I am Julie Balderrama, the Lazy Dream Witch and Headmaster at The Embodied Dream Academy. I believe we all have the potential for living a magical life, if we approach it with curiosity and a willingness to cooperate with the Universe. And I've found that Dreamwork is the foundational language that increases the efficacy of all other magic. In this podcast, we weave together a living relationship with dreams and magic.The podcast is released in groupings of three, that take you on a journey with other Dreamers and Magicians through the depths of the unconscious. Together, we’ll explore how engaging with dreams changes consciousness.We start each adventure with a Dreamer - someone willing to let us borrow their dream. We weave our way into their dream, finding openings and ahas, then back out again to the "rhymes" in Waking Life - what sounds familiar?Next, we tap into the Collective Consciousness by sharing the dream with another expert Magician and asking them, "If this were your dream, how would you engage with it?" Finally we land again with the Dreamer to see what new magic unfolded since they dreamed the dream. Mahlakai Rose, from The House of Grief, and I dive back into Amanda's dream to explore what the "Shadow Ninjas" are all about and to unearth the magic that lies in grieving our past selves and past relationships.
Mahlakai is a grief and death expert, a "Living Death Doula." They are passionate about pushing the death doula movement out even further to help folks cope with the tons of micro-losses and deaths that happen in our lives everyday as a way to fully inhabit our lives.

Amanda's dream features a common dream symbol - an ex-partner. In my experience with my own and clients' dreams, I've found that exes tend to show up when we're going through some kind of a transition.
We can get caught up in the personality of our ex-partners showing up in the dream, believing the message to be about the ex-partner. But when we zoom out a bit from the personal point of view and see the ex-partner as a character or archetype, often we find a rich and potent message that just might help us navigate the transition with magic.

Drew originally brought us a recurring dream from her past. As we'll see in this follow up, though, dreams don't have an expiration date! They continue to bring us offerings and wisdom that are just as relevant each time we revisit them.
We certainly found that to be the case with Drew. She's going through another life transition and the theme is still about Awakening to her True Self. By revisiting the dream with me in our first session, Drew called in more transformation in her life. This time, she recognizes that her dreams bring her an important message: You can trust yourself. You can trust your perceptions of what is true for you.

Because Drew's Dream (episode 10) had a plethora of snakes in it (a common, if often disturbing symbol in dreams), I reached out to Magical Expert Kyndyll Lackey.
Kyndyll is an expert in Kabbalah and the Tarot - a system of rich symbology to help us understand life's journey as it unfolds. She's also a devotee of the Goddess Babylon.
Kyndyll and I chat about one prevalent understanding of snakes in a dream is that they symbolize transformation. But what does that mean? And specifically what could that mean for Drew?
We dive into all the rich layers of transformation and snakes - from the iconography of the Catholic church to how snakes show up in Tarot and Kabbalah. We also discuss what reality is, duality and non-duality, and the relationship between the Ego and the Higher Self.

I follow up with Mars and the unfolding of their dream and we go into more depth around the sometimes violative nature of trauma and how moments of enlightenment or awakening can feel similarly intrusive and violent.
Four months after we first discuss Mars' dream (Episode 7), they experience an entirely new relationship with the trauma that seemed to be speaking to them in the dream. This episode is a beautifully exploration of the expansive nature of honoring both the Divine within us and the human sensations and feelings.

In this episode, I reached out to Sary as my Magical Expert to dig a little deeper into Mars' dream (episode 7). Sary is a sovereignty coach who helps humans embody awe by walking the primal path to awakening.
In our experience of Mars' dream, Sary and I play with what it feels like - what's the embodied experience - of awakening. As Mars' dream suggests, it isn't always a pleasant feeling, nor one we can easily categorize. It can be terrifying and exhilarating all at once. And it can definitely leave one on shaky and unstable ground.
So how do we navigate this marriage between our divine selves and human selves? The part of us crumbling and birthing at the same time?
