"'Korean Traditional Dance #2"
by Chicago Korean Dance Company
http://www.chicagokoreandance.org
~
ABOUT:
The Korean Culture Festival was a 4 hour event co-hosted by the Korean American Association of Minnesota and the Consulate General of Chicago celebrating Korean art, dance and culture in the Huntington National Bank Rotunda, Mall of America in Bloomington, MN November 6th, 2022.
This event aimed to share the "Hallyu" fever, which is trending worldwide, with the next generation of Korean compatriots and locals. It was held to promote their pride, identity, and the great Korean culture to non-Koreans. Around 1,000 guests experienced the power and pride of our Korean Culture.
There were many nationally recognized groups, performers and student volunteers that participated in and supported this event. Thank you to the leaders and supporters of KAAM who have worked hard to make this event possible. The Mall of America sponsor team proposed continuous partnership with KAAM for any future annual cultural festivals. The event was a great success and KAAM will continue to share the excellence of Korean culture with people around the world.

Meet Dr. Byung Kuk Cho who was an amazing pediatrician and humanitarian who served orphans and adoptees post Korean War. This interview discusses and helps promote Dr. Cho's memoires of the horrors, and realities of war along with hope, willing serving others that brought change to orphans and adoptees. This interview also brings about the ever important discussion about the adoption politics amongst adoptees which became known as an industry and where we became the inevitable collateral of Korea's impoverished and war torn history. Whatever side you may find yourself on, this is an interview you do not want to miss and we hope to educate and bring knowledge about the inevitable situation.

This interview with Korean Adoptee, Sarah Clifton, was conducted by Kyle & Travis Balitz, during the summer of 2020 and was originally released through the Gide Foundation, which is now known as The Adoptee Group. The interview is now re-released through KADStories.com. Sarah, who resides in New Mexico came to visit us here in Minnesota. We believe this interview was so candidly informative and know many adoptees will relate to her struggles in relationships, abuse, self-harm, mental health and raising children. We also want to note here at KADStories, we aim to provide a safe and non-judgemental platform for adoptees to speak out and we ask our viewers to please respect other people's honest stories, opinions, and struggles. Currently Sarah has seemingly found a more healthier partner and has an improved relationship with her daughters, although admittedly still struggles. Perhaps someday we may do a follow up interview with her.

KADStories's Hosts Kyle & Travis had another opportunity to attend MN Kangnam Korean Baptist Church to celebrate Pastor Daniel's Birthday. This was part of sermon that we though was interesting as small upload. If adoptees are looking for a community to belong to Korean Church's are very welcoming to adoptees and a close-knit community and most of them offer lunch after the sermon! Happy Birthday Pastor Daniel!

BIOGRAPHY:
Lily Gal is a Korean Adoptee originally from Minnesota. She currently is undergoing her own transformation and healing being an adoptee. She is married and currently has 3 children. Lily Gal has also been introduced as guest host for KADStories.com and developed quite a bond with KADStories host Kyle & Travis and probably is our biggest fan! She had stated if we grew up in Korea we would be buddies. So after bonding at Pastor Park's event we had to bring her on to help share even a more wider perspective on anything KAD!

Meet Jayme Hansen. Mr. Hansen is a well known authority in the adoption sphere and has truly lived a life of a dozen men. Even though his childhood living in Minnesota was difficult including experiencing racism, bullying, and being adopted into a dysfunctional farming family he managed to overcome many challenges after joining the military. He was on active duty in Operation Desert Storm, and has worked his way up as a CFO of the U.S. Military. Jayme has also been an active leader and volunteer in many adoptee organizations such as 325Kamra, ICAV (Intercountry Adoptee Voices), and Adoption Trafficking for the Vance Twins. He also has multiple degrees under his belt including an MBA, Public Administration, Biology, Nursing, and Cooking. Currently his is a CFO at the Defense Health Agency and is happily married with two children. KADStories.com is incredibly proud to meet Jayme locally here in MN and were awestruck by his accomplishments despite the struggles as an adoptee. He really found a way to turn his pain into empowerment. This is an interview of a life time you don't want to miss!

Korean Adoptee Stories is so proud to introduce Erika Arnold a KAD that has struggled immensely with her adoptee trauma and addiction that lead to facing abuse, rapes, homelessness, overdose & suicidal ideations. She found herself struggling to survive even during Hurricane Katrina. It was than until 2014 that she chose to live a life of Sobriety as she realize there is no way to be a successful drug addict. We have learned so much through Erika. In fact the host Kyle speaks about someone he knew who struggled with a drug addiction and Erika provided great advice upon it. This video is so important! Kyle and Travis Balitz, hosts of KADStories were asked to help raise money for Morgen and Lonny Lindquist's daughter named TT (Tehillah), with a life threatening illness. She has been recently hospitalized for her failing kidney received from her father due to her diagnosis of a rare form of vasculitis which is an inflammation of the blood vessels. She is currently waiting for a new kidney donor which is a million dollar procedure. This started off as a balloon-o-gram for TT's Birthday and within a week we managed to raise $3,113! That is incredible!!! This is a MAJOR THANK YOU to everyone for their donations, thoughts, and prayers!!!
We created another fundraiser for TT that doesn't expire. So for those who want to donate and or missed the deadline you now can do so here!

Joe is a MN Korean Adoptee that has been through the ringer. He has struggled with the recent diagnosis of bipolar disorder and as adoptee adds an ever more complexity to his life. He has made mistakes and learned from them and has been over a year since he has rehabilitated from prison. In the past he had struggled with addiction and is trying to live a more positive, healthier and corrected lifestyle. Unfortunately to add on to his struggle Joe had lost his only daughter who was only 20 years old, last year which was a very painful life changing event for him. Recently he has had dental issues that has cost over $10,000 which was not covered by insurance. And for this Christmas we are asking if you can to please contribute a little gift towards Joe to help ease the burden. If you see this message and even if you can only give a dollar or 5, it will be most appreciated. The Let's Talk About It episode with Joe Briseno can be viewed at KADStories.com Thanks guys.

Sasha Frugone describes how she was able to overcome her tragic story of feeling worthless due to being thrown in a trash can that dictated much of her life by using a powerful tool called: "Reframing," which allowed her to re-narrate her life that served into a more compassionate stance for her birth family and most importantly for herself. Through healing her inner child she wants to help others to do the same and serve as a conspiracy for healing others.

Sasha Frugone describe one of the most powerful moments of her life when meeting with one of the most wisest person she ever known. Even if this woman did not have many material things, she taught Sasha the power of people's words depends on your own reactions to it and encouraged Sasha the next time someone says or does something upsetting to try to look deep inside the person upsetting you.

Hey everyone this video discusses our mental health journey, struggles, and strength as Korean Adoptees aiming to help others also be more transparent, open, and honest about their struggles. I do believe what can save lives is admitting the problem and most importantly speaking out about it especially those struggling with suicidal thoughts. I truly believe getting this truth out can serve as a relief to a pressure point, like a valve ready to burst. All in all, suicide and death is permanent. Your life matters and needs to be cherished as you really only got one life to live. There is nothing more important than cherishing your own life.

Korean Adoptee Stories is proud to present Korean Adoptee: Sean Lange, Father of Four who reached out to us wanting to have a chat with us about the affects of adoption and his relationships. Imagine growing up feeling different, alone and disconnected from everybody else and finally perhaps given that chance to solve that missing part of the puzzle that has left a mark on your existence. This experience affected Mr. Lange so much that he experienced a lot of emotion during this interview. We appreciate Mr. Lange's honesty and transparency that we know many other adoptees will relate to the experiences of growing up and living the life of an adoptee. Right now, after discovering this Korean Adoptee moment inside his soul he wants to help others come to terms with what it means to being Korean and an adoptee.

Korean Adoptee Stories is proud to present Patrick Armstrong. A handsome KAD with a passion for volunteering and rapping/writing that at 30 is in the admist of coming to accept his identity of being a Korean and an adoptee. We are trying to keep our episodes shorter than an hour long to keep viewership retention, along with reduced editing and production times, however there is a bit of regret that we did not have the time to go deeper. And to us, even though there was much more to say, was cut short. And that only means Patrick may have to show up and rap for us again in the future, talk about why he loves to volunteer, and his birth family search updates! We were listening in preparation to Pat's podcast before our interview and it goes in a bit more in-depth for people interested in listening to his story and was a very well done story. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
