In a powerful tribute to the heroes of 9/11 and a celebration of Rowlett's own first responders, we take you behind the scenes of a remarkable & profound public art installation. Tune into this touching episode as we unveil the story behind the new 9/11 memorial sculpture at Fire Station 2 in Rowlett.

Your host, Hannah Rabalais sits down with a couple of key stakeholders who made this memorial a reality. We have the privilege of interviewing the talented artist behind the sculpture, Jonathan Millet, who shares his personal connection to this honorable profession and what motivated him to create this work of art.

We're also joined by two members of the Arts and Humanities Commission, Deborah Crosby & Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Winget who provide insights into the selection process and the significance of public art in fostering appreciation for local culture and heritage.

And, to bring us closer to the heart of the matter, Chief Neil Howard of the Rowlett Fire Department offers his perspective on the enduring impact of 9/11 and the importance of honoring both the fallen heroes of New York City and the steadfast commitment of Rowlett's firefighters.

This episode takes you on a journey through the sculpture's symbolism, its profound connection to 9/11, and the local spirit of resilience it embodies. Learn about the intricate details, including the 343 cutout Maltese Crosses, each bearing the name of a firefighter lost on that fateful day, and the bronze cast firefighters representing unity and service.

As we prepare for the public ceremony on September 9, 2023, at 10:30 A.M., we invite you to explore the heartwarming and profound story of a small city with a big heart, coming together to remember, honor, and celebrate the brave souls who run towards danger when others run away.

Join us for this touching episode and discover how art can serve as a powerful reminder that "We Will Never Forget 9-11-01."

Rowlett has submitted a petition for membership to the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD). A “customer” agency since 1965, Rowlett is one of 14 cities and 16 utility districts that are non-member water wholesalers. Rowlett is the largest of these customer wholesalers, in terms of water usage, and would be the 8th largest water user among the member cities of the NTMWD.

Water is essential for the quality of life we enjoy in North Texas, is critical for businesses to operate, and is necessary for public health and safety. Over the past few years, the City has taken several steps in an ongoing effort to structure this utility to meet the needs of EVERY Rowlett citizen and business. These included tiering the rate structure; replacing the daily-calculated base rate fee with a monthly flat fee; and launching the AMI system to give residents access to hourly usage information. However, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that the costs continue to increase – across North Texas, everyone is experiencing the ever-increasing price of water.

A key goal for this Council, Rowlett has long desired to be a member of the NTMWD and now is the time. Rowlett deserves to have a seat at the table and the opportunity to participate in the policies and practices that impact Rowlett residents and businesses. Learn more by listening to this podcast!

Mayor Margolis is talkin’ trash. Rowlett's current solid waste contract expires in September 2024 and the City is beginning the process to contract our next provider.

View the Mayor's Spotlight Newsletter: www.rowlett.com/mayorsspotlight

Like so many others in the service provider industry, solid waste companies have been severely impacted by the economic conditions resulting from the pandemic. From labor shortages to fuel costs, to equipment and vehicle replacement issues – the impacts have resulted in a shift and providers are no longer offering the high level of services, such as unlimited bulk pick up, we currently enjoy at a price point equitable to our current rates.

The City of Rowlett is interested in hearing about what YOU consider important as we proactively begin the process to contract our next solid waste service provider. Services and pricing will change so we want your opinion on the services that matter most to you.

We’ll have several opportunities for in-person input and a bit later this month an online survey will go live.

Three sessions will be held at the Rowlett Community Centre:

Tuesday, October 18 9:00 A.M.

Wednesday, October 19 7:00 P.M.

Thursday, October 20 7:00 P.M.

Share your thoughts with us - your input will help inform the services our community receives with our next vendor!
