A podcast about everything and nothing happening at the Kartause! Your hosts Mary Krolicki and Haleigh Dickerson talk about the best and worst of the week, some passionate HOT TAKES and an occasional guest star!
THE WEDDING SPECIAL!
Live from RD Wyatt’s wedding. It’s Mary Haleigh and the new Peiserts. Note Wyatt getting asked for cake and then later chewing on a wine cork during the recording. Also isn’t it obvious that Leah and Wyatt are made for each other based on their mutual love for jingles?!
Big shoutout to fr. Bruno Cassidy who is forever our sponsor due to his prayers from the monastery.
We love you all.
Note the Kissinger's were in attendance but could not take comment at this time
Our final episode!
Mary and Haleigh are in the car, filming during Haleigh's visit to Gaming! Highs from the new Spring 2023, including Jonah Kane - the man, the myth, the legend. Low including accidentally going to Germany. Brian Kissinger does get a shout-out, duh.
We talk about all the feels of going back home at the end of the semester. How we and others have done it well and have done it horribly. Cause sometimes going home is the biggest culture shock you've had during the whole study abroad experience.
HOT TAKE: Be ok with the nostalgia of Gaming. Think about your semester before you go home! Frannies - ask people how Austria was & actually listen.
It's been a while but we didn't forget you Fall 2022!
Haleigh and Mary filmed a bit live (ish) from Spring 2023, but we never got a chance to say "tschüss baba" to our friends from the fall. So here's a brief update on where we are and what we are up to over here in Gaming! Plus YOUR rapid-fire hot takes - some hotter than others. Some related to Gaming - some not. Most from Pat Hardy - some not.
We miss you Fall 2022. Thanks for the memories!
Here we are. Filmed the week before thanksgiving, we talk about the impending turkey celebrations, the travesty that was the housing fair, and closing time by Semisonic.
The hot take this time around comes from a place of pure expertise via Mary and Haleigh. We’ve been some places, we’ve seen some things, and we’ve taken a lot of forms of transportations to get there.
Do Americans just hate public transportation because we aren’t use to it? Planes, trains, automobiles?
HOT TAKE: Public transportation is better for the human person’s experience.
This is basically a big public service announcement to console Haleigh about her broken dishwasher. Just kidding. We talk about the Christmas tree and the holiday cheer that is amongst us in the Kartasue. As well as a nice little shout out to our maintenance king Martin Mika. This may not be a hot take per se… but we have some fun things we want to share.
This has been in the works for over a year, buckle up.
HOT TAKE: Graphic tees in Europe.
For all those waiting in eager anticipation…here’s Mary and Haleigh’s hot take and advice on why you should date in Austria. Big idea here - be open the spontaneous, that’s where God is. We talk about meeting the Pope, Taylor Swift and Wi-Fi issues (that are getting resolved). A guest opinion from Brian Kissinger.
HOT TAKE: don’t lead them on, ask them out.
Here we are for one of our favorite episodes yet! RD Mary and GA Haleigh talk about Clare L. getting her luggage back finally, the new umbrella in the courtyard and corn. But the real juiciness of the episode is the hot takes where we hit the streets (really just the outside the chapel after Mass) and hear what YOU the people of Fall 2022 think about the age old question: should you date in Austria?
Also a few guest appearances from some faculty and alumni!
We are cookin’ on a part II of this one, so come tell us your opinions… especially if you disagree with this majority.
HOT TAKE: You shouldn’t start dating in Austria.
Another episode that may not win us more friends.
Shoes. No shoes. For some reason this is a debate at Franciscan university of Steubenville. We argue the rest of the world kinda has a grip on when to wear shoes and when to go barefoot, but sometimes there needs to be some further clarification for us Frannies. There is a time for all things - a time to be barefoot and a time to have shoes on… let’s explore them together.
Are shoes are little jails for your feet though?
We’re back for season 3! Haleigh and Mary kick off the fall 22 semester LIVE from Stift Melk. We chat about our first impressions on the student body, coffee (again) and social media. This is one of our favorites y’all.
Hot take: Get off social media this semester.
Sponsored by Nick Jacobson.
To cuff or not to cuff? This is the question of pant fashion these days. In America and sometimes in Europe. But Haleigh and Mary aren’t necessarily fashion gurus so we brought in Sebastian Garzon and Nick Kissinger to bring us the heat for this hot take. We also discuss what really is classified as a jogger and the differences in European and American style.
Hot Take: Men, a one-roll-cuff on pants shows you care about your clothes just enough.
“I love food, I love everything about food, I love food”- Sister Philomena Clare
We are talking everything food this week, with the expert herself. We talk about our Easter celebrations, including some fire hazards, and a lot about chocolate. Sister is often brought to tears because of food. Why you ask? Well Jesus loves her that’s why. Food is communion. Communion can be found in food. Budget and experience food in whole abroad. Guten appetit!
HOT TAKE: You should spend your time, money and effort on food.
Mary and Haleigh are back it again, we know you've missed us! Hear about Haleigh's tumble of a lifetime down the un-even stairs and Mary slippin' on egg whites. But most importantly...
BREAD and GRANOLA! What is the proper way to eat these fundamental elements of the Mensa?? We discuss Spring 2022's feedback on the bread (ball, swirl, loaf) and the granola (chocolate, strawberry, raisin) +/- yogurt. Lots of shoutouts to the people of note in this podcast: Michelle Kwan, the John Pyles, Fr. Dave Pivonka (who apparently really loves this podcast), and Nick Kissinger who really hated on Mary's apple salad.
Friends from previous semesters, we'd love your feedback on these Mensa food hacks #inspo. Reach out if you got ideas (mkrolicki@franiscan.edu)
HOT TAKE: How to properly eat the Mensa food staples. Mary and Haleigh disagree on granola - is it or is it not cereal?!?!
Alumni, musical star and seminarian, the real Patrick O’Brien visits us on the podcast this week! Patrick will teach you some Greek and senerade you with his very own jingles. He also surprises Mary and Haleigh with his own hot take for them to discuss… the word every Franny loves to use (sometimes too much?) discernment. Also hear Haleigh’s hair clip break and Mary scold her at 00:52.

HOT TAKE 🔥 it’s dangerous to over complicate and over spiritualize discernment.
Sr. Mary Petra, T.O.R. joins us to lay down the beats and truths about Lent. She shares some great tips on how to decide what to fast from and how to pronounce “synodal”. Mary attempts to rap. Haleigh gives us the long and short about the Holy Land registration rollercoaster.
HOT TAKE: You should fast on Sundays and stop making excuses this Lent.
Haleigh and Mary come to you live from outside San Rufino, in the beautiful city of Assisi. We did go to a FOP immediately following this podcast, and we were late.
Hear some of the highlights and lowlights of the beginning of the semester, specifically our pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi. Including shoutouts to Pope Francis himself, and Marcus the bus driver. Our hot take this week asks the hard hitting questions...are random places that great to visit? Is the hype about unhyped things overhyped? /why are you even travelling, bro?
HOT TAKE: Travelling to ~Random~ Places just cause they are ~Random~
Quite possibly the HOTTEST take yet - we all see it, we all have opinions, and we're saying it. When are Public Displays of Affection appropriate, especially when in Jesus's house? Never? Sometimes? Always? Plus Haleigh shares a true life hack on how to eat Oreos, Mary talks passionately about chips and salsa, and student guest star David Pivonka is the worst of the week.
Bonus: if you count how many times Mary says the word "like" she will give you a prize.
HOT TAKE: PDA in the context of Church
Special thanks to all the couples who have inspired this Hot Take.
New year new season! Welcome to the very first episode of Season 2 of 11th Trakt! This episode Haleigh and Mary are joined by their fellow co-workers AND friends (? ) Wyatt Peisert and Isaac Cassidy. See why Paula Deen, satchels and SCOBYs are all discussed in the same sitting. GET HYPED FOR A GREAT SPRING SEMESTER BARONS!
HOT TAKE: Is the Fall or the Spring semester better?
Special thanks to Isaac "Just the Maintenance Man" Cassidy and The Best Male RD in Gaming, Wyatt Peisert!
THE Brian Kissinger joins Haleigh ad Mary as we discuss the best and worst moments of the whole Fall 2021 semester. Hot takes from the great students (+ one surprise staff) include some of the hottest of the hot, and some, arguably lukewarm. Warning: this might make you miss us and the Kartause a lot, or have major FOMO if you weren’t here.
Big thank you to everyone who shared their hot takes. And Brian Kissinger, that man doesn’t quit and we have mad respect for him. For more from BK: https://open.spotify.com/album/4S7xXhDtmfC016m4AY0qWb?si=ljRQo5bdRbaA4yRXrsgzhA
This episode was recorded before the sun came up. Mary and Haleigh, both very sleepy, discuss the lockdown in Austria, why this isn’t Fr. Daniel’s favorite podcast (but it should be), the lack of Thanksgiving music and Mary shares a secret.
HOT TAKE: is Christmas music before Thanksgiving licit?
Happy Thanksgiving from the Kartause family to yours!!!!
Welcome back party people! This episode features Haleigh and Mary talking about Miley Cyrus for a hot second, paying for all your train tickets, and Haleigh killing a small animal. Ft. Max Salamida as the worst of the week. He's not the worst...just his story.
HOT TAKE: Slightly Immoral Situations.
s/o to Max Salamida for recording this worst of the week truthfully weeks ago, but here it is.
P.s. we forgot to follow up about the karate chop winner…. IT WAS CHEF MARCO!
Haleigh and Mary sit down with The Director-of-Something-Important-in-Steubenville, Bob Lesnefsky. Bob just so happened to be at the Kartause, so we were able to sit down for a quick laugh with the legendary human himself.
During this episode we talk about people being attractive, how household should / could operate in Austria, and Haleigh's eyebrows.
HOT TAKE: Households in Austria
The jingles are here! Shoutout to Stephen Gontis and Isaac Cassidy.

SPOOKY! Haleigh and Mary discuss the hype surrounding the spooky stories of the Kartause. Eye witness stories from the incredibly credible Dr. Hass and Evy Honan. Also of note - Mary's dental issues and fun timez with the parents.
HOT TAKE: Is the Kartause Haunted?
Happy Halloween, All Saints and All Souls days!!!
Thanks to Michael Rechen - find him on Spotify.
And Maria Khym, she did spell trakt wrong but we love her.
The wait is over!!! Haleigh and Mary welcome you to a podcast about everything Kartause related.
In this very first episode you'll hear our amazing singing jingle, Mary's horribly inaccurate explanation of what a TRAKT is, and Haleigh's very basic Christmas coffee order.
HOT TAKE: Coffee
A very special thank you to Michael Rechen for his editing and recording skillz.
Artwork by the very talented Maria Khym.
