It is a common sight to see a handful of people walking on foot in different directions in the morning in Gulu town.
But as the sun sets in, you can see them disappear to the outskirts of town.

To many ears in Northern Uganda, the sound of guns may have fallen silent after 23 years of violent campaign led by Joseph Kony and his brutal rebel force, the LRA.
But to hundreds of young women who were abducted during the peak of the insurgency and were forced to become ‘wives’ to rebel commanders and their fighters, the war yet is far from over.
At least 500 children are diagnosed with cancer every year at the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI), according to 2018 figures by the cancer institute.
There is a projection of 5,000 children with cancer across the country, which is about 10 per cent of what is received at the cancer institute.
The commonest cancers in children currently are brain tumors, leukemia and lymphoma.

According to data from World Health Organization, globally close to 800,000 deaths resulting from suicide are recorded every year.
This translates into one death every 40 seconds. Uganda takes the 68th position in terms of suicide prevalence at 9.9 percent, according to the WHO 2018 estimates.
