In this episode of 420 Reasons Why I Quit Drinking Alcohol, titled "Grand Haven Beach Party: Big Sis, Little Sis, and Spiked Punch," I share a story from my freshman year in high school when my sister, a senior, and her best friend became our "acting big sisters," looking out for us and making sure we had fun. The story takes place at Grand Haven Beach, where we attended a big sister/little sister beach party. It was a day filled with fun, sun, and beach punch—alcohol included. Through it all, my admiration for my sister shines as I reflect on how much I've always looked up to her.

In this episode, I share 13 invaluable lessons I've learned over my 13-year journey of sobriety. These insights reflect my personal growth, the power of maintaining a positive mindset, and how spiritual guidance has shaped my life. I talk about how gratitude has transformed my outlook, embracing the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO), and the importance of surrounding myself with wise, supportive individuals. I also discuss how making intentional choices leads to meaningful change and how the Bible has been a guiding light for me.

Alcohol once drained my energy and focus, but sobriety has given me control of my life. Practices like Mel Robbins' "High Five" technique have boosted my confidence, and I’ve learned to accept that not everyone will be comfortable with the changes I’ve made. Most importantly, I emphasize focusing on personal growth rather than just goals, and how nurturing my relationship with God and myself has been my greatest strategy for staying sober and fulfilled.

In the latest episode of the 420 Reasons Why I Quit Drinking Alcohol podcast, I reflect on significant milestones, particularly September, which holds many anniversaries for me. One of the highlights is the story of how I accidentally spent my first night in my incredible new condo, which offers breathtaking views. Even though it was still under construction, with no bed or furniture, I chose to sleep there rather than risk driving back to my apartment wasted. This unplanned sleepover turned out to be a wise and creative decision, reminding me of the positive changes in my life since quitting alcohol—a true "room with a view" in more ways than one.

I share my personal journey of feeling the distance grow in friendships as I embraced sobriety. Drawing on Mel Robbins' insight, I explore how positive change and growth can sometimes confront others, forcing them to reflect on their own lives. This reflection can lead to a widening gap between us and our friends as they may not be ready or willing to change. Despite the distance, I discuss the importance of still loving them, even if it's from afar.

This is the horrifying story of one of my worst relationships with a Scotsman. I have shared about him before how we got together, how he started to show me his true colors within 3 months and I should have known better and ran then but I stayed. This is the trip to Rhode Island, a place he had once lived, had friends, his local bar and good memories. This trip turned into a nightmare for me after an all day drink session we had been on, going back to the hotel to rest up late afternoon and not making it out again. But I made it out unbeknownst to me when I went sleep walking. Here's the story, sad and pathetic as it was I still stayed with this horrible wretched man. What was it that kept me with him?

In the latest episode of "420 Reasons Why I Quit Drinking," I reflect on the numerous attempts I've made to quit drinking over the years. Despite my efforts, I often found myself returning to alcohol, with my longest stint of sobriety lasting about six weeks. Although I loved the sober life, it never lasted, and alcohol always won in the end.

This time, however, I approached my journey differently. When I recently decided to quit smoking weed on April 1st, I made sure to write down my reasons why. This effort led to a four-month period of sobriety, which was a significant achievement for me.

In this episode, I share the story of what triggered me to start smoking again, how I ended up eating a Doobie Ball, and the side effects that followed. These experiences made me realize that I was done with chasing substances, as I always ended up losing—losing my inhibition, self-control, and the feeling of genuine well-being.

As of July 20th, I have a new sobriety date and a renewed commitment to staying sober

There are better ways to handle emotions, and getting intoxicated wasn't the answer for me. Tune in to learn more about my journey and how I found healthier ways to manage my emotions.

In this episode of "Letting Go of Those Who No Longer Serve You," we explore the challenging yet necessary task of setting boundaries in friendships, especially when dealing with self-destructive behaviors. I share a personal story of how I mishandled a friendship with someone who was drinking uncontrollably. Instead of communicating openly, I abruptly stopped spending time with her, taking a year to explain my actions due to fear of hurting her feelings. Reflecting on another friendship where I was cut off, I now see the favor done for me, as that person was also on a path of destruction. This episode highlights the importance of consciously moving away from friendships centered around unhealthy behaviors and finding the strength to make positive changes in our social circles.

In the latest episode of "420 Reasons Why I Quit Drinking Alcohol," I recount a harrowing experience from August 1983. As a teenager, I attended a party with upperclassmen, hoping to impress a boy I liked. I brought a bottle of gin, which led to a two-day bender, resulting in alcohol poisoning and significant physical harm. Despite this traumatic experience, I continued drinking for many years, believing it was necessary for fun. I want you to know that true freedom and enjoyment in life come without alcohol, and there are countless fulfilling activities that don't involve drinking. I want to offer to anyone who is looking for accountability my support I will be there for you listening, connecting, supporting you step by step and day by day. I was so grateful I had a couple people on my journey who I could turn to during my early years of sobriety. I want to be that person for you. Reach out to my cell 773-817-3446 for support. This is a reflection back on “the LIST” I had of the guys that I had hooked up with and was so proud of it at one time. Reflecting back now I understand better why I continued to choose the wrong guy, wanting the wrong relationship, excepting the little I got thinking it was cool to have another notch in my belt. Really it was just another hole in my heart leaving me more empty then ever. My heart is now full, full of love, respect, confidence and adoration for myself. Knowing what I deserve, loving the Lord, myself and who I really am. I am fucking cool, awesome, vibrant and full of life. My energy is my super power and it’s contagious and not available for the wrong reasons or souls.

It felt hard because I was afraid of the shame I felt for how I felt I disrespected my position. So listen up and hear how today I realized it was time to practice self forgiveness. This was a tough one. This is the one that I read a letter my mother wrote to me 6/17/2001 expressing her concern for the drinking, chasing happiness, avoiding myself and unhealthy all consuming relationships with men. It was because the prayers of my parents that I have made it out of those destructive patterns and behaviors . My parents stepped up and spoke up with loving concern. I’m so grateful to share this experience. In a sea of champagne toasts and enthusiastic cheers, standing as the only sober individual on New Year's Eve paints a unique picture. While others revel in the high spirits and lively energy of the night, the perspective shifts when alcohol isn't part of the equation. It's akin to watching a vibrant performance from backstage—observing the enthusiasm and exuberance, yet feeling detached from the scripted euphoria. The laughter seems louder, the conversations more animated, but the disconnect becomes palpable. Over time, the desire to immerse oneself in this high-energy celebration diminishes, making room for a quieter, more introspective appreciation for genuine connections and the choice of a different, more tranquil path towards personal fulfillment.🌟 Unlock Your Sober Curiosity Potential with a Personal Discovery Call! 🌟If you’d like to set up a 1:1 time with me please connect with me through my link here >> https://linktr.ee/dianeegibbs Or DM or email me at Dianeegibbs@gmail.com Let's connect on a discovery call and embark on this transformative journey together. 🎙️ Welcome back to "420 Reasons Why I Quit Drinking Alcohol"! Today, brace yourselves for a raw, honest tale that unfolds in the college whirlwind of the 80s.Remember those times when hanging out with parents didn't exactly scream 'cool'? Yeah, been there. In college, my folks weren't the partying type. Rarely sipped on a Manhattan or So Co Old Fashion—hardly the life of the kegger, right? So, I'd skip hanging with them and head over to our neighbors'—my best friend's wild aunts and grandma. These ladies knew how to kickstart a cocktail hour any time. Booze? Check. Oh, and one of them was a fan of the green, too. They were the epitome of 'Let's party!' and my reckless goal was always to join the 'good times' brigade. But fast-forward to now, watching friends push booze onto their kids, even before it's legal—yikes. Witnessing a cringe-worthy scene at a recent bash, with moms and college kids doing shots, one ending up in a mess while the rest laughed—I had to make a swift exit. The twist? I've never spilled this to my parents. Guilt hung heavy as I'd be in town, next door, and still missed dropping by. But lately, Thanksgiving visits have been gold. I've begun cherishing those moments, especially since my 30s, when dinners with my fiancé and them became a pivotal point. It's been a revelation—a newfound grown-up relationship appreciation. This isn't just about avoiding the 'rents; it's about embracing the value of moments spent together.Reflecting on my journey, I've realized the importance of being mindful about alcohol's role in our lives. It's not just about us but about the legacy we're leaving for the next generation.🔍 Dive deeper into the show notes for resources and tools on reevaluating your relationship with alcohol. Consider these journal prompts:What role does alcohol play in my life? How does it affect me and those around me?Reflect on past alcohol-related experiences. In this week's podcast episode, I reflect on the transformative Sober Curious Challenge and my journey of navigating it without relying on weed. Delving into my relationships with friends and substances, I shared a poignant experience from the past where a close friend, a bartender, was the only one encouraging me to continue drinking when I chose to quit. That moment signaled the end of that friendship, prompting me to reevaluate my expectations of support from friends in conjunction with my relationship with alcohol.Realizing the need for internal examination and self-support, I discovered how to activate my dopamine levels—the 'feel good hormone'—without relying on substances. I learned that activities like dancing, singing, and movement were powerful tools to elevate dopamine, rather than relying on smoking more weed or consuming alcohol. Exploring this further, I highlighted how alcohol may activate dopamine, but its effects necessitate increased consumption, dampening the natural release over time.I'm passionate about sharing insights, tools, and resources to help others activate their dopamine positively—through nutrition, quality sleep, and physical activity. My aim is to support your journey and offer guidance on embracing healthy, uplifting habits. Reach out—I'm here to share and assist in your path to a fulfilling, substance-free life. The goal of drinking alcohol can vary from person to person. For many, the goal is to socialize, relax, or enhance the enjoyment of an event or meal. However, in some cases, people may drink with the explicit goal of getting drunk or "fucked up." In the story you shared, it seems the goal was indeed to get drunk, but it's also a reflection of experiences that led to the decision to quit drinking. Today, we're delving into a critical topic that many can relate to: the relationship between alcohol and men, and the red flags it can often hide. In this episode, we'll explore the pitfalls of mixing alcohol with romantic relationships and how it can prevent us from finding genuine and committed connections.

Before we dive into our story, let's set the stage. It's no secret that alcohol can impact the dynamics of relationships, leading to impulsive decisions, blurred judgment, and sometimes, fleeting encounters that leave us feeling empty and unfulfilled. If you've ever experienced a one-night stand that didn't lead to a meaningful connection, you're not alone. But what happens when alcohol becomes the foundation of a long-term relationship?

I endured a toxic relationship for years, largely centered around alcohol. Through my experience, we can learn valuable lessons about recognizing red flags and discovering self-respect and self-love.

From the beginning, alcohol played a significant role in our interactions. While it may have seemed like fun at first, it soon became evident that we were hiding behind the haze of alcohol, avoiding the deeper issues in our relationship.

When I finally decided to distance myself from alcohol, my perspective shifted dramatically. I began to see patterns of mistreatment and disrespect from my partner that I had been blind to before. The influence of alcohol had clouded my judgment and allowed me to tolerate behavior that I deserved better than.

Understanding that I deserved to be treated with kindness and respect made me question why I had allowed myself to endure years of mistreatment. I realized that in order to find genuine love and commitment, I needed to love and respect myself first. That meant removing alcohol from the equation and being honest about my needs and boundaries.

I want to emphasize that finding the right partner and building a fulfilling relationship starts with self-awareness. Be honest with yourself about what you truly deserve, and don't settle for less. Remember, removing alcohol doesn't just apply to men; it applies to anyone seeking meaningful connections. So, let's raise our standards and love ourselves more.

As the night progressed, My rebellious spirit refused to be contained. Despite being dropped off at home, I couldn't resist the magnetic pull of adventure. This is the one about the birthday party that started at noon with me being the only one at the party until I went the official birthday celebration dinner at the Erie Cafe, drunk as a skunk, putting shit up my trunk, losing my junk $100 dinner and ended up in the trunk or felt like it at least. I was in denial of the self-sabotage the alcohol was taking on my life and relationships. Self-sabotage is a behavior where we do things that prevent us from achieving our goals. This can happen consciously or unconsciously and can affect our personal and professional success, as well as our mental health. In order to stop self-sabotage, we must first become aware of what causes it.Identifying self-sabotaging behavior is critical to noticing unhelpful patterns of behavior and strengthening the ability to stop them in their tracks. Take some time and journal. Here is helpful way to begin identifying forms of self-sabotage is to frame your situation using the following sentence: "I want to achieve (goal), but I keep doing (behavior)."Some common types of self-sabotage include perfectionism, struggling with moderation, running on empty, procrastination, and a lack of communication. The signs of self-sabotage can be subtle, such as negative self-talk and extreme self-criticism.To stop self-sabotaging, there are five key steps to take:Develop self-awarenessWrite it out - JournalCreate a plan - and do itPractice mindfulness - CommunicateRemember that trying to change too much at once is classic self-defeating behavior. Working with a coach or mental health professional can provide support and accountability as you learn how to stop self-sabotaging and move forward.Thank you for tuning in to episode 48 of our podcast. Remember the time when the earth was green, there were more kind of drunks than you’d ever seen, they ran around free when it was St Paddy’s day but the loveliest of all was the Leprechaun. So this is the story when I got the be in the Chicago St Patrick Day Parade with my beloved local bar Johnny Ohagans. The day-long festivities started real early with a hearty Irish breakfast to get the juices flowing, heading to the parade to wait and drink and wait and drink until the parade began. Then more drinking and shenanigans throughout the day. I thought I was doing myself a favor by ending the St Patrick’s day party early so I could go home and order food but instead while I was waiting on my food I passed out and missed my delivery. Remember the time when you drove home from the bar on St Patrick’s and ended up in the neighbors front lawn? This story is a good reminder for us to remember the importance of not drinking and driving. It is never worth the risk of endangering ourselves and others on the road. There are many alternatives available nowadays, such as ride-sharing services and public transportation, that can help us get home safely after a night out. It's important to plan ahead and make arrangements for a sober ride, and to always prioritize safety over convenience or saving a few bucks. I share some journal prompts looking at the “WHY” Maybe you could dive deep and discover your “WHY”. Take some time and tune into your vision and your desires...how you want to feel? What do you want to create? What would be really exciting? When you are working towards a goal it is helpful to understand your “why”. In this particular worksheet I have used health as an example. Many of us say we want to get healthy, but why? Why do we want to be healthier? When you first decide to focus on your health your “why” is usually simple. You might want to lose weight, gain energy, sleep better and just feel better. Today we’re going to dig deeper into your surface level “why” using a popular technique called “The 5 Why’s.” This will allow you to find your deep rooted WHY!So you’ll start with the first one that comes to mind, and then ask yourself “Why?” again. Write that down, then ask again “Why?” and so on until you’ve gone 5 levels deep.I want you to really sit with this and feel into what’s right in your GUT. If you get frustrated or feel stuck, take a deep breath, go for a walk, or do a quick meditation :)Here’s an Example:Why do I want to transform my health? So I wake up feeling good and full of energyWhy do I want to feel good and have more energy? So I can be a better partner, business owner, friend, family member and community member. I want to live life more joyfully Why do I want to be a better partner, biz owner, friend, family and community member? Why do I want to live with more joy?Because I only have one life. I want to be happy and contribute to the happiness of others. Why do you want to be happy and contribute to others?Because I would like to have the opportunity to make a positive impact during my short time on this earth. Why do you want to make a positive impact? Because the world needs more people who are awake, alive and living a life on purpose. OK, YOUR TURN…Why do I want (Enter goal here___________________)? some examples include: Start a business, heal a relationship, change careers, move to a new location, develop a meditation practice, give up booze etc. The goal is up to you :-) Why do I want ___________________(above)?Why do I want ___________________(above)?Why do I want ___________________(above)?Why do I want ___________________(above)?My underlying “WHY” is: (write your answer below)This WHY will allow you to stay rooted when things become difficult and motivation might be lacking :)I want to support you and take time to hear what you’re struggling with, what you desire and what your life would like if you make the changes.Let’s set up a 1:1 time on me. St. Patrick was kidnapped at 16 from Britain and brought to Ireland as a slave for 6 years.During his time in captivity, he turned to his faith and eventually escaped back to Britain before returning to Ireland as a missionary.St. Patrick shared the concept of the Holy Trinity, which represents 3 persons in one God, to an unbeliever by using a Shamrock, the national flower of Ireland.St. Patrick's Day is a popular celebration around the world, often marked by drinking green beer and other festive activities. This is my experience at MSU involving selling textbooks to start the day's celebration, which ended in unpleasant results. 🤢🤮. This is the one I share about my New Years Eve reflections past, present and future. Looking at the tradition around the world & how others celebrate the night. Working for years at my restaurant distracted me from the parties, when I did party, drink and celebrate I was too drunk to appreciate the fun and folks I was with. During the past couple alcohol free years NYE has looked different with smaller groups. Then it happened to be my boyfriend, Lew’s birthday, who died in 2012. So it changed the celebration and my level of participation. Reach out if you want to talk about being sober curious. Let’s talk.

What is Alcohol: a colorless, volatile, FLAMMABLE liquid which once fermented produces intoxicating results in wine, beer and spirits but also an INDUSTRIAL Solvent and as FUEL - ETHANOL- GASOLINE, anti freeze and rocket fuel = poison. And why are we drinking it? Looking at 11 different alcohols and their magic ingredients and what my drink of choice was for each one.
