In this episode of Exemplary Vegetables, Rachael and Elizabeth hate on Willoughby for overstaying his welcome and being “with liquor”. They also freak out a bit that HIS WIFE wrote his replies to Marianne! Who does that?

Elinor forgives Willoughby instantly. (Again, who does that) but Elinor is living her best life and doesn’t want his gloomy married shadow lurking over their family.

Mr. Palmer is home, where his mood improves to the point where he’s only mean sometimes. He’s giving off Country Mouse/City Mouse vibes. Also, Rachael and Elizabeth think he’s an owl. It makes sense if you think about it.

Colonel Brandon saves the day… of course he does! That’s why he earns our spot for Exemplary Vegetable of this episode!

In chapters 35-40 of Jane Austen’s Sense And Sensibility, we learn all about Fanny and Mrs. Jenning’s various grievances about basically everything. Robert (toothpick guy) meets everyone, snubs everyone, and is mad that someone moved his living room toothpicks. Lucy Steele’s secrets are OUT, and everyone is in a tizzy!

Mrs. Jenning’s offers her household staff to her cousins, leaving us to wonder why our cousins aren’t giving us butlers. Anne and Nancy Wilson fight with Lucy, and refuses to trim her bonnet ever again. Or until the next day when she gets over it.

And Rachael and Elizabeth play the game: Who Wrote It? Taylor Swift Or Jane Austen? You’ll want to check it out!

In chapters 30-35, of Sense And Sensibility, Robert Ferrars tells Elinor she needs to smile more. Elinor says “Bye Felicia”. The end.

Oh gosh, so much in this chapter! Marianne, in despair is pining away from Willoughby who is getting hitched to some rich lady that probably doesn’t like him very much. Elinor needs to stay quiet as Lucy Steele flaunts her secret engagement to Edward, and we see a battle of the mean girls between Mrs. Middleton and Fanny Dashwood.

And we’re here for it all. Especially Robert Ferrar’s toothpick holder. That, and Elinor’s “living room scissors” would make our IKEA trip almost complete!

In chapters 26-30, of Sense And Sensibility, we find the Dashwood sisters traveling to London with Mrs. Jennings.

And then we have the aftermath of the Dashwood sisters traveling to London with Mrs. Jennings. It didn’t QUITE turn out the way that they thought it would. Marianne, is eagerly anticipating a reunion with John Willoughby, but Willoughby's behavior towards her is about to drastically change, causing her much distress.

Willoughby returns Marianne’s letters and her lock of hair from our new online hair jewelry shop: Victorian Whispers. The nerve of that guy! Imma break your heart, return your hair, and marry a lady I don’t love that’s superior in every way to you.

On this week’s episode of Exemplary Vegetables, we read chapters 20-25 of Sense And Sensibility. We didn’t watch any of the Emma Thompson movie because it didn’t match up. Next week, we’re excited to bust out the movie recap!

Elinor and Marianne are confused, heartsick, and headed off to London soon to grab their husbands. Willoughby is WHERE? And Elinor’s crush is… secretly engaged? Oh the drama!

Will Elizabeth choose Elinor Dashwood (again) for her “Exemplary Vegetable” of the chapters? Will Rachael ever get over the hair jewelry featured in every single episode?

You’re in for a Sense And Sensibility treat this week! We dive deep into Edward’s choice of hair jewelry and how he did NOT use the living room scissors to cut Elinor’s hair.

We discover that Marianne Dashwood owns her tears, and that both Elinor and Marianne have had ENOUGH dinner parties. But alas, the Jennings family have a special treat in the form of Charlotte and Mr. Palmer.

Have you ever gone out with a couple and decided you needed to bail… immediately? That’s how we feel about Charlotte and Mr. Palmer. They’re not OUR people.

Also, speaking about being too peopley, check out this episode and our PATENT PENDING idea to politely let people know, “I have had enough people.”

Do you have a locket of someone’s hair “just in case” you need their DNA? Well, Willoughby does! Willoughby whisks Marianne secretly away for an afternoon delight… just kidding, he just gave her a horse, a gift that Elinor makes Marianne decline.

All this romance comes to an end, however, when Willoughby remembers that he’s got to marry up, and Marianne with her defunct cottage and no-horse having poor self. So cue the waterworks. Everyone needs a tissue due to Willoughby booking out of there.

And let’s not forget Rachael’s favorite, Col. Brandon. He threw a party in order to ditch everyone. What are his secrets? Apparently, Mrs. Jennings will winkle it out of him too!

Welcome to "Exemplary Vegetables," the podcast where two lifelong friends, Elizabeth and Rachael, dive into the world of Jane Austen. In this episode, we embark on season 2 of our podcast, with the first five chapters of Austen's timeless novel, "Sense and Sensibility."

Join us as we navigate the lives of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, in a society governed by propriety and the clash between sense and sensibility. Elizabeth and Rachael, who affectionately pretend to be sisters just like the Dashwoods, bring their shared love for Austen's work and their unique perspectives to the table.

In these initial chapters, we witness the Dashwood family's trials and tribulations following the death of their father. We explore the complexities of inheritance and the Machiavellian influence of Fanny Dashwood, John's calculating wife. Also known as a “B-word”.

Entails are hard on the Dashwoods, as they cannot inherit any part of their estate and are left penniless. Marianne personally hugs every tree on the estate and says, “Entail we meet again!”

Oh, and Hugh Grant? He’s just a boy standing in front of a script, begging Elinor to let her horse help in the kitchen. If that makes no sense to you at all, you’re going to want to listen to this week’s episode of the Exemplary Vegetables Podcast!

We’re back after a week off - because life. We missed you!

This week on the Exemplary Vegetables podcast, Elizabeth and Rachael discuss Chapters 46-49 of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and watch the 2005 version of the film from 1.31:05 – 1.35:47.

It’s the action-packed Austen podcast you’ve been waiting for. Will there be fighting between Wickham and Mr. Bennet? Will Mr. Bennet slap Wickham across the face with his glove and challenge him to a duel? There’s some serious scallywaggery happening!

When you have a family emergency, it’s always interesting to see who comes out to help. Mary Bennet “Mary-splains” about sisterly consolation and wishes Lydia paid attention to Fordyce. Mr. Collins told EVERYONE about Lydia’s betrayal and wishes her death (WHAT). But it’s Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner to the rescue, earning their spot as our MVP, or Exemplary Vegetable of the week.

We’ve moved beyond Magic Mike and grown as professional podcasters to bring you a Pride And Prejudice - Goonies crossover. Yes, our beloved Goonies, who also might have trouble at Pemberley in the sculpture room. IYKYK.

Join us this week as we see the softer side of Mr. Darcy and get to know Georgiana Darcy. She’s NOT a snob. Wickham, you jerk. Love is in the air for Elizabeth Bennet, she just doesn’t recognize it yet.

Our Elizabeth’s debts are settled with Rachael from last week’s chapter recap game. Rachael was just as surprised at all the Amazon packages arriving as Elizabeth Bennet was to receive Mr. Darcy’s letter. And OH BOY what a letter. Over here at Exemplary Vegetables, we love a good apology, and Mr. Darcy’s letter does not disappoint.

Elizabeth Bennet’s instagram caption would read something like, "Just received the most eye-opening letter from Mr. Darcy and my mind is blown! The truth behind Wickham's deceit and Darcy's actions have completely changed my perspective 📝 #PrideAndPrejudice #AustenAdventures #ClassicLiterature".

Join us this week and discuss Elizabeth Bennets confusion over realizing Mr. Darcy DOES have a soul.

This week on the Exemplary Vegetables podcast, Elizabeth and Rachael discuss Chapters 27-34 of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and watch the 2005 version of the film from 52:17 – 1.13:19.

Rachael and Elizabeth decided to play a little game this week to cover 8 CHAPTERS OF THRILLING ROSINGS PARK content. And since that big football game just happened last week in Rachael’s town of Phoenix, we placed a little wager on our chapter recap. You’ll have to tune into this week’s Pride And Prejudice podcast to see which sister owes the other sister a hefty debt. This is a game that Mr. Wickham would not have enough pounds to enter, and Mr. Collins would be eliminated in round one.

Also, who can resist all the Lady Catherine De Bourgh highlights? We are positive that, just like her love of music, she would delight in our Exemplary Vegetables podcast should she choose to partake. We also have Mr. Darcy’s SHOCKING profession of love for Elizabeth Bennet. Worst. Proposal. Ever.

This week on the Exemplary Vegetables podcast, Elizabeth and Rachael discuss Chapters 24-26 of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. What does this have to do with Magic Mike you might ask? We’ll be glad to tell you. NOTHING. It has nothing to do with Magic Mike. But Elizabeth likes Magic Mike almost as much as she likes to make Rachael uncomfortable, so she tries to make it work (It doesn’t, but it’s really funny).

What you WILL learn about is all the broken-hearted ladies of Longborne. Will Jane admit that her heart is smashed into a hundred pieces by Mr. Bingley? Or will she continue with toxic positivity? Will Elizabeth decide Wickham is “the one” that will dump her first as her father suggests?

Get your tissues, pj pants, and pints of ice cream ready for the Pride And Prejudice pity party right here on the Exemplary Vegetables podcast.

This week on the Exemplary Vegetables podcast, Elizabeth and Rachael discuss Chapters 18-23 of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and watch the 2005 version of the film from 33:59 - 52:17.

This week, we get to know more about our beloved Mr. Collins. That’s right, the bachelor you love to hate, the reason why Elizabeth Bennet will from now on speak to only one of her parents, and the best awkward ball guest we’ve ever seen. “You brought HIM?”

We also see the Bennet family each having their own experience at the Netherfield Ball, much to the dismay of Mr. Bingley's sisters. And if you're watching the movie with us, we see THAT part. The most beautiful dance scene on film.

Why Pride And Prejudice in Haiku form you ask? You’ll have to listen to find out. Were Rachael and Elizabeth inspired by last week’s Fordyce’s sermons, or are we just plain lazy. Either way, it’s hilarious.

Get ready, Jane Austen fans! Starting on Tuesday, January 3rd, a new podcast will transport you back into the Regency period. A time when you would purchase a new bonnet, ride a donkey while picking strawberries, and lament that you are only a “barely tolerable dance partner.”

Why is this podcast called Exemplary Vegetables? If you know, you know. If not, you’ll find out in our first episode. But listener beware. You might quote Jane Austen in random places, leaving your audience bemused. In that case, tell them to listen to the podcast too. It’ll be a PAR-TAY like Mr. Bingley has rarely seen!

Elizabeth and Rachael discuss Jane Austen’s collection of novels, beginning with Pride And Prejudice. Would you rather study the film adaptations? (Hello, Matthew McFayden, looking at you) They’ll do that too.

Join us Tuesdays as Elizabeth and Rachael bring bonnets back and try to determine which of them is the “good and accomplished sister” that can paint tables, cover screens, and net purses.
