What's good! We are Ky and Sy. We go back like fo' flats on a Cadillac. For the uninformed, that just means we've been friends for quite a while! Each week on FMS, you will hear Sy, and I (Kyron) review old & new music, celebrate the local and lesser-known musicians, and tell incredibly funny stories. Some are very true. Some are VERY made-up. :)
Thanks for your support. Praise the Lort (yes, Lord with a 'T')! Welcome to the shenanigans!
"We Are" reviewing (see what we did there lol) the talented and favorable music artist Jon Batiste, or Baptista according to FMS host Sy McClure lol. His "We Are" Deluxe Album has been known to be a some what poppy, soulful, and political moving album according to others, but in true For Music's Sake fashion, will the music, topics and sound stand the test of time? From making a few previous albums before this one, and being in several bands including the a band on TV Series "The Colbert Show", we take a deep dive into this multifaceted musician's views of lyrics and musicianship! Come with us FMS fam! Ladies and Gentlemen, we liked to introduce our very first guest reviewer Michael "MACB" Bender! It's an exciting time as we move in our purpose to feature guest that give all new perspective on the Timeless album search. Today we look into the triple threat (singer, rapper, producer) Christon Gray's "School of Roses" album to see if early 2014 album of his has the Timeless factor. Was the risk from Christian hip-hop to something that could be deemed secular a good move? What will our guest MACB bring to the table? Stay tuned...

What's good, fam? St. Louis hip-hop is criminally underrated, and the style is hard to nail down. We get into Chingy, Nelly & the St. Lunatics, St. Louis production styles, and more. We pray you listen to this episode while "goin' down, down baby, YO' street in a Range Rover." Or, your Subaru, your Hooptie, or your Honda Accord... Whatever you got, enjoy the episode! :)EPISODE CREDITSProduced, Edited, and Mixed by Kyron Walker and Sy McClureArtwork Design by Sy McClureOriginal Theme Song and Background Music by Kyron Walker & Sy McClure(Interpolation of G.K.C.'s Single - Here We Go) Other Music licensed through Fair Use for critique.

We are back like we never left! Except.... we kinda did leave. Y'ALL. We had to take some time off. Let me tell ya... Life be Lifin'. So. Here's the latest episode. It was recorded several months ago. This is a long one y'all AND there is a part 2 because of connection issues. The Game's "The Documentary" was a moment in hip-hop. And......it's still a vibe. What kind of vibe, you say? Tune in to hear! Ps. Name droppin' in lyrics, West Coast hip-hop, and G-Unit are some of the things we discuss here. We talk to the incomparable Son of Laughter a.k.a. Chris Slaten from Chattanooga, Tennessee. This is our first episode touching on music other than hip-hop. You're in for a treat as we discuss how long it takes to write good songs, Shoegaze music, and what impedes Chris' desire to freestyle for us. Enjoy.
Sorry for the delay! Here's part 2 of the Errol Album Review. See what rating we give this album once it's all said and done!

We talk about Jay-Z's introspection (01:17), Sy breaks down some classic Jay-Z lines (04:36), and our final album ratings (19:15).
TIME STAMPS:
Sy asserts that, (07:45) "gangsta music" plus "pimp music" equals "hustle music". Ky breaks some the anticipatory nature and syncopation of Politics as Usual production (26:50). We also talk about why we prefer hooks and choruses that are "clean" (01:00:39) and how we admire Jay-z's mentorship and brotherly love shown to a young Memphis Bleek (01:15:00). It's worth being said "one mo' 'gain"; Memphis Bleek sounds incredible! Check out Episode 4.5 for the overall album review!

Time is Illmatic! If you are a hip-hop fan, then you know why we had to do this one. Tell me, what comes to mind when you think of New York City? Is it Broadway? Times Square? The Statue of Liberty, maybe? In his homage to his beloved stomping grounds, Nas says, "I think of crime when I'm in a New York State of Mind". Well, Nas... "it ain't hard to tell" that I ain't about that life so I'm glad you dropped this album so we can all be educated about it :)

Why are we talking about a controversial topic such as minstrel shows? The subject of our first album review is Little Brother's "The Minstrel Show." That's why!
Y'all... There is so much to unpack with this album. We talk about Spike Lee and satire, fanboy over 9th Wonder's drums and drum patterns, and discuss whether or not Big Pooh is genuinely the weakest link on this project.
