first podcast episode is the first of a two-part series where we talk to David Murphy, the Assistant Data Protection Commissioner at the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC).
In this first part of the interview, David talks about the DPC's regulatory strategy for the next five years, which was published earlier this year.
He firstly talks about the progress Ireland and Europe have made over the four-year lifespan of the GDPR. Then, he outlines four key areas that he found relevant to current issues of data protection and how the DPC plan to approach these areas going forward, over the next five years.
He then talks about the DPC's emphasis on the protection of data for vulnerable groups in society and in particular for children. This is a key topic of focus for the DPC's five year strategy.
This concludes part 1 of the 2 part series with the Assistant Commissioner.
In part 2, we discuss data protection for small to mediums sized enterprises. What they need to focus on to ensure compliance with the data protection regulatory frameworks and where they can get support going forward.
Finally we discuss, where we stand now in terms of the COVID 19 pandemic and the collection of specific health information for that purpose.
