Today's episode is an audio bible reading through the gospel of Mark chapter 3. This is a special series we do as we count down the days to Christmas!
Let's enjoy this audio bible reading together today where Jesus heals on the Sabbath testing the hearts of the Pharisees, and the news about His miracles spread far and wide. Large crowds begin to follow Jesus and He heals many and cast out demons. And Jesus chooses the twelve and commissions them as apostles, sent to preach and given the authority to cast out demons.
This gospel is the shortest of all New Testament gospels and is likely the first to have been written, yet it often tells of Jesus’ ministry in more detail than either Matthew or Luke.
Let's jump in, Merry Christmas!

Peter knows that his time on earth is coming to an end, and so he leaves the believers with important reminders that he tells that they will need to always remember. Peter shares about the Day of The Lord, the returning of Jesus Christ.
One of my most favorite scriptures Peter wrote in this letter, "The Lord isn't really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

In 2 Peter 1, Peter discloses that he knows the Lord Jesus Christ will soon be calling Him home. Listen to the last Words of Peter as we jump into his second letter. He encourages the believers to grow in grace and knowledge as they learn of God and their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Peter also addresses false prophets and the importance knowing the scriptures and what the prophets of old have spoken, for they were moved by the Holy Spirit and speaking from God.

As leaders in our church we aren't afraid to have the hard conversations because we know what it is to walk a crooked path and we know what it is to have a God who is greater and stronger, who walks with us. The new believers in Thessalonica are facing severe persecution from jews, gentiles and the Romans surrounding them for their faith in the One true King, Jesus Christ. Paul encourages them to stand fast in the truth that they first received in the middle of this chaos. At this time some deceivers were rising up and telling the new believers false things about Jesus' return stirring up fear and trouble. As you can imagine this could have easily shaken up any new believer. So Paul writes in care, concern and passion to correct the mistakes, bring clarity and comfort to the new believers. Paul also mentions the GREAT APOSTASY and teaches about why the deceivers were wrong about Jesus' return. The return of Christ is not a trouble for believers, but a wonderful hope and comfort. Paul's second letter is a response to the reports that the persecution against the Thessalonian believers has intensified. Paul thanks God for their endurance and faith in the face of suffering and reminds the believers that there is a day of rest for them and all believers. However, the ultimate suffering will be for those who deny Jesus, who will be separated from him eternally when Jesus returns with his might angels, in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don't know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus.

Paul is writing the new believers, encouraging them in the faith and reminding them of God's call on their lives on how to live as they look forward to Jesus' return. To live set apart in a culture that at that time was facing rampant sexual immorality. To not live like the gentiles do but to live a sanctified life that honors God. Paul urges the believers to grow more and more in love and aspiration to lead a quiet life to be walk properly toward those who are outside of Christ, showing that they lack nothing. Paul also answers some questions the new believers have about the return of Christ.

We continue in the Apostle Paul's epistle (letter) to the new believers in Thessolonica. Paul explains why he sent Timothy. Timothy a young follower of Christ, makes the journey to bring encouragement and comfort. Upon Timothy's return, Paul writes this letter and expresses how he longs to see them again.
Now in Rome, Paul flees persecution from the greek gentiles who worshipped pagan gods and the jews clinging to their traditional faith. Paul sends Timothy back to Thessolonica to check on the believers there calling them the "eklessia' in chapter one. In Paul's love and concern for them Timothy goes to Thessolonica to find out how they are doing, what questions they have and to encourage them in their faith. As Timothy gets back to Paul with good report of the new converts in Thessolonica, Paul writes them a letter. This is where we are finding ourselves, in the beginning portion of Paul's letter to these new believers. Let's jump in!

Have you ever wondered what Paul's ministry looked like after his radical conversion from persecuting Christians, to encountering Jesus and his entire life being changed for the gospel of Jesus Christ? We dive deep into context and history to better understand Paul's first epistle and find out. Thessalonians are letters written by Paul to new believers. How exciting to find out how Paul evangelized in the Roman republic.
My prayer for my listeners is we become lovers of God's Word and study ourselves to be approved. Thank you all for joining this deep dive and walking through the Word with me on the podcast. Enjoy!

The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

The disciples finally understand that Jesus knows everything. While they do not yet understand everything as Jesus reveals it to them, they believe. Knowing all they do, and seeing all they have, they cling to every word Jesus is speaking as the prophecy unravels before their eyes, of the Messiah. The disciples are grieving that Jesus is telling them He is leaving, but assures them that it is best He does, because if He doesn't, the Advocate won't come.
Bonus guest episode with a dear friend, preacher, and brother. This conversation is full of raw honesty. I hope this encourages us all to have honest conversations at the table that so desperately need to be had in the body.
Jesus is the visible, tangible image of the invisible God. He is the complete revelation of what God is like. Jesus explained to Philip, who wanted to see the Father, that to know Jesus is to know God. The search for God, the truth and reality, ends in Christ.
Colossians 1:15, “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation . ”
Hebrews 1:2-4, "Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names."

Perplexed by their Lord stooping down with a towel wrapped around His waist as He touches their feet, the disciples are watching Jesus show them an example. Riding into Jerusalem on a young donkey, palm leaves have paved the way for the King. Shouts of hosanna are filling the air. Jesus predicts his death.
We come to the last of the Seven Signs in John’s Gospel. And this time it is the Raising of Lazarus – a very appropriate place to be in our reading before we inch any closer to Easter this year. As Jesus raises a dead man to life, the plot for killing Jesus also begins.

"To whom should we go?" Peter replies to Jesus as many disciples walk away.

The Old Testament mentions three signs of the coming Messiah. In this chapter, John shows that Jesus has fulfilled all three signs. Cross reference these verses and see how they relate to what Jesus says in John chapter 5 about himself to the religious leaders.
The authority to judge is given to Him as the Son of Man
The lame and sick are healed
The dead are raised to life
Cross reference with Deuteronomy 32:39, 1 Samuel 2:6, and 2 Kings 5:7

After witnessing Jesus performing miraculous signs in Jerusalem at the passover celebration many began to trust Jesus. A religious leader, Nicodemus, a pharisee waits until it is night to meet with Jesus. Nicodemus asks the question, "how to be born again?". Then John's disciples notice more people going to Jesus to be baptized, and John tells his disciples more about who Jesus really is.

Jesus and His disciples are invited to a wedding party in Cana of Galilee and then Jesus arrives to the temple driving out those in the temple. His disciples then realize this was spoken of Him.
“For I endure scorn for your sake,
and shame covers my face.
I am a foreigner to my own family,
a stranger to my own mother’s children;
for zeal for your house consumes me,
and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
When I weep and fast,
I must endure scorn;
when I put on sackcloth,
people make sport of me.
Those who sit at the gate mock me,
and I am the song of the drunkards” (Psalm 69:7–12).

Paul and Barnabas travel to Jerusalem to attend the Council of Jerusalem and Paul begins his second missionary journey! We see the cultural clash between the jews and the gentiles, and some jewish men trying to inflict their ceremonies of circumcision and teachings onto the gentiles before they come to salvation in Christ. But these things are refuted and corrected and in this letter it is clarified that the men teachings these things, were not sent from them and that we are saved by faith in Christ, not traditions. Amen! So good!!
They are however given three things they ought to stay away from, and by doing so it would be well with them.

Here in chapter 14, we see the obedience of Paul and Barnabas to Christ outweigh any risks of being rejected, tortured or killed for sharing the Good News to all. They traveled by foot and by boat to reach all the people with the message of salvation through Christ and to strengthen and encourage new believers in their faith. Be encouraged by the example of Paul and Barnabas today as we read ch 14 together.

Notice the strategy the Holy Spirit led Paul and Barnabas in. Notice the way some people reject the good news, and others rejoice. Notice the way when Paul did bold things such as telling the sorcerer about his sin, it says that Paul first was filled with the Holy Spirit. We can learn so much about how to go about the great commission from Jesus by the early apostles and disciples. Notice how everything they did was first an unction from the Holy Spirit! How much more do we need to ask for the Holy Spirit to fulfill the things we have been called to do?

Talk about faith! We are seeing the early disciples of Christ undergoing severe persecution. Herod Agrippa seeks jewish applause by killing Jesus' followers and imprisoning them. But the church continues to grow steadfast and faithful. May we too be a people of radical faith and complete the call on our lives to get the gospel, the Good news of salvation through Christ alone, to the ends of the earth. May we be filled with the Holy Spirit moving in power and miracles and learn from the early church as we go through the book of Acts together!

Today's episode is an intense one. We see the first man martyred for the cause of Christ. Take some time to take notes here and study chapter 7. Stephen reminds the high council of the prophecies, of Israel's rebellion in the past and Israel's rebellion rejecting the Messiah now. Pay attention to how the Bible described Stephen and let us learn something of this man of God.

Chapter 4 might be one of my all time favorite chapters, because we see how the church started to gain momentum as persecution happened by religious leaders. We get to see the reaction of the people in Jerusalem to the healing of the man who had been lame for over 40 years! We see how the religious leaders and teachers didn't celebrate the healing miracle but did want to stop this teaching of Jesus paying no mind to the miracle. We get to see how the believers at this time were filled with the Holy Spirit in one mind and one accord! We can learn so much about our faith and the early church here in chapter 4 so let's dive in!

Whoa! How good is this!? Every chapter from the book of the Luke has been so directional and challenging. In this chapter, Jesus tells us to learn lessons from stories about asking, praying and what it is and what it takes to follow Him and enter the Kingdom of God. This chapter helps us understand how to come broken and contrite before the Him, how to cry out and he hears us! And that we can obey commandments, but Jesus also says to give our earthly treasures to the poor and our treasures will be in Heaven. Wow! What a meditation for this Christmas season. Not to covet to ourselves, but to give!!

This episode is for you. Hope, redemption and salvation is here for every person. Jesus came for every person. This is my story.
Today we read about how Jesus sent his disciples out. We hear the direction he gives them and witness miracles of Jesus casting out demons, healing the sick and feeding the hungry. Jesus tells his disciples who see five thousand hungry people- "you feed them". The book of Luke is such a great challenging book of truths for us to constantly remember as our model of faith as we witness the ministry o fJesus. Enjoy!!
Ch 8 of the Book of Luke starts to document some of the most incredible miracles. In ch 8 we also see the way desperation and reaching for Jesus, leads to actually touching Him and power being exchanged from Him to us. Wow, the message of desperation is sitting and finding a deeper place in my understanding and my heart today! Enjoy the episode friends! and Merry Christmas!
This episode is so special. Reading more about the person of Jesus and His character. So steadfast, so honest so true, so compassionate. And a humble powerful teacher to the proud. I hope you guys enjoy and are being touched and challenged by the absolute goodness of God!! Merry Christmas season everyone.
Here in Ch 5 and 6 of the book of Luke we get a lot of teaching directly from Jesus. While the teachings of Jesus are often found beautiful, applying it to our own lives can be extremely challenging. I hope that this week as we listen and hear from Jesus we meditate and ask the Holy Spirit to help us apply the Word to our lives. What a gift it would be to be more like Him and reflect His heart into the World this Christmas seasons! Be blessed!
