Karalevine Ruzz became a tattoo artist for only one reason: to save her life. It's been ten years since the Devouring. Things appear to be relatively normal for a seventeen-year-old orphan living in the city of Zarmania. The alien forces of the Arianyte Empire have effectively annexed the planet Earth. For the most part, life has gone on as usual; in fact, many people's lives have improved as a result of the extraterrestrial technology and the restoration of the planet.

Yet, Kara's survival is continuously threatened by those within The Arianyte Empire's occupation. This extraterrestrial enforcement service seeks more than just control of Earth. They're looking for the galaxy's most powerful weaponry. For decades, the extraterrestrial occupation has targeted anyone with a hint of a unique or uncommon geometric mark on their body, with unusual powers to match. How does Kara know she's been a target her entire life? Because they came to the orphanage where she lived as a child, looking for children bearing the mark of creation. Looking for her. Kara's mark is powerful and dangerous, and they eventually find her. But it wasn't Kara who was taken from her orphanage bed that night. Unable to control her power, Kara was powerless to prevent her only friend from vanishing into the black-hole that is Arianyte.

Now, Kara is pursuing Arianyte with vigor. She fights Earth's oppressors with the support of the human resistance. Kara has a risky strategy to hit the alien occupation where it hurts the most, but no one has ever dared to try it. How far would she go to bring the mighty alien tyrants down, to find her lost friend? Or will her tenacity result in a disaster far worse than she could have imagined? Where do you draw the line between fighting for the greater good and seeking vengeance?

Join me as I chat with Courtney Lillard, author of The Dark Angel series!

Shadow's Grasp (Book One) blurb:

Demons and their illegal magic are dangerous. Even as a child, Coura was aware of these facts. That didn’t stop her from striking up a deal with one.

Years later, as a gifted dark mage and trained combatant, she believes fate will lead her to serve in the kingdom’s army. A visit to the capital city alongside her mentor, Byron, exposes her to the world outside of their academy where she befriends an herbalist, an assistant general, and even the crowned prince. However, the journey home tests her physical and mental fortitude when the group is attacked by angels, the so-called protectors of humanity.

Coura finds words won’t save them as the secret locked away within herself is forced to the forefront. Can her supposedly evil power stand up to that of legend? Will she be prepared for the repercussions of her past decision, or is she destined to be swept away by the consequences?

Author Bio:

Courtney Lillard was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin as the middle of five children. Growing up, she enjoyed music and theater, and participating in both allowed her to develop a deeper interest in the arts. Lillard graduated from Quincy University in 2012 with a B.A. degree in Communications and from Western Illinois University in 2018 with a M.A. degree in Communication Studies.

Outside of writing, Lillard is a fan of reading fantasy stories and classics. Her other hobbies include cooking, relaxing by the pool, and doing puzzles, even though her cat Scarlett knocks the pieces off the table. She currently lives with her husband in the Midwest (USA).

"At first, I wrote for fun and nothing else because I never expected to publish the complete series. I still write for fun, but I think a lot of people get lost in the marketing process, especially if they aspire to become a full-time author. My stories are for myself first and foremost. If I can capture a reader's attention and entertain them until the last page, then I've succeeded in my duty as a writer."

join me as I chat with dark fantasy romance author Zara J Black whose second book in the Ruled by Magic series, Owned by Magic, just came out last Thursday!

Owned by Magic blurb:

I'll be safe in the prince's bed, from everyone but him.

I stole from a brutal street gang, and now they want me dead. There’s only one place they can’t touch me. The palace. But safety comes at the cost of my freedom. I'll sell myself as a courtesan, serve for five years, and leave with enough money to pay my debt.

Crown Prince Adante wields his power like a knife, and when his gaze turns my way, I know he could destroy me. An innocent mistake earns his attention—along with bruised knees and a painful punishment.

I should listen to the others. I shouldn't catch his eye again. But I've always courted danger, and in the prince, I see a chance at power and revenge. He loves to gamble—sadistic games of pleasure and pain.

All I can wager are my body, mind, and soul. And I play to win.

Owned by Magic is a dark fantasy romance intended for an adult audience.

Author Bio:

Zara began writing in her thirties after reading a series of “fade to black” fantasy books and wondering why the hell the author didn’t make them smuttier.

Challenge, accepted.

She loves creating magical fantasy worlds, turbulent relationships and dark, kinky heroes (who could be villains if you squint a bit.)

When she’s not thinking up ways to torment her characters, Zara lives on the beautiful Gold Coast, Australia with two kiddos and a husband who make her real life far more magical than her stories.
