Welcome to the St. Andrews Jezebel podcast! we have a special guest joining us: Justin Buxton, one of the new owners of Little Village. Justin shares with us the story of how this beloved restaurant got started and what he's learned along the way.* Fins on the Beach started in 2009 and opened up in St. Andrews in 2012, inside the small Little Village. The space was about the size of a food truck. Justin and his wife Karen started with a simple idea - to spotlight the fish taco. At the time, they couldn't find any place in the area that served fish tacos. So they decided to fill the void in the market and create their own spot. * Justin developed all the recipes for the menu himself. His inspiration came from his love for fresh food and bold flavors from his travels in the Caribbean and his Cajun roots. He wanted to create something unique and flavorful that would stand out from the crowd. While there have been some specials throughout the years that came from the ideas of employees, the basic menu was created by Justin himself. * Justin talks about the challenges of running a restaurant. It's not just about cooking great food - it requires attention to detail, from managing employees to taking care of paperwork and bills. Justin admits that it's a lot of work, but he believes it's worth it because of the community they've built. They've created a small, grassroots business that keeps it simple and fresh while making a positive impact on the community.

If you're curious to hear more about the history and evolution of Little Village, make sure to tune in to the full podcast episode. You'll learn about the recent addition of a full barista bar and smoothies, as well as the construction of a Palapa on the back deck for live music events. Don't miss out on the magic of Little Village - support local businesses and visit them today!Justin talks about the history of Little Village and Fins, the taco stand that started it all. He also discusses the inspiration behind the food and how the menu evolved over the years. Justin also shares his experience of running a restaurant and the challenges that come with it. This week Ashley meets Kevin Elliott, the co-founder of Wewa Films. As the Covid-19 pandemic raged, Wewa Films officially began its business journey. Listen to Kevin tell the story of how he reconnected with former student Courtney Gaskin after he discovered an online video she produced using footage from a Mumford and Sons concert she had attended. To Kevin's surprise, it was Courtney's first video, and neither had any intentions of working in the film industry at the time. Kevin was blown away by Courtney’s talent and he had always been a creative at heart. . He knew that with their combined creative mentalities and his business experience they could collaborate and build a business that would tell stories that would be valued. After a couple of years the two teamed up and Wewa Films was born. The company has worked with organizations such as Tyndall Federal Credit Union, the Children’s Advocacy Center, Gulf County Florida Tourism, HCA, Gulf Coast Hospital, Florida's Northwest and McDonald’s.

Wewa Films is the first paid ad sponsor for The St. Andrews Jezebel Podcast. I am excited for you to hear their story, and learn about their dreams and upcoming projects.

Stay tuned after the interview to learn how you can enjoy some time in St. Andrews.

x=Did you know the major of St. Andrews is a Dog? And not just any dog! Every year the market at St. Andrews hosts a contest and fundraiser for the local animal rescues. Leading up to the event local pet parents can enter their dog in the contest to become the salty dog major of St. Andrews for a one-year term. Salty locals can cast their votes for the dog they'd like to see as the major for $1 per vote and the funds go to support the rescues. This year the winner is Socks, a senior chihuahua, and rat terrier mix. His mama Crystal ford is an animal rescue advocate and volunteer, and she is also is involved with the Historic St. Andrews Water Front Partnership community involvement community.

This Sunday is Sock's 14th birthday at The Taproom from 12-4. Not only is this a celebration for our major but, it is also a fundraising event for several local animal rescues. This is a special bonus episode I hope you'll also tune in on Thursday for episode 42 which features Charles Segrest of The Krewe of St. Andrews to talk about A Taste of St. Andrews which is a fall seafood festival that will be happening this Friday and Saturday at St. Andrews Marina.

Episode 39 features Lois Carter of Kaleidoscope Theatre in Lynn Haven Florida. In 2018 the community theater was completely destroyed by Hurricane Michael. Since then the rebuild is not complete and the volunteer organization is still without a building. This has not stopped Lois or her fellow volunteers from making a positive impact on Bay County. Lois and volunteers are currently tasked with raising the funds to complete the construction so that they may continue to create the magic they are known for since 1970. Lois is a vibrant supporter of the arts and is locally known as the ultimate cheerleader.

This week The St. Andrews Jezebel Podcast features an interview segment with local creative Chase Pospichel. When he was in middle school he was pressured to complete an assigned poetry assignment. That's when he knew it was time to answer the creative call. After years of experimenting with contrasting art mediums Chase has evolved into a gifted singer-songwriter who performs regularly throughout the region.

This week’s episode features community happenings for the week of July 15th-21st. As well as fun things to do in St. Andrews at no specific time.

Its a known fact that St. Andrews is a wonderful place to live, work and play but there isn't enough housing. Yes, many houses have been repaired or rebuilt entirely since Hurricane Michael back in 2018 but this area does not have enough houses or any hotels to accommodate the large number of people who want to be here. So this week’s old news segment is an example of how history repeats itself. Its called “Hotel Needed, Also Houses” and was published in the St. Andrews Bay News July 17th 1923.

Chase is debuting his original song "On A Wire" on our YouTube channel today. You can check it out here

This week the St. Andrews Jezebel Podcast welcomes Sandi Wolf who is the owner and founder of The Little Village. A popular venue for locals and visitors in historic St. Andrews and greater Panama City Florida. Not long after vacationing in 1978 Sandi knew St. Andrews was special. So she never left and has been a treasured part of the community ever since. About 11 years ago Sandi purchased commercially zoned property on Lake Ware and that is where the story of Little Village begins. In this episode Sandi tells the story of her business's humble beginnings selling fair trade treasures from Costa Rica, rebuilding after Hurricane Michael in 2018 to the latest addition an authentic Palapa Hut built by native artisans. Little Village is a special place to relax, have a cold drinks, enjoy Caribbean style grub , support live music and participate in feel good shopping.

"I've always had an eye for the unusual" -Sandi Wolf

One of the best things about St. Andrews is that you can see live music every day! That's right there is live music being played somewhere in St. Andrews seven nights a week! Fortunately my friend Ken Shaffer creates and publishes a weekly schedule for St. Andrews as well as most of Bay County. Ken's spread sheet schedule is updated often when there's any changes. Ken also shares individual music events and is walking the walk and talking the talk when it comes to supporting live music. Not only does Ken supply the music schedules but he attends several music performances a week and takes fantastic photos of the musicians. As a working musician myself I feel blessed to have Ken and his wife Donna as treasured members of our local musical family. Make sure you like and follow Ken's page Salty Sounds in St. Andrews and Oh Boy Music on Facebook so that you'll always know where all the live music will happen.
