While religious traditions and preferences can be important, and a benefit to those who practice them, elevating them to a "gospel" status can be harmful. Rather, we should be on the lookout for those things within ourselves that threaten to harm us and our neighbor.
This week in John 6:66-69 we are challenged to answer this question for ourselves. To whom else could we go? Who else has the words of life? It's not always easy to answer but for many, the answer is Jesus.
In our lives, we learn from the wisdom of others and we are called to walk in that wisdom, especially in light of God's love. What does that look like? We'll talk about it in our examination of Ephesians 5:15-20
1 Kings 19 tells about the time that Elijah was so down that he wanted to die. God fed him and gave him rest and he was able to continue on.
We seek after a lot of different things to fill our spiritual hunger but only Jesus promises spiritual fulfillment through faith in his resurrection.
Whose kingdom do we belong to? Who gets to say who is in or out? Hint: it's not us. This week in Mark 3, Jesus defines his ownership of the kingdom and defines who is in - those who do the will of God.

On Trinity Sunday we had a combined service with Tanner's Grove Community Church. We were in Matthew 3 looking at a snapshot of the Trinity and talking about how God is "well pleased" with us in Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is a gift from God to help guide us, always pointing back to Jesus and helping us to point others towards faith.

We often refer to God as Father and use male pronouns to refer to God. But in reality, God is both male and female while also being much more. All of us can find the image of God inside of ourselves no matter what gender we are. Mothers are made in the image of God as well as sisters, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, etc. The Bible refers to God in a feminine way many times. It is not an insult nor is it a concession. God transcends gender. God is not just male, nor just female. God exists outside of expressions of gender and yet encompasses them all. It’s important that women be able to see themselves in God as well.

This past week many Christians celebrated Ash Wednesday where they meditated on the shortness of life and were reminded that they would die. It's a way of centering their lives and reminding themselves of what's important. This week we wanted to explore the flip side of that for a moment - Remember to live. We live in a near constant state of tiredness in one form or another. Life is sometimes crazy and the busyness doesn't seem like it will ever stop. We get tired of work or school and tired with putting up with each other. But God is never tired. We can rest in his strength!

A religious expert sought to test Jesus by asking what was the bare minimum he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tested him in return, reminding him that we show our love for God by how we love our neighbor.

Everyone prays for something, whether it's for themselves, others, or the world. We all have needs and wants that we ask God to help us with. Often he answers those prayers, but sometimes he's silent. It's difficult to wait in the silence when a need is weighing on us so heavily, but Jesus promises that God will give us more of himself to help us through!

In Luke 10:1-9 Jesus sends out seventy-two disciples to tell people about the kingdom of God. In today's church we often invite people to come to us more than we go to them, and that's ok, but it's not the only way. Jesus is still calling us to go out and proclaim the kingdom of God to everyone in our local context.

This week Jesus encounters a man possessed by a "legion" of demons. He frees him and gives him one simple commandment - Go home and tell of all God has done for you. And that's what we should be focused on doing too!

What is the trinity? What is it like? This week we look at John 16 where Jesus talks about the Holy Spirit. We can't possibly exhaustively cover everything there is to know about the Holy Spirit, especially in 10 minutes, but this week we look at the concept of the Holy Spirit guiding us into the truth that Jesus is the Messiah. It's a huge concept and it entails a lot. If we believe this, what does it mean and what difference does it make? The Holy Spirit helps us to understand that and put Jesus' commands into practice.

This week we're looking at Jesus' triumphal entry and crucifixion as recorded in the book of Luke. On Sunday, the people are welcoming Jesus as king, or at least the type of king they want. By Friday, they are shouting "Crucify!" because he didn't come to be that king. He came as the king of the entire universe!

This week, we are looking in John 12:1-8 at the time when Mary, one of Jesus' followers, anoints him with expensive oil, worshipping him lavishly. We also see Judas, the one who would betray Jesus, holding back and criticizing her worship. Sometimes we get in our own way and don't worship as lavishly as we ought to because we're criticizing the worship of others.

Jesus knows what it's like to be tempted and unlike us most of the time, he was victorious. We can learn from him to use scripture to fight temptation and lean on God for strength.

Life is full of ups and downs. It's the same for everyone. We all deal with disappointment and disaster. Jesus is calling us to take him down into the valley, to lean on his grace even more when we can't stand on our own.

It's super easy to be judgmental and harsh towards others, especially if they hurt you. But Jesus calls us to be different - to show mercy and do good.

In life, we find ourselves straddling the line between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. Sometimes it's intentional and sometimes it's not. Either way, God is always calling us to receive his love and share it with those around us.
