The Sian Podcast

Hello friends, you are listening to the Sian Podcast. The name “Sian” is basically Asian without the A. I am your host Shanshan, or as in Mandarin姗姗.

I am a first-generation Chinese immigrant. As I experience moments of happiness, sadness, realization and sometimes frustration in my own life, I’m often amazed by the stories of people who I met along the way.

Each of us came to this country with different kinds of expectations and aspirations; we took on different paths as we stumbled upon unknown challenges and opportunities; and we eventually found ourselves in places that we didn’t plan for.

Sometimes we feel like we are getting closer to the reason why we started, but some other times we might see ourselves drifting away from where we initially headed for.

As we battle with the loneliness of living in a foreign country now we call home, fighting for the sense of belonging and acceptance, searching for the meaning of life, we can’t help but ask ourselves, who are we? Where is home? What are our dreams?

This podcast, The Sian Podcast, puts the spotlight on the first-generation immigrants from China and let them share about their stories over a cup of tea.
