Original 5/17/2022: Now in color! And a bunch of weird ones at that! Slightly less weird than some of the albums I listened to but your mileage may vary!
Update 9/22/2022: For any of you that have noticed I've been experimenting with the color grading on these videos (only sometimes successfully!), here's a video where I go into a little more detail about it since I feel like I've arrived at an okay spot with it (see: DaVinci Resolve). Then there's a little more inside baseball about the (now) old and new logos for Ryan Runs followed by a trip down music memory lane featuring the unassailable album choices that led up to the first punk rock record I ever heard: Pennywise's Unknown Road.

Allow me to clarify that in this video I talk about 1) the functional (and psychological!) reasons for the infrequent nature of these videos lately, 2) how the Daily Drum series has helped with that, 3) there's a Rock Band customs scene??? and 4) stay tuned for a Ryan Runs Redesign courtesy the one and only Brandin of "this Patreon" fame!

Original 1/21/2022: It's a good thing I do a bit of housekeeping up front otherwise I might've stepped on some of the LEGO talk from the second half of the video zip zingaroo thank you goodnight
Update 9/22/2022: So much housekeeping: Patreon changes, Let's Play explanations, and stream dreams, but eventually I start spilling my LEGO guts and would you believe it gets strangely philosophical? (welcome to Ryan Runs!) Luckily I do also talk about some of my favorite actual LEGO sets from over the years, and believe me when I very sincerely ask: what are yours?
Oh, and if you really want the unsatisfying inside scoop, the "mysterious shaving transition" came about because I didn't initially like how the video ended so I did something I've never done before or since for any of the Ryan Runs stuff: I re-recorded the conclusion later that night. Usually I just record everything all in one session, then I don't have to worry about forgetting and shaving my stubble off in between sessions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update 9/22/2022: Of course by "classic music" I mean The Bouncing Souls (you know, "classic" like Christmas music. A Christmas music joke), so I go through a bit of my history with their music before launching into a big smiley sidebar about the new Roland TD-07KX V-Drum Kit that I had recently (finally) purchased using the universal excuse: "Costco had a sale!" 186 Daily Drum videos later and I'm a very weird and specific kind of "good" at the drums that any actual professional might not enjoy!

I have since written 4 episodes (I'm splitting the first into two) and captured a bunch of... gameplay, but the red sea that is my schedule hasn't quite parted enough for the rest to pass through (where's my Time Moses? Update 9/21/2022: An episode of Ryan_Runs_ where I talk about Tetris was "bound to happen," that is, so why not start with the time I met the original creator of Tetris Alexey Pajitnov (good guy) and he signed my poster of Tetris Ultimate (bad game). The "Factor" part comes from the... "fact" that I also spend half the ep talking about my read through the original X-Factor books (#1-12), which was eventually interrupted by a bunch of Eternals comics, which was also interrupted by my current Moon Knight binge. And you thought the Tetris bit was the nerdy part!

Original 10/20/21: Welcome to 1992!
Update 9/20/2022: Again I wish I knew what my aversion to actually informative descriptions was at the time, but here's the 3rd of what will eventually be 6 episodes (and some change) of the series I created to take a look at some of the collectibles I've cornered over the years, starting with all those Marvel cards on the top shelf of my hall bookcase. Again it's part-personal part-product history, and it's a lot of fun looking back, but searching out the stories behind the sets themselves has definitely been the best part. Original 10/11/2021: Here goes everything...
Update 9/20/2022: Obviously the hope with that cryptic-yet-wholly explanatory description was that people would go check out the Patreon where I do go on at length about the what and why of it all, but I can see how it might still be helpful to know that this was the beginning of me trying to create an entertaining and/or informative-if-not-educational channel about my life and likes with family and friends (as it now says on some of my social media). We're coming up on the year anniversary and I have this (Ryan_Runs_), Chasers, a couple Let's Plays, 184 Daily Drums, Gameplay (soon!), and our first livestream (just last week!) to show for it, which might not seem like much, but I'm hoping that's just because I always wish it was more. So hopefully you'll stick around while I work on just that: more!

Original 10/1/2021: There was a time when skateboarding was about as nerdy as reading comics, for example: me.
Update 9/20/2022: So I branch out into talking about a bit of my past with skateboarding by way of that one time I attended the premiere of Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, followed up by my recent reading of the Daredevil storyline "Fall from Grace" (#319-325) and Avengers Forever (which I did eventually finish and enjoy to the end). It's about skateboarding being nerdy, by the way, it it wasn't just my particular brand of being nerdy, it was just still viewed as counter culture in a mostly "bad" way by the "in" crowd. Lots of qualifying quotes there, and all I experienced was the tail end of it in the 90s before the X Games exploded everything, but the rivalry was real.

Update 9/19/2022: Don't ask questions you already know the answer to and enjoy some words on Katamari Damacy (Reroll, technically) and Asura's Wrath (I would also play the remaster), both of which continue to be at the top of their own categories that they invented out of thin air. I'm thinking sooner or later the Gameplay series is going to have to feature some episodes of me just talking about games again, like this, because not telling everyone about games like these especially seems like the worse way to go.

Update 9/17/2022: ...by the which I mean "the beginning" of the 1990s comic book cards craze, but Chasers is also the beginning of me producing something a little more crafted than usual. It's still down the middle, you'll get me and my experiences mixed in with all the research and sources, but it's all a bit more focused than Ryan_Rambling_ on about some games for 30 minutes. Update 9/17/2022: I agree with myself, Control is a very good video game, and the New York Times crossword puzzle app continues to be the New York Times crossword puzzle app... now with Wordle! (and yes my little family also plays Wordle every day) Looking back this ep marks the beginning of a shift for the Ryan Runs channel – the first episode of Chasers is about to come out and by Ryan_Runs_14 you'll notice an even steeper decline in the amount of games talk overall. The Gameplay series will mostly "fix" that (out soon!), but it's pushed these mainline episodes into more interesting and inventive areas (hopefully), so buckle up?

Update 9/17/2022: I didn't originally post this trailer in the podcast feed, but I also didn't originally set out to make a trailer at all – I just figured I'd talk about some "Marvel Cards" for a minute and call it a day. 1 year later and Season 1 is still ongoing (I probably should've waited until it wrapped before I started writing episodes for season 1 of Gameplay), but I can already say it's been one of funnest things to put together for the channel. Update 9/17/2021: Calling something a "toilet game" probably isn't very nice, but I'm referring to those games that don't occupy all of our attention in the moment, games that maybe aren't the first thing we're doing but the second, so let's call them "Number Two Games" instead. I'm about to overthink overthinking it but it's because these games exist at the very border of "should I take a break or find an even smaller way to keep my brain going right now" followed immediately by "is it actually keeping my brain going or is it so rote as to be worse than nothing now." At least in this case I feel like thinking about it is a saving grace, otherwise I'm just the Candy Crusher, the Farm Villager, the DC Legend himself.

Update 9/17/2022: The other thing you can do if your descriptions are unnecessarily vague is just make the media itself full of nonsense information and bingo problem solved! By the way if you are viewing the video versions of these you can tell I was experimenting with shooting in s-log and applying LUTs and color correction after the fact, and you can tell because some of these look real bad. Sometimes if you stare at something long enough it starts to look normal, which normally works to my advantage but this time it just looks like the colors are all washed out. I did slowly get better at it until finally I switched to doing everything in Davinci Resolve, and let's just say it... resolved 90% of my issues wink wink wink wink wink

Original 8/5/2021: Spec Ops is short for "Special Oops," spread the word.
Update 9/16/2022: Hey that might be the most helpful description I ever gave back then! It doesn't exactly communicate that this is maybe the deepest dive I've ever done on any game, but it's a start. The video itself isn't exhaustive or alone in its analysis (again I'm shooting for something of a middle-ground with most of my work), but looking back at it I think it's one of my better examples of explaining what can make a game rise above the sum of its parts, and why that kind of craziness is interesting to me. Or, like I said originally, "Special Oops."

Original 7/1/2021: Let's get the word out about Call of Duty, but just the ones nobody cares about anymore!
Update 9/16/2022: You know, when I originally made this video I had forgotten just how hated Infinite Warfare was by some people (the reveal trailer was the second most disliked video on all of YouTube within two weeks of being released, and got up to 3.99 million dislikes total before YouTube stopped surfacing that number altogether), not that it changes my opinion in the slightest, but it was probably worth a mention! This video also marks the first time I used the current intro song "Here's to Us" from The Bouncing Souls, my continuing and profuse thanks to them for not sending me a takedown or copyright strike just yet.

Original 6/16/2021: 4 more games, 4 more chances to say I love you.
Update 9/16/2022: LEGO Jurassic World, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Outriders, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition are the games in question, although Sayonara is the only one I'd profess my love to. The others I just kinda, you know, LIKE like at best.

Original 3/11/2021: It's not your fault, I've played four more games.
Update 9/15/2022: ...four more games by the name of Phogs, Overcooked All You Can Eat, Spiritfarer, and Donut County! So yes, it's obvious by now that my gaming habits are changing, not that I didn't play similar games before, but it's becoming most of what I play. Blame it on COVID, blame my daughter for getting older, hey blame ME for getting older, but I've always been pretty purposeful about what I play. Doesn't mean it hasn't been the wrong purpose here and there, but nowadays I'm feeling better about it than ever.

Original 3/3/2021: More games, more words!
Update 9/15/2022: My gosh it's like I'm using LESS words to describe things as time goes on. Still talking about games, this time it's Death Squared, Tetris Effect, Hotshot Racing, JoyRide Turbo, and D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, and obviously I was really beginning to like trying to add one word from every game into the podcast title. Sure, adding that apostrophe S was a real failure but what can I say, I'm a slave to syntax.

Original 2/23/2021: Is it that I won't stop playing or that I won't stop talking? Yes!
Update 9/15/2022: In the which I talk about playing the games Human Fall Flat, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and Star Trek (Xbox 360). Was that so hard? Not as hard as finding a soundalike for Minor Threat which, as you can see, I did not. The YouTube version still has the original song I used but doing that earned it a copyright strike, so enjoy this much more legal version wherein I use some generic punk song from Artlist – I'm goin' legit this time around!

Original 10/3/2020: By the time I figured out what was happening it was too late and I had played enough games to record one of these things.
Update 9/12/2022: I have nothing to lose by letting you know this episode is about Yoku's Island Express, Overcooked 1 and 2, Moving Out, Worms, and Golf with your Friends... all by way of Team17 game publishing, which somewhat unsurprisingly also had a story to tell. Evelyn and I just played some more Moving Out last week actually, and Overcooked All You Can Eat just had an 8 gig update I have yet to check out, so I guess I do still play some games after all...

Original 8/20/2020: Let's figure this out together!
Update 9/12/2022: Again not sure why I went with that completely uninformative description rather than mention that I was playing all of the Streets of Rage games for the first time with my daughter Evelyn (and what exactly were we going to figure out together?), but it remains clear that I was still very interested in talking about games. BUT, this time I was also having a lot of fun researching and talking about the history behind the games as well, and this has basically been where I've landed ever since. There are so many articles and videos about everything already, from shallow spiels to the very deepest of dives, so I've found my spot somewhere in between with mid-level overviews that are mixed with my own personal experience. Hopefully it works out!

Original 7/30/2020: This continues to happen!
Update 9/10/2022: I didn't write very helpful descriptions back then did I? I guess the title explains a lot, but these ended up being some easy games for Evelyn and I to have fun with, and I even remembered a couple from the arcade proper so it was twice as fun trying to explain to her what that was like a million years ago. "You see, back then you had to leave your house if you wanted to play the fanciest of video games, there simply wasn't a home computer powerful enough to run behemoth games like Captain Commando and Knights of the Round." Still a great collection btw, and I had a ton of fun reading up on all of them.

Original 7/13/2020: Hello, Ryan here, I have returned to inform the world that Apple Arcade is a thing that involves other things, some of them are games, and that's about as timely as the takes get around here!
Update 9/9/2022: Coming from 0HITPOINTS I definitely thought this was going to be mostly about games, and that was more-or-less true for about 13 episodes, but it's also probably the biggest change as of late: I don't play many games now. When I do it's with my family (Evelyn and I just wrapped up LEGO Harry Potter) or it's for a project (episode 1 of Gameplay incoming!), but other than that I've had to cut back to focus on, well, THIS. Don't worry, I still think way to much and deeply about the games I do play, so there won't be any shortage of that weirdness around here, and that might as well be the tagline for the entire project!

If you like migratory experiences then you're going to love how I slowly but surely move all of the Ryan_Runs_ podcast episodes into this shiny new feed, and with any luck I'll throw in some updates and retrospectives along the way that will bring the entire project into better focus!
