Got Funk?

Not the amazing, Kool & the Gang kind of funk....

But that unmotivated, not doing the things you want to do, and not taking action to reach your goals kind of funk.

Because....yeah - same here.

Sometimes it's just a little blip on the radar. But if you're finding that you're stuck in this place for waaaay too long, then this episode is for you.

Friendly disclaimer: this is NOT my typical podcast episode. It's literally a conversation together where I'm walking my dog Onyx. Meaning, it's totally off the cuff, unscripted, and with audio that's, well, us having a conversation via headphones. So do with that as you may. ;)

Here's the thing - when we have goals that are important to us, but find ourselves in a funk, it's not great. It feels bad (of course), AND it doesn't get us to where we want to be in life. So this episode is all about what to do if you find yourself here. Because, that, my friend, is exactly where I was. And I'm proof positive that these tools work.

BOOM! Let's dive in....

In This Episode You Will Learn

  • The problem with being in a funk & unmotivated (2:20)
  • Getting stuck in a funk long-term (because time moves faster than we realize) (4:55)
  • The re-examination and getting to the root of what's going on(6:00)
  • The beauty of responsibility (8:13)
  • What to do if you save yourself for last (9:58)
  • Meeting your own needs to get out of a funk (11:39)
  • Pushing the easy button with the stories we tell ourselves (15:07)
  • Baby stepping your way out of the funk (17:22)

We're winding down 2020 and getting ready to welcome 2021!

Usually I made one New Year's Resolution.

But seeing as how 2020 was a different kind of year, I've decided to go with something a little different.

This may seem a little strange, but my idea was inspired by the time that I became a bestselling author. Let me tell you, that experience wasn't exactly what I'd anticipated.

Listen in and enjoy!

Did you accomplish everything you wanted to do last year? Goodness knows I didn't!

When that happens, it can be easy to get down on ourselves. But the problem with that (besides it feeling crappy), is that it zaps our motivation and makes it harder to make progress in the future.

The good news is, there's a way to look back at what happened, without beating ourselves up.

In today's episode, I'm going to share a technique we use in the Army to assess how things went, so we can do better in the future.

AND, I talk about what to do when you're feeling discouraged about not reaching the goals you set for yourself.

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • The thing we shouldn’t discount when assessing our accomplishments (6:35)
  • The thing that really matters when we’re working toward our goals (8:12)
  • What to do when you realize your goals were unrealistic (9:14)
  • Looking at what went right (12:29)
  • Tools and resources to help you plan your next year (15:39)

Welcome to The Jewell Show! I am your host, Jewell Siebert and I want this podcast to be like grabbing coffee with a friend – full of great advice and stories. I will share my personal stories and bring on fantastic guests to discuss the everyday things we can do to help us be the person we want to be.

Everyone can relate to having feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. Goodnes, I even had a moment of self-doubt when I sat down to record this first episode. The point isn’t to focus on getting rid of the self-doubt and insecurities, but to learn how to navigate through them. How we make our choices every day can help us in learning to navigate these feelings and take the steering wheel from insecurity.

And in doing so, you create the space to live a life that honors your soul, and makes you happy to get out of bed in the morning.

In this first episode, I tell you what The Jewell Show will be about, my background, my life-changing moment that motivated me to start over from scratch, and a tool that I swear by to help keep me focused on making the most of my time every day.

Listen in and enjoy!

  • The most important thing to know about me (5:42)
  • How I realized I was only happy-ish in my career in the Army (7:28)
