A safe community where imperfect people can grow. Didn't catch us on Sunday? No problem! Listen to our sermons here...
This Sunday is Father's Day and we will have our third and final message in our Counter Formation Series: Sexuality and the Gospel. This week's focus is on young people.Young people are the future of our church and our city. Numerous factors are forming them including friends, school, and technology. As a church, we want to guide our children, youth, and young people to be formed by Jesus. On Sunday, we will be teaching on how we can raise our kids to be resilient disciples of Jesus in an age of iPhones, extra curricular activities, and a cultural moment where the common narrative of sexuality and gender are in opposition to the way of Jesus. Let’s catch a vision of how to raise up the next generation to love Christ and His church, and how to reach the world.
This Sunday we continue in our Counter Formation Series: Sexuality and the Gospel. Last week we explored sexual ethics, and this week we will learn about sexual minorities.First, we will focus on what the Bible says about people with same-sex attraction.Second, we will explore what "belonging" looks like at Grace Church for these people. There are stories of people being hurt by churches because of a lack of clarity or a "bait and switch." At Grace, we believe clarity is kindness. It is an act of kindness to let sexual minorities know what they can expect when they walk into our church doors.Third, we will challenge the rest of the majority to learn how to be a better spiritual family and love people who are same-sex attracted at Grace. We deeply believe we should strive to be a Gospel community full of grace and truth to those in our North Park neighborhood.
This Sunday begins our three week summer series Counter Formation. Our theme this year is Sexuality and the Gospel. The series will speak to sexual ethics, sexual minorities, and what it is like for young people to grow up in our cultural moment. This Sunday we will discuss what sexual ethics are in general. We will answer questions that point to God’s design and vision for sexuality. This series will attempt to balance truth and grace. It is designed to challenge, bless, and cause reflection for each person. The tone of the series will be honest, raw at moments, filled with compassion, with clear calls for all people to submit their identity, behavior, and sexuality to Christ. This will be a PG-13 sermon series. Parents with children under the age of 13 should pray if you think it is appropriate for your kids to be in service. If you decide you would like your kids to participate, we support your decision.
Happy Memorial Day weekend! It’s quite fitting that we finished the book of Acts last week and will commission missionaries from our church this week. We can think of it as an Acts 29 of sorts, a story that continues in our day. This Sunday, we have the honor of commissioning the Jacobs family to Guatemala and hosting the Hope of Life Founder and CEO at Grace Church. We will share a sermon and testimony of how the Lord is working in Guatemala already and how we can join in.
This Sunday is the last week in the book of Acts! Can you believe after 15 months, we did it!
As we look at Acts 28, we will see that this story is so much more than the story of the early church, it’s also an invitation to every church through every generation. It’s a story that sparks future stories and ushers us in to what’s possible. We, too, can be a spirit-empowered people who live in Gospel Community. We, too, can be sacrificially generous and walk in wisdom and power. We, too, can have impact for the Kingdom of God in our day. We have the same Holy Spirt and can experience the same power.
We are nearing the end of the Book of Acts and Paul's journey. This week we walk through the action-adventure story found in Acts 27 as Paul's sea voyage to Rome takes a dangerous turn into a shipwreck. The weather poses a great threat on the journey, but through it, an Angel of the Lord visits Paul and encourages him with a message that he, as well as everyone on the ship, will survive.
This week we are in Acts 24 where Paul gives a defense before Felix the Governor. The sequence of events is fascinating and heartbreaking. Here’s the story: Felix listens to Paul speak publicly and is intrigued and gracious; then, he seeks a conversation with Paul privately where he is afraid and offended. From this point on, Felix decides he will call for Paul when it is convenient for him. After two years, Felix hears the message, but never decides to surrender to Jesus.
In a western world designed for comfort and ease, this story serves as a warning for all of us: the message of Jesus, and the person of Jesus is not, nor has ever been convenient. As strong as this sounds, it’s actually good news.
We are a missionary people who follow a missionary God. God is on a mission, through His church, to help people receive Christ, be discipled, and care for the needs of the world.Grace Church has strategic mission partners around the globe. One such partner is Spectrum Ministries who serve the poor and marginalized in Tijuana, Mexico. Hundreds of people from Grace Church have gone with a team to serve across the border in the past few years with Spectrum.
Last Sunday was Easter and it was amazing to see God move through worship, a powerful message, and 46 people getting baptized! This week, we as a staff team have been celebrating God's blessing through Easter Sunday!
This Sunday we are back to the Book of Acts! We will go through Acts 22 where the Apostle Paul addresses a hostile crowd by giving his testimony of how the Lord transformed and saved him. Through his testimony, we learn about ours and how to leverage our story for the glory of God.
We’re taking a week off from Acts and looking at the most well known and misunderstood bible verse in the world: John 3:16. This verse is printed on the bottom of In-N-Out cups and Forever 21 bags, and featured on The Simpson’s and Saturday Night Live. But does the world know what it means? In one verse we get the whole story, and by God’s grace this Sunday people will surrender to God’s love and God’s gift of life. Join us in praying that new believers and old believers would trust in Christ's sacrifice.
On the church calendar, this Sunday is historically known as "Palm Sunday," commemorating the day Jesus rides into Jerusalem. In a sweet moment of providence, we have a similar story in Acts 21 of the Apostle Paul going into Jerusalem. The parallels between Jesus and Paul in this week's passage are fascinating. Both of them walk boldly into their fates trusting God to care for them and to be with them. They serve as a model for us of what costly obedience looks like.
Over the last few weeks we’ve been following the story of the church in Ephesus. The Gospel transforms the city so much the Temple of Artemus struggles to make money on idols. After three years of planting and pastoring the church, Paul is compelled by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. So, in a final act, he calls the elders together and gives a farewell address.
This Sunday we learn about what modern day idols are. They aren’t little statues made of wood or stone. They are much more subtle in our post modern society. Join us as we examine a passage in Acts 19 that shows us how Paul turned the city of Ephesus upside down when he told them that, "gods made by human hands are no gods at all."
