I've been doing a lot of thinking recently about what I am trying to achieve with the content I am putting out into the world. I was going through and editing my busking videos and I had to ask myself; "Why am I doing this"?
Every time I go out and record myself busking, I am giving myself more work to do that has nothing to do with creating music, improving as a musician, or helping others.
For the longest time, I thought that this was just a necessary evil in order to build a bigger platform to launch my music off.
But why do I need a bigger platform? Why do I need more followers, more likes, more views? What purpose is this going to serve? What am I hoping is going to happen? My whole value structure had been perverted by social media.
For the most part, I hate what social media has done to humanity. It has turned us into passive apes. We constantly compare ourselves with virtual figments and assume our positions in hierarchies that do not exist.
It is not healthy to know or care about what anybody else is doing on a regular basis, with the exception of your immediate friends and family really.
I have been mainly using social media for my own selfish motives and desires. This will always be true on some level.
But I also want to be 100% honest and transparent in my endeavors. And I want to inspire people to do the same and follow their hearts.
It's not about changing the entire world. You can actually have the most influence within your family and friend groups. And you can have a positive impact within your local communities. And that is enough of a reason to try and do so.
An acquaintance will care more about what you have to say than a stranger. The world has gotten too big for us to feel like we can make any sort of difference. But the actual world of your everyday reality is a lot smaller than you think. And you can make a difference.
I've always wanted to start a podcast. Consider this episode one.
