Learning to be thankful amidst the difficulties we face in our world is the key to unlocking the supernaturally energized mind that God has called us to have.
This is the final message in a five-part series called, Purifying the Heart. In 1 Corinthians 10:10, Paul says that we must not "grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer." There are many examples of grumbling in the Old Testament, but the example Paul is specifically referring to is Korah's rebellion.
Our relationship with Jesus begins when we surrender to His Lordship. We then go on a journey of learning to trust Him, forsaking our temptation to complain and blame the Lord for our difficulties, and learning to follow the leaders that God puts into our lives through our local church.
This is part four of a five part series called Purifying the Heart. In 1 Corinthians 10:9, Paul says, "We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents." He was referring to a story from Numbers 21, and referencing a temptation that even Jesus had to deal with during His trial against the enemy in the Wilderness.

We live in a sex-saturated culture, but God has called us to reject the world's attitude toward sex and instead submit to God's standard of sexual purity. Here's how to find the way of escape from sexual sin.
Idolatry is at the root of all sin. This is one of the most important truths for us in our journey toward sanctification. If we can discern the idol behind the sin, then we can dethrone the idol, and enthrone Jesus - the only one who can meet the deepest needs of the soul.
Gratitude is a more powerful force than we might realise in our lives. If you want to live free from anxiety, and more importantly, bring honour to God, learn how to live a thankful life.
When we trust in Christ, God declares us righteous. But we're not instantly made perfect in our thoughts, motives, and action. Then begins the process of purifying the heart. The reward - the pure in heart will see God.
Jesus showed up at a multi-day wedding feast with no plans to perform any miracles. He left having brought an immense amount of joy to a covenantal celebration, and in the process, He revealed His glory through a prophetic picture of His death, burial, and resurrection.
The Father desires to give the Holy Spirit to all of His children, but He will never force Himself upon us. He pours out His Spirit freely upon those who strongly desire Him; who ask. We experience a baptism in the Holy Spirit both for spiritual power to live courageously, and also because in the challenges and difficulties of our pursuit of Jesus and His will, we will regularly find ourselves in need of refreshing in His presence.
Genesis 16:13
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now sees the One who sees me.”
In Psalm 127, we see Solomon's Song of Ascent in which he shares some of his most significant life wisdom. He teaches us that all human effort is wasted unless God is working behind the scenes, that our trust in God is most clearly revealed in our ability to rest, and that our most important legacy is our children - both natural and spiritual.
We tend to have in our minds the best-case scenario of how life is going to play out. But many of God’s greatest promises are only fulfilled after we’ve patiently waited, persevered in faith, and refused to give up.
Hebrews 6:10–15 (ESV)
10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.
In John 10, Jesus said, "I lay down my life that I may take it up again... I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again.
Others were raised from the dead before Jesus, but none of them had authority in death to take up their own life. And all of them were raised, only to die again. Jesus was different. He had authority to take up his own life, and He was raised to eternal life. We can share in His eternal life, but we must first lay down our lives for Him.
In Psalm 69, David declares to the Lord, "zeal for your house has consumed me." The disciples remembered this verse when Jesus cleared the money-changers from the temple.
Peter calls the people of God (those in His household) to "keep loving one another earnestly," and to use their gifts to "serve one another, as good stewards."
Do you have a zeal for God's house?
Every follower of Jesus is called to lose their life, not only for Jesus, but for the cause of his message - the gospel (Mark 8:35). The Church must take up this call to preach the gospel and make disciples as its greatest purpose before the nations can be reached and the Kingdom of God triumph throughout the earth - a victory we should expect before the return of Christ (Matthew 24:14). As we do our part to intentionally make disciples and advance God's Kingdom, Jesus will do His part to build each local church as a bi-product of His mission. It's time to stop trying to build the church through volunteers at events and start advancing God's Kingdom by making disciples.
Every human heart is prone to believing things that are not true. Our pursuit of Christ is largely about learning how to guard our hearts from believing lies. While Satan is the father of lies and seeks to deceive us, the writers of the New Testament seem to challenge us more to avoid self-deception.
Here are five ways we might be self-deceived, and how a heart of humility and dependence upon God can help us to faithfully guard our hearts.
There’s a big difference between character and reputation. Reputation is who people think we are. Character is who we really are when no one else is looking. When we walk in integrity - "in the light" - character and reputation are closely aligned.
This life of integrity flows out of our abiding in Christ, of whom Paul speaks in Philippians 2. The one virtue above all others that Paul wants the church to display is humility. He says we are to humble ourselves in the way that Jesus humbled himself.
To have clear vision, we must walk in the light. When we walk in the light, we can be healed and cleansed from the negative effects upon our soul of sins we once kept hidden.
It is often in our darkest and most painful seasons that God works most deeply in our hearts: teaching us the fear of the Lord, provoking in us a truer humility, comforting us in our grief, and preparing our hearts to steward His wonderful promises.

In Luke 13, Jesus references two current events to challenge people to take their eyes off of the sins of others and instead consider the sin lurking in their own hearts. The truth of who we are is found in "the mirror" of the Word.
Only two things will matter in eternity. We each need a clarity of perspective that will empower us to live for those two things today.

This week Ps Jason brings a word from the story of the wise men from the East, or as the NIV calls them, the Magi. Who were these wise men? How did they know to come looking for a King? What's up with this star they followed? The answers are all in the Old Testament, and carry significant implications for how we, 2000 years later, respond to the birth of the promised King.
Paul teaches us that God's covenant promises to Abraham come to ultimate fulfillment in Christ, and as heirs of those covenant promises, we have access to these rich blessings and promises. These promises make way for us individually and as a church family to grow in influence as we grow closer to Jesus.

Go after the one thing - deeper devotion and intimacy with Jesus.
On our second Miracle Sunday, Ps Jason preached a message from Jesus' feeding of the 5000. This miracle of multiplication was made possible by the offering of a young boy. Jesus is never limited by the size of our offering, but He does demand our best. And as we see at the end of the story, our offering, plus God's miracle, equals abundance.
On our first Miracle Sunday, Martin Smoothy brought a phenomenal word on the power that's released through our giving.
Both Solomon and James give us strong exhortations to understand and harness the power of the tongue. Our words are much more powerful than we often realise, having the capacity to bless and to curse. In this message, Ps Jason teaches us how to combine our words with God's word to release faith and make God’s will a reality here on earth.
In 2 Corinthians 4:7-18, Paul says, "Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak."
What is the spirit of faith? Where else do we see it in Scripture? How do we get it? And what does it sound like?
Most people give up in the final battle just before their breakthrough comes. The spirit of faith will not only help you endure difficulty, but it will lead you into God's prophetic promises over your life and over our church.
David prayed in Psalm 86:11, "Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name." In Ezekiel 11:19, God says, "I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh."
How do we live with an undivided heart like David prayed? The answers are found in Ezekiel.

God wants us to love the Church as He loves the Church. Before we can truly love the Church, we must see the Church that Jesus sees. Here are four revelations of the church that are crucial for every Christian to see:
- The Church as the Ecclesia
- The Church as the Body of Christ
- The Church as the Bride of Christ
- The Church as the New Jerusalem

The young captives taken into Babylon show us how to live in Kingdom Identity amidst great opposition.
Psalm 103:1-19
Three times in this passage David refers to “those who fear Him,” and each time we see an accompanying blessing or benefit of walking in the fear of the Lord.
The Father longs to unleash the resurrection power of Jesus upon the world, but He has chosen to only do so through a people who fervently believe that Jesus is alive. If we truly believe He rose, that revelation will deeply change us.
Special guest Ps Sam Dix, from Disciple House Church, preached a powerful message on the primacy of guarding the heart, because as Proverbs 4:23 teaches, "everything you do flows from it."
Our identity determines our destiny. Paul makes this very clear in Ephesians 4:17-24. To stop living like the world and represent Jesus properly in this world we must put off the old self and put on the new self. But how does this identity shift come?
The fulfillment of prophetic words does not come to the spiritually passive, but to those who fervently pray and contend for what God has promised.

In Proverbs, Solomon seeks to impart wisdom by repeatedly contrasting the wise person with the fool. The fool has several different names through the Proverbs, each shedding light on a different aspect of living wisely.
Thomas McDonald is the Youth Pastor at the NEUMA Melbourne City location. "Digging Wells" is a powerful prophetic message for the city of Perth, and for our church.
Christmas teaches us that nothing is impossible with God. Our relationship with God begins after we believe that miracles are possible, and our relationship with God grows as He leads us into a conviction that miracles are normal.
As we approach the season when we celebrate Immanuel (God With Us), it's helpful to know who this God is and how we are to approach Him.
In Luke 17:11-19, only one of the ten lepers came back to give praise to God and thanks to Jesus for his miracle healing.
Worship is a weapon that confuses our enemy.

God's greatest competitor for the affection of our hearts is money. Jesus said we can't love both God and money. Here's how to get money off the throne of your heart and give Jesus His rightful place. He's the only one that can meet the deepest needs of the soul.

Our words are more powerful than we often realise. God expects us to understand the power of the tongue and to use our words to bring about His good purpose, both in our lives and in our world.

When we see Him for who He is, we can not help but give Him the praise and adoration that He deserves.
Not only is faith in the resurrection the most rational outcome of reading the gospels, but the fact that Jesus rose from the dead has profound implications for how we approach a relationship with God and how we live our daily lives.
