PTSD, Jesus and Me There is much stigma to mental health issues in America and in the world. It is, perhaps, the most overlooked healthcare issue in society today. However, when we choose to address it and surround ourselves with people who refuse to let us ignore it, there IS healing and there IS Hope. This is a podcast hosted by a trauma survivor, a CPTSD patient, and a thriver. This raw and real podcast seeks to educate through story, science, and a faith that heals because of a God who understands our sufferings.#PTSD #Anxiety #Depression #MentalHealthMatters #EMDR #RRT #LFS #Survivor #Jesus

CONTACT KARISSACONTACT AMYThe enneagram has been a widely used tool in recent years. This effective tool helps us understand our core motivations—and understanding those core motivations helps us understand how we think, feel and behave. Understanding who God made us (fearfully and wonderfully Ps 139) can help us process trauma.

What if we understood why we find ourselves running from emotional pain? What if if we could name our greatest fears? What if we understood those fears? What if we understood childhood messaging? What if we paid attention to how God made us? WHAT IF?

This episode of Wednesdays With Watson brings Karissa Harrison. Karissa is a certified enneagram coach and brings expertise to the podcast that is in line with listener expectations. Karissa is also a pastor and brings her heart for people to the podcast. This episode provides a gospel centered approach to the enneagram, and is in line with how God made us as we see in Genesis 3:26.

Karissa provides an overview of the enneagram, a greek word, meaning “nine” and “picture”. What is different about the enneagram as compared to other highly popular personality assessments? Karissa tells us, and helps us understand the power of this tool! This tool can be extraordinarily helpful in the presence of trauma.

Centers of Intelligence

Each enneagram type operates in a primary center of intelligence. Centers of intelligence helps us understand how we are processing information and making decisions. Our secondary center of intelligence plays a supporting role. Our third center of intelligence is the one that we suppress and can work against us.

The gut (body) center of intelligence are enneagram types 8, 9 & 1.

The heart center of intelligence are enneagram types 2, 3 & 4.

The head center of intelligence are enneagram types 5, 6 & 7. Core Fear

Our core fear (or motivation) will inform our behavior. We will avoid our core fear at all cost. We spend tremendous amounts of energy trying to prevent the realization of our core fear. Understanding the enneagram core fear helps us get to the root of what causes undesired behaviors and reactions to life in general. Understanding our core fear helps us process trauma.

Childhood Messaging

Childhood messaging is important for us to understand. Childhood messaging is the message that we experience either directly or indirectly in childhood. There are three types of childhood messaging and it influences the way we show up in the world as adults.

Wounding messages that arrive with an intent to harm.

Injuring messages that arrive without intent to harm.

Influencing messages that arrive from our caretakers without intent to harm.

Core Longings

Core longing is the message each of our hearts need to hear both implicitly and directly. We receive these messages through the truth of the Bible and through community. While nothing on this planet will ever totally meet our core longing, it is helpful to understand what our hearts need to hear. When we do this, we can set ourselves up for healing from trauma. The enneagram paired with scripture and a coach can yield jaw dropping healing moments in the life of a PTSD patient. How can we use the enneagram as a tool in our ever- growing tool kit? In this bonus episode, Amy shares her experience working with an enneagram coach—gaining awareness and continuing to heal—healing that doesn’t make sense.

Awareness is essential to healing, understanding the blueprint of how God made us can change everything.

Paying attention to trauma, leaning into the pain, and choosing resources to help us heal is the way through. We hope to provide a little of that for you in this episode.

We all have core fears, and desires. Most of us have received wounding messages at one point in our lives. Most of us have realized our deepest fear at one point in our lives. While both of these often start in childhood, they can come at any time, and that leaves us living in our worst fears, and not the best versions of ourselves, or who God made us to be. Often our behaviors are driven by these things. Our coping styles (or lack of coping styles) often originate with our core need not being met and/or the realization of our core fears.

The Wednesdays With Watson podcast has a genesis of Amy sharing her journey with. PTSD. This is one of those episodes, may you find Hope in the healing story, what can actually happen when we pay attention to how God made us?

My Favorite part of podcasting is YOU and interacting with you. Please feel free to reach out to me using any of the options here. I would love to connect! This is the follow up to an earlier episode where Amy shares her story and some of her favorite songs (special guest Phil Baker). You can find that episode here. This content was originally part of a cross over event with The Faithful Podcast, with host Stephanie Baker. On her own podcast, Watson leaves listeners on a cliffhanger, and in this bonus episode, she shares the follow up episode with the Wednesdays With Watson listeners who may not have popped over to The Faithful Podcast.May you be encouraged by the power of surrender, regardless of how painful your life is, or has been, most often times the only way to survive is to walk through it. Watson chronicles one of those such times in this hopeful and creative episode. This is exclusive content and is actually a portion of Watson's developing manuscript.THANK YOU to those of you who have continued to walk through this journey with us. We are not done, we are in full on planning stages for Season 3, that title to be announced soon. Until then, we will provide bonus episodes and will continue to remind you that YOU MATTER, and that you are SEEN, KNOWN, HEARD, LOVED & VALUED. Here in the healing zone, we believe that 3 things can drastically change the trauma narrative. It is vital for trauma survivors to flank themselves with a strong community. It is imperative for them to also seek trauma informed counseling and in some form, church can be part of the healing process (this is my experience, but sometimes church is the causation of trauma). We believe in Jesus, and Watson refers to Him as the Star of her own story and firmly believes he can be yours too.
