Jade sat down this week with the founder and lead consultant of the Essential Education Group, Emma Pinnock.
Emma can only be described as being an incredibly positive force in education and within the special educational needs and disabilities space, a space that she has specialised her knowledge in from the outset of her continued education to become an educator and teacher.
Emma’s careers prior to founding the consultancy that she now leads, she worked in primary school education, traversing teaching and leadership roles, all whilst developing her expertise in the educational and curriculum needs of children with autism.
As an educator Emma has flourished in a rich and varied career. With over 20 years spent teaching and working in a wide range of environments including PRU’s, Hospital schools, Special schools and Mainstream education.
Emma describes herself as having a passion and purpose in supporting SEND education, a path that evolved resulting from her professional and personal Journey. Emma’s belief is that people’s uniqueness and abilities can, with the right support overcome barriers and difficulties.
In the conversation that unfolded, Jade and Emma discussed Emma’s career in education, the upward trajectory that included senior management, head of specialist provision and fosu on children with educational needs and autism.
Whilst also talking about Emma’s path to motherhood, the reevaluation of what would work with the balance of having become a parent and the multitude of lessons that she has learned since deciding to go her own way with the launch of her consultancy.
Emma’s path to entrepreneurship has been an inspiring one and her candidness about having to learn about business and how to operate one along the way is a call to action for anyone who is on the cusp of going their own way, who may be putting taking the leap off, because they don’t yet have the experience in business they believe they will need to move ahead.

On this week's show, Jade had the pleasure of sitting down with Chris Whatling, Founder of the Animal People Recruitment Company and life long-advocate of animal welfare.
Chris’s career as you will hear on the show, started out with a lot of variety and as Chris explains mixed starts and mis-directions when it began.
Yet thanks to the combination of self exploration, Chris’s keen self-awareness and openness to opportunities as they presented themselves, Chris found his career being directed towards the world of recruitment. A world that over time has transformed his career from misalignment to flourishing and becoming the catalyst to going his own way.
The Animal People Recruitment Company, launched by Chris in 2021 is the culmination of Chris’s decades long career in the recruitment business and his lifelong passion for animals and animal welfare.
A true start up, at less than twelve months old, Chris’s business has set out to not only make a notable difference to people whose careers are spent in the animal related industries. But to also make a strong stand for social good and charitable giving, by making a dedicated charitable commitment to the industry it plays a part in, working closely with Birmingham Dogs Home to support, raise vital awareness of the work the Dogs home does & participating in regular giving.
In the show you will hear Chris’s journey that started out navigating the challenges of his formative years. Through his coming to understand more of what lights him up and truly inspires him over time.
The Animal People Recruitment Company has, as many business start-ups are for first time founders, become the pinnacle of Chris’s career so far.
One where in an incredibly short amount of time, has enjoyed so much success, whilst at the same time, has been filled with lessons about self confidence, learning from his mistakes as he goes and the difference he wants to make in the world.
Chris is candid, refreshing and inspiring in his honesty, where he shares not only the details of his journey to reach where he is today in his career. But also the aspects of his life that have taught him the value of being his brilliant and true authentic self.

In our first episode of this season, Jade will be hosting a solo show to explore the routes available when going your own way. If you find yourself, like many aspiring entrepreneurs and creatives out there, still in a position of employment then this is the show for you.
Side Hustling is often touted by many life coaches and start-up business gurus as being the surefire and safer bet to becoming a business owner or full time creative.
