We provide the resources, time, and love for families to stabilize after becoming homeless. It is a scary and traumatic time for them. We calm their fears and give them reasons to hope. Our Emergency Shelter Program provides shelter, food, and compassion through staff and a loving community of volunteers. We see it as a holistic solution to end family homelessness.
Family Promise supports the entire family including: children through daycare assistance, school, in-house play spaces, and nearby Boys & Girls Clubs activities. It maintains a sense of normal family life that kids crave. parents who, knowing their children are safe and cared for, can focus on their goals: to secure employment, save money, and search for next-step housing. Our social services empowers families to quickly graduate and move on. pets, who now officially count among the homeless population. They get get their own food and shelter right alongside their human family! Without such a service, families would either live in their car to keep their pet or surrender it to an animal shelter.

A small town on the east side of Oahu. I was an athlete at the University Hawaii where I majored in Kinesiology. I moved to Scottsdale in my early 20’s when I was offered a job on the fire department. I worked just short of 22 years as an Engineer/Paramedic on all the busiest trucks in the city of Phoenix. I got into vitamin therapy thanks to an awesome doctor showing me the field 13 years ago where he let me run his clinic.
I have a beautiful daughter named Kumiko who is 10 and one in heaven named Leinani.
My passion is Jiu Jitsu where I enjoy teaching kids and my daughter in the evenings 5-7 pm on the weekdays. I love to fish and enjoy surfing, working out and the ocean.

Oakley’s Oath was founded after Julie and Maury Kessler’s family lost one of their beloved dogs, Oakley, to an accidental drowning in 2021. The Kessler family was having work done on their roof, and the contractor had placed a lightweight, clear plastic tarp over the pool, and when Oakley went into the backyard, he fell through the plastic and drowned. Unfortunately, the Kessler family was unable to save Oakley in time.
While the Kessler family cannot bring their dog back, Julie has made it her mission to take their experience and turn it into a safety initiative for other homeowners with pets and small children. “We aim to educate homeowners and businesses about keeping pets safe when repairs are being done at home,” Julie said. “We’re basically trying to inform people to be cautious and communicate with the contractors in your home.”
Small children and pets are the most susceptible to preventable accidents when work is taking place in the home. Contractors, sometimes unknowingly, disrupt the normal routine of the house, and introduce new elements that may distract or grab the attention of a pet or child. Although homeowners typically ask basic questions of their contractors, like when the project would be done and how much it would cost, there should be more details on the safety of the family.
It is Julie’s goal to spread the mission of Oakley’s Oath, and have homeowners and contractors everywhere be more aware of the changes and risks that are brought to a home when work is being done, especially with small children and pets in the home.
Oakley’s Oath strives to protect children and pets from avoidable accidents by providing contractors and homeowners with common sense guidelines that keep everyone safe.

About Laureen: After serving on the Treasure House Board of Directors for three years, Lauri Tanner was asked by Brenda and Kurt Warner to transition to the CEO position in November 2018. Lauri has more than four decades of experience and success in the healthcare industry serving as a registered nurse all the way up to CEO of a pediatric bridge hospital for medically complex children and their families. As CEO, she was responsible for managing all aspects of the hospital’s operations, from inpatient and outpatient care to administration, fundraising, and so much more. “I realized that I am most fulfilled as a leader when my personal mission takes care of not only the person needing care, but their family, too,” said Lauri.
The hospital is where she met Brenda, who was a volunteer and later, a member of the Board of Directors. “Brenda recognized my leadership, passion, commitment to my work, and heart for caring for those who are often overlooked,” said Lauri. “From start up to sustainability, I am grateful for the opportunity to blaze the trail for Treasure House. I will do anything it takes for our residents to fulfill vibrant lives, and I love seeing each of them develop as independent adults who amaze their parents with what they’re able to do on their own.”
To get the full Treasure House experience, Lauri resided at the unique living community for nine months and loved every moment. “The main lesson that I learned at Treasure House is that everyone can reinvent themselves if they are willing to put in the work.” Lauri hales from St. Louis, Missouri, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing Service Administration from St. Louis University.
She enjoys golf and all sports, cooking and baking, hosting resident pool parties at her home, and needlepoint in her down time. She is a proud mother and pet owner. Co-Founders, Jackie Parks and Ariel Schwartz, proudly announce the expansion of the popular and community-based pilates studio, The Workshop Pilates.
The second location comes to North Scottsdale in April 2023 at 18211 N. Pima Road in DC Ranch. The brand-new, 1,800-square-foot location, will feature a group pilates room with eight, top-of-the-line, Balanced Body reformers, and a separate private room with two reformers. North Scottsdale will additionally operate with 45 classes per week taking place to enjoy and experience signature MOVE, CIRCUIT, ELEVATE, and MELT classes.
