Do you ever feel like the day is running you instead of the other way around? In midlife, that kind of chaos is draining. What you need is a daily routine that gives you structure, energy, and confidence — without being complicated or overwhelming.

In this episode of Live Your Best Midlife, I explain how to create a healthy daily routine that actually fits your life. Instead of vague advice, you will hear practical, real-world examples of what a strong routine looks like for four different lifestyles:

  • A teacher with early mornings and limited breaks
  • A nurse working long, unpredictable shifts
  • A bank or office professional with a 9 to 5 desk job
  • An empty nester with more flexibility but less structure

You will also learn the four simple anchors that every routine needs: hydration, movement, protein, and rest. Jill shares how to stack habits on things you already do, why you only need one non-negotiable to start, and how to adapt your routines as seasons change.

If you are tired of survival mode and ready to feel more in control, this episode will show you how to build a daily routine that reduces stress, boosts energy, and works for your actual life.

Skinny is everywhere again. From the headlines about GLP-1 medications like Ozempic to celebrities showing off dramatic weight loss, it feels like we have been thrown back into the 90s diet culture.

But here is the truth: skinny does not equal healthy, and for women over 50, chasing skinny can leave you tired and weaker.

In this episode of Live Your Best Midlife, we unpack why it is time to ditch the obsession with skinny and start focusing on building strength. We explore:

  • The cultural swings from “heroin chic” to body positivity to today’s GLP-1 skinny trend
  • Why the old advice against undereating and losing weight too quickly seems to have disappeared now that there is a pharmaceutical involved
  • How muscle helps you look better in clothes and out of them, with the tone and shape skinny can never deliver
  • Why strength training is the true fountain of youth, boosting metabolism, protecting bones, and building confidence
  • Simple ways to reframe your goals so you can track progress that actually matters

If you have ever been tempted to chase skinny, this conversation will empower you to redefine what success looks like in midlife. Strong beats skinny every single time.

We made it to episode 100, and to celebrate this milestone, I invited a very special guest... my husband. Yes, the same man who’s never listened to a full episode (😅) is finally joining me on the mic.

We’ve been married for 28 years... despite a 12-year age gap, wildly different upbringings, and totally opposite sleep schedules. We’ve raised three kids, moved into the empty nest phase, bought a Florida house for our 25th anniversary, and somehow… we still really like each other.

In this candid episode, we chat about:

  • How we met and navigated the early years of marriage
  • What it’s really like being married to a fitness & nutrition coach
  • How we’re similar (and very different)
  • Our parenting philosophy, empty nest reflections, and what we’ve learned
  • A lightning round that reveals who’s more likely to survive on a deserted island

Whether you’re married, single, divorced, or even in a “second act” relationship, we hope this convo feels like a peek behind the curtain—and reminds you that love in midlife can be deeper, funnier, and more solid than ever.

If you’ve ever found yourself spoon-deep in peanut butter or snacking on random bites at 8PM, I made this episode for you.

Today, I’m giving you a little tough love (with a lot of heart) about why those evening cravings keep showing up—and why it has nothing to do with willpower. The truth is, most midlife women aren’t eating enough during the day, and we’re putting our own nutrition dead last.

In this pep talk, I’m sharing:

  • The real reason your body is screaming for food at night
  • How being “too busy” to eat is wrecking your hormones and metabolism
  • Simple ways to plan meals that leave you nourished and satisfied
  • A mindset shift that could change everything about how you see food

Plus, I’m walking you through my favorite go-to meals, batch cooking tips, and how to stop eating like a college kid on the run.

In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Jaime McAuliffe, a perinatal chiropractor and founder of Your Family Chiropractic in Kansas City.

Jaime specializes in caring for women during pregnancy and postpartum, but her approach goes far beyond the adjusting table... supporting the nervous system, hormone health, and whole-body wellness through every stage of life.

Jaime is also a birth doula and I couldn't wait to talk about her experiences with home births.

We talk about:

  • What perinatal chiropractic care actually involves
  • Why alignment matters—even if you're not currently pregnant
  • Non-toxic living made simple: easy, affordable swaps for your home
  • How chiropractic care benefits newborns (yes, babies get adjusted too!)

In today’s episode of Live Your Best Midlife, I’m joined by my friend Kristen Bayer, who has taken on an incredible new role as the Circuit Clerk of Williamson County in Marion, Illinois.

What’s remarkable about Kristen’s journey is that it was a role she never saw coming. But as she puts it, it was truly a "God thing," and it’s been one of the most fulfilling and transformative experiences of her life.

This week, I’m pulling back the curtain on a pretty wild DM I got: a brand offered me free GLP-1s (you know—Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro) in exchange for promoting them on Instagram.

In this episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes of my unforgettable weekend back in South Bend, Indiana, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Notre Dame Pom Squad. I danced for the Irish from 1993 to 1996 — and captained the squad my senior year — so stepping back onto the court for a halftime performance brought back all the memories (and yes, a little bit of muscle soreness).

But this weekend was about more than just reliving my college days. It was a powerful reminder of the magic that happens when you put yourself out there, embrace vulnerability, and allow yourself to step away from your day-to-day responsibilities. I’m sharing why it’s so important to make space for fun, why missing a kid’s game or letting your spouse take over isn’t a bad thing, and how doing things that make you a little nervous can reignite your confidence.

If you’ve been craving a girls' weekend or wondering whether it’s “okay” to do something just for yourself, this episode is your permission slip.

Tune in to hear:

  • What it was like performing at the Notre Dame vs. Pitt basketball game after all these years
  • The unexpected benefits of reconnecting with old friends and past passions
  • Why stepping away from mom mode can make you an even better mom
  • How putting yourself in uncomfortable situations leads to personal growth

Welcome back to Live Your Best Midlife podcast. Today's episode is all about vitamins and supplements for midlife women. We're diving into the complex world of nutrition and exploring what supplements might benefit women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond.

We'll start by discussing my current supplement regimen, including Vitamin D3 with K2, Vitamin C, B complex, Magnesium Glycinate, Creatine, BCAAs, Collagen, and Hydrobeef protein powder. I'll explain why I take each of these and how they might benefit women in midlife.

Next, we'll take a closer look at some key supplements: Omega-3 fatty acids, CoQ10, and Resveratrol.

We'll discuss their potential benefits and why they might be particularly relevant for women in this life stage. We'll also address the elephant in the room - calcium.

I'll explain why I've chosen not to include calcium supplements in my routine and discuss the current research and controversies surrounding calcium supplementation.

We'll touch on some trending supplements like Nutrafol, ARMRA Colostrum, and AG1, examining their claims and whether they might be worth considering.

Practical advice is on the menu too. We'll cover when to take certain vitamins, whether they need to be taken with food, and the different types of magnesium supplements available.

Remember, supplement needs can vary greatly from person to person. We'll discuss the importance of consulting with healthcare providers before starting any new supplement regimen and how to ensure you're purchasing quality products.

Join me for an informative discussion that aims to clarify the often confusing world of supplements and help you make informed decisions about your health.

Today I veer way off the track with an episode on raising financially independent kids.

I know, who do I think I am? A financial advisor?

I almost titled this episode: I'm not a financial advisor but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Or how about: I'm not a financial advisor but I do sleep with one every night. ;)

Money is a touchy subject. And my circumstance may not be applicable to your life and family. So fair warning, this episode isn't for everyone. But I do know that money can be a huge cause of stress in our lives. Even though we want to help our children (young and old) as much as we can, we owe it to them to teach them about financial freedom. And believe it or not, it's a better gift than paying for their gas or cell phone bill indefinitely. ;)

Listen to the episode and let me know if you agree!

Welcome to Pep Talk & Pickleball. In today's solo episode I discuss why whole food nutrition reigns supreme.

Reducing your intake of ultra processed foods is such a game changer in my clients lives. Within a week or two clients are amazed at the increase in energy and vitality. They have mentioned how their joints feel better, their skin looks better, decreased bloating and even feel more satiated with their food intake.

If you feel like you are doing all the things when it comes to eating less and exercising more, it may be time to start looking more at the quality of your food, than the quantity!

Welcome back to another episode of Pep Talk & Pickleball.

In early April I posted an Instagram reel titled, "how to lose a size by Memorial Day" and it seemed to get a lot of buzz.

So I thought I would use this opportunity to go deeper into each of the eight things I recommended and why. You know, social media is all about short form videos to grab your attention, but I much prefer long form social media like this podcast so I can fully explain the how AND the why!

I am hosting an informational session on my FASTer Way to Fat Loss coaching program LIVE via Zoom on April 25 at 7pm CT/8pm ET and I would love to save you a spot! If you have ever felt frustrated that you are doing all the things, but you can't seem to shed the inches in your midsection, this would be a great information session to attend!

My husband and I closed on our "snowbird" home on April Fools Day 2022! It was a wild ride... real estate in Southwest Florida was flying off the shelves and we actually bought our home after it was on the market only 24 hours and we only saw it via video tour! We put a lot of trust into our Florida agent, Daniel Maguire, and he helped us close on the home we love.

I thought it would be fun to bring Daniel on the podcast to explain the current 2023 housing market in Southwest Florida, plus give you the 411 on all the different communities and home options in the region.

If you have ever thought about retiring in Southwest Florida... this is the episode for you!

It's not often that Southern Illinois (known as Little Egypt) is ahead of the curve on trends... but it seems that pickleball has been the exception! Our small town communities have been early to embrace pickleball and we even have our very own USA Area Pickleball Ambassador, John Hubbs.

  • the growth of the sport in Southern Illinois
  • the health benefits (including his own 40 lb weight loss) from playing pickleball
  • where to play in Southern Illinois
  • equipment for beginners

Unfortunately we have been taught in order to lose weight it's all about restriction and burning calories... but there is more to it! https://www.fasterwaycoach.com/#jillblewis

Today's Pep Talk takes a more serious turn because I'm discussing the death of my dad.  I am the first to admit I've led a pretty charmed life and had not experienced grief like this until December 2020.  I knew nothing about true grief.  So I wanted to talk about it here on my podcast to normalize what it feels like to grieve a parent.  No surprise that fitness and nutrition played a huge role!

(25.35) In the "Let's Talk Pickleball" segment I'm answering questions from my Instagram followers all about my favorite topic, pickleball!

In today's Pep Talk I am discussing the importance of sleep!  In my early forties sleep became elusive.  I was so tired during the day but wide awake at night.   When I became a FASTer Way coach I realized that so many women were experiencing the same thing!   And I also learned why sleep is so important for a weight loss journey.  I've been working on my sleep for the past five years and here are my favorite "hacks" to get a full night of sleep.

Drinking and cussing... Who am I to judge? ;)

In today's Pep Talk I explain how I'm not judging anyone on drinking adult beverages but I've recognized that for my own health journey I've had to limit my alcohol intake to (ideally) two nights a week.  I explain how alcohol is absorbed in the body, how long it stops fat loss and how to track your macronutrients while drinking alcoholic beverages.

(20:38)  In the "Let's Talk Pickleball" segment I share how a cusser tries not to cuss on the courts.  Spoiler alert:  It's not easy!

I absolutely love group fitness classes... the energy, the friendships, the motivation... it's all there. But are you getting the body composition results you want? As we age (over 40) our workouts must change with us. We can't get by with the same skincare regime or sleep schedule, so would we think our workouts don't need to change? ;)

In today's Pep Talk, I explain WHY your group fitness class might not be working and WHAT you can do about it... Have you heard about progressive overload? It's not just for body builders.

I am also giving you ideas on how to improve your nutrition to really lose fat AND gain muscle tissue.

My next round of the FASTer Way begins Monday, January 30. Six weeks of learning how to implement these strategies I speak about in this podcast! It's about working smarter, not harder. You can register here: https://www.fasterwaycoach.com/#jillblewis

(19.20) In today's Pickleball segment I'm talking about the ladder league I'm playing in and how I'm currently at the top of the ladder. Can I hold on? ;) Plus I rant about the lack of cute pickleball clothes for women. Link to the skirt I bought this week: https://rstyle.me/cz-n/hhhmw2dkfd7

While interviewing Sarah L. Cowart I couldn't stop thinking... I needed her while I was in college twenty something years ago!

Sarah has worked with thousands of students as they balanced the transition from high school to college. She knows it isn’t easy. She's been there. And on top of that, she was a collegiate student-athlete. There isn’t a quick fix or even a magic trick that will make everything a walk in the park for your student. But she can give them the tools and strategies that will help them be successful in the classroom. She is passionate about seeing students achieve their potential. The team at Your Academic Coach believe that ALL students should have the opportunity to be successful from any seat in the classroom.

I have a FREE Workout for you pickleballers out there! Actually it's a great workout for anyone looking to feel more coordinated in all planes of motion. When we play pickleball we find ourselves moving quickly forward, sideways, diagonally and backwards. I've seen several players fall down. Did you know that losing fat over forty requires some new strategies? The way you ate and worked out in your 20s and 30s may not be what your body needs now. I'm a 49 year old fitness and nutrition coach so I completely understand the frustration that can come from trying to get lean after 40. But it is possible to feel and look your best through peri-post menopause! Here are my five tips I'm giving you today:

  1. A workout that leaves you drenched in sweat and exhausted may actually be causing you to STORE belly fat.

  2. You are probably under consuming protein.

  3. Reducing (NOT eliminating) adult beverages.

  4. Eat more whole foods (less processed).

  5. Carbs are not the enemy.

In the "let's talk pickleball" segment (18:34) I'm discussing what past time I practically gave up this summer so I could play more pickleball.

Are you new to pickleball? Or have you been playing a lot of pickleball but feel a little slow? It definitely requires some quick reflexes and coordination. After watching several falls this summer, I created a FREE workout designed for pickleball players. This workout helps you get used to moving in all planes of motion in a controlled environment. If you are not used to moving laterally or backwards, this is the workout for you! Plus it will get you in great shape and help you feel confident on the courts.
