Eric Goranson, CKD is a Certified Kitchen Designer with the National Kitchen and Bath Association for over 20 years and has been designing since 1993. Nationally recognized as “Eric G®”, he is a syndicated 10-year home improvement radio talk show host. Eric talks with homeowners and contractors about remodeling and new construction techniques every week. He is also a national podcaster and is now heard internationally and with about half of the listening audience being from the building trade. His shows draw great support from the contracting community. Eric also hosts the Around the House “Pro Insider” podcast that is for the residential building and remodeling professionals.

After a few false starts at college Bob found architecture school and it was good. Time consuming and expensive, but good. After graduation, Bob headed for the hills of Vermont, worked for several architectural firms and spent six years as a carpenter before becoming a licensed architect and starting his firm. He lives in a little house with a big barn, lots of woods, a wife, two kids and assorted animals.

Michael Maines designs homes and renovations that follow the Pretty Good House approach. He has a BS in structural engineering and has worked as a building contractor, carpenter, building science consultant and operations manager at a panelized building fabricator. Erich Kruger
Erich Kruger has been in the building trades since 1997 when he was teaching carpentry in Antigua, West Indies as part of the Peace Corp/Crisis Corps. In Vermont he has worked for several general contractors and on his own. In 2005 he founded the non-profit ReNew Building Materials & Salvage, and has consulted with, and later ran, the deconstruction program at Finger Lakes ReUse in Ithaca, New York . He holds a degree in Wildlife Management & Environmental Ethics (minor).
Erich is happiest when he is diverting building materials at a job-site in the company of other like-minded conscientious deconstructors, or on the wood floors of a local contra dance with his family. He lives in a straw bale home he built with ecological features, including solar electric, solar hot water, composting toilet, and masonry wood heater/oven.

Most of our work consists of renovations and additions to existing housing stock in eastern Massachusetts. We prefer to work along with the client in the design process, which allows us to help the client realize their vision for their home and allows the client to participate fully in the process. We guide clients through the process of choosing their build team and ideally work closely with the contractor while construction is underway to minimize challenges and stress during that time.
While we are primarily a residential design firm, we also consider the entire property, including inside and outside of the house. The living exterior informs the interior. The wall is a lens through which we perceive the world. Landscape design includes the hardscape and permanent structures of a site as well as the appropriate trees, shrubs and perennial beds. I am especially interested in the landscape during the dark and cold half of the year.

Peter Yost is the person you turn to if you want to truly understand how buildings work: their design, specification, construction, performance assessment. He brings more than 30 years experience in building, researching, teaching, writing, and consulting on high-performance buildings. His expertise ranges from construction waste management and advanced framing to energy efficiency, indoor air quality, moisture management, and building durability.
Peter has provided this building-science expertise to leading building industry high performance efforts, including USGBC’s LEED for Homes and REGREEN, EPA’s WaterSense, DOE’s Building America, and IWBI’s WELL programs. "Ross Weinreb has been an Instructor of Architecture at Penn State since 2010 and the Stuckeman School Career Adviser since 2016. In 2004 he received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech where his undergraduate thesis project investigated pop culture and its influence on recreational building typologies. In 2012 Ross received his Master of Architecture degree from Penn State where his research explored the various approaches for teaching professional practice in undergraduate schools of architecture.

While designing and building his own low-energy, high-performance home in the lovely seaside town of Rockport, Massachusetts, architect John Rockwell became a Technical Sales Engineer with Zehnder America, the North American branch of the Swiss-based manufacturer of energy-efficient solutions for a healthy and comfortable indoor climate.
Since 2014, John has delivered hundreds of presentations at architecture firms, engineering offices and trade shows. He has designed almost 1,000 whole-house ventilation systems with heat recovery.
John received his Bachelor of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and his Master of Architecture from the University of Miami. When not happily immersed in building science in general and the Passive Houses in particular, he sings and plays guitar in his roots/Americana band known as HEADLANDS.

Born and raised in Taos, New Mexico, Molly found herself yearning to move out of state to attend College. She first moved to San Francisco to attend the University of San Francisco, where she fell in love with Architecture. Here she realized, in order to pursue her career, she needed to transfer to a school with an established architecture program; so, she returned to the Land of Enchantment and graduated from the University of New Mexico with her Bachelor of Art in Architecture. After undergrad, California was still beckoning, so she moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California, where she received her Masters of Architecture. All the while, during her secondary education, she toured Central America, North America, and Europe. The experience of living in and traveling to other places has played a significant role in her understanding of design and her style of Architecture.
Molly also grew up around construction. Her father was a contractor so, from an early age, she was exposed to the building process and finds that it is one of her favorite parts of architecture. Understanding construction also exercises a “problem solving/solution finding” muscle that is an integral part of design.
Over the last decade, she has worked on everything from temporal architectural installations, design competitions, educational, medical, custom residential, multi-family residential, and institutional projects. All scales of architecture excite Molly and she likes the challenge of moving amongst different size projects.
Currently, Molly is thrilled to be living and working in the state that she grew up in. She finds endless inspiration in the landscape and the culture unique to New Mexico. Practicing in a state rich with natural beauty and history, inspires her to create architecture that reflects the environment and will similarly stand the test of time. Mixing the historical architectural language of New Mexico with the modern amenities of contemporary design, Molly is exited to develop her style and express herself through the buildings she creates.,

A Portland native, Peter earned a BS in physics and engineering from Brown University and is a veteran advocate for effective and equitable climate action. He is an EN-ROADS Climate Ambassador and serves as the Citizens' Climate Lobby Portland Co-Chair, Grasstops leader and liaison to Senator Angus King (I).
Don Parent is a consulting engineer with a longstanding concern about our collective lack of action on climate change. A Lewiston native, he has engineering degrees from Northeastern and Stanford with a focus in the thermosciences. He is active in the Citizens’ Climate Lobby and strongly supports pricing carbon as the most effective means to reduce emissions.

Michael grew up on an old farm in central Maine, learning practical skills and spending a lot of time working and playing outdoors in woods, fields and water. During high school he became interested in timber frame construction, where the skeleton of the building is expressed with large timbers and traditional all-wood joinery. He knew he wanted to design and build beautiful, natural, expressive homes for a career, but was torn between going to college for architecture, engineering, or another field. He chose to attend Tufts University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with a minor in Architectural Studies, graduating with honors and with an award for entrepreneurial achievement. He had spent every break during college working as carpenter or woodworker, and used his savings and award money to buy an old Volvo station wagon and some tools, and spent the next several years working as a fine woodworker, carpenter and contractor all over New England, mostly in Cambridge and Nantucket, MA.
Michael and his wife-to-be decided they would move from Somerville, MA to Portland, ME in August of 2001. The events a few weeks later hastened their move, and in early 2002, Michael found a job as a drafter at a respected residential design/build firm near Portland. Over the next twelve years, Michael worked in various roles at the company as they grew to more than five times their size when he started, including a stint back in the field as a foreman and project manager, but for the last several years he managed the design department and business development as they established a new cabinetmaking division and took on some of their largest and most successful projects to date.
Throughout his career, Michael had studied building science and energy efficiency, and the more he learned, the more frustrated he grew with not being able to convince clients to implement strategies that were better for the environment. He and his wife had also decided to relocate from their small urban lot to have more land for their growing homesteading activities, and to be closer to their parents, so in 2014 they moved to a farm established in 1830 in Palermo, Maine, between Augusta and Belfast, about 75 miles north of Portland.
Michael had been interested in the Passive House building energy standard since he had first learned about it in 2006, and got a job with one of the premier builders of Passive Houses in the US, who happened to be starting a shop to build the most energy efficient buildings in the world, indoors, in Searsmont, Maine. Michael’s title was Operations Manager, but he performed a wide variety of tasks to help bring the new business from concept to a successful venture. As exciting as it was to help start a new venture, Michael missed using the skills he had learned helping hundreds of clients design new homes and renovations, so in early 2015 he started a new firm, Michael Maines Residential Design. He understands that not every client is interested in building a certified Passive House, but he works with them to find a balance of efficiency and cost, while making sure that the home or renovation is beautiful, functional and healthy for its occupants and the environment. Michael works all over Maine, with current projects in Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Belgrade and Rockland. He also works on more remote projects, currently including Rhode Island and Chicago, using the advantages of digital communication whenever possible.

Kerry Lewis Landscape Architecture
Kerry Lewis established KLLA in 2002 after fifteen years of professional practice with firms in New York, San Francisco and, most recently, in Boston with the award winning Halvorson Design Partnership. At Halvorson, Kerry headed up the residential design department and lent her planting expertise to many commercial, institutional and park projects.
She comes by her love of plants naturally from growing up on a farm in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. Her parents own and operate a perennial nursery in the area, Lorjon Nursery. Artistic talents run in the family; Kerry’s brother, Christoper Lewis, is a stone mason and artist who is available for commissioned work.
Kerry graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science with distinction in Landscape Architecture.
Kerry is a registered landscape architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of California. She is a member of New England Wildflower Society, Massachusetts Horticultural Society, The Trustees of Reservation, The Garden Conservancy and The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
She was recently elected to the Board of Trustees at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA.

Michael grew up on an old farm in central Maine, learning practical skills and spending a lot of time working and playing outdoors in woods, fields and water. During high school he became interested in timber frame construction, where the skeleton of the building is expressed with large timbers and traditional all-wood joinery. He knew he wanted to design and build beautiful, natural, expressive homes for a career, but was torn between going to college for architecture, engineering, or another field. He chose to attend Tufts University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with a minor in Architectural Studies, graduating with honors and with an award for entrepreneurial achievement. He had spent every break during college working as carpenter or woodworker, and used his savings and award money to buy an old Volvo station wagon and some tools, and spent the next several years working as a fine woodworker, carpenter and contractor all over New England, mostly in Cambridge and Nantucket, MA.
Michael and his wife-to-be decided they would move from Somerville, MA to Portland, ME in August of 2001. The events a few weeks later hastened their move, and in early 2002, Michael found a job as a drafter at a respected residential design/build firm near Portland. Over the next twelve years, Michael worked in various roles at the company as they grew to more than five times their size when he started, including a stint back in the field as a foreman and project manager, but for the last several years he managed the design department and business development as they established a new cabinetmaking division and took on some of their largest and most successful projects to date.
Throughout his career, Michael had studied building science and energy efficiency, and the more he learned, the more frustrated he grew with not being able to convince clients to implement strategies that were better for the environment. He and his wife had also decided to relocate from their small urban lot to have more land for their growing homesteading activities, and to be closer to their parents, so in 2014 they moved to a farm established in 1830 in Palermo, Maine, between Augusta and Belfast, about 75 miles north of Portland.
Michael had been interested in the Passive House building energy standard since he had first learned about it in 2006, and got a job with one of the premier builders of Passive Houses in the US, who happened to be starting a shop to build the most energy efficient buildings in the world, indoors, in Searsmont, Maine. Michael’s title was Operations Manager, but he performed a wide variety of tasks to help bring the new business from concept to a successful venture. Hailing from Downeast Maine, Fred completed his studies at USM in 2006 with a focus on Media Studies. Fred’s a passionate writer, as well as an audio producer, and since 2007 has been running a radio show called Radio Drama Revival at community station WMPG. He also produces his own fiction stories as audio plays with his award-winning FinalRune Productions.
Since joining ReVision Energy in 2010, he has had the joy of using his new media skills to promote the sound economic and environmental return on investment of solar energy. He is also committed to sustainability and simple living in his own life.
He and his wife Amy, their daughter Nyana, dog Henry, 28+ chickens, goats, and seasonally-varying cast of other critters live on an action-packed 4 acre off-grid homestead in Alfred, Maine.
Fred and Amy built their cozy yurt-inspired SIP-house themselves, and can attest to the wonders of insulation (over 20°? who needs heat?). They recently traveled to Lesotho (in Southern Africa) to install solar panels on a community hall, where it will help bring educational activities to a remote area of the world (they lived in a round house while there, too).
In addition to living sustainably, Fred and Amy are passionate about environmental conservation and serve on the Town of Alfred’s Conservation Commission.
Fred and Amy’s off-grid home contains a super-efficient audio post-production facility which can pump out quality productions for less than 2kw/hr of power a day! Meeting this modest electric load is a 750W solar electric array cobbled together from ReVision’s scratch and dent bin. They have a rarely-used gasoline generator as backup.
The Winter Panel SIP home uses around a 1/2 cord of firewood a year, most of which is harvested from their own land. They have not fired up their propane back-up heater since 2010.
Finally, they have a DC-powered Solene Aurora solar hot water collector, completing the suite of renewable energy systems.
Steve Konstantino, founder and owner of Performance Building Supply, is an expert in building science and renewable energy systems. Originally inspired by super-insulated, passive solar homes he saw and lived in during the early 1980’s, Steve designed and built two passive solar homes himself, often struggling to find healthy building materials and information. Since that time, the building industry has been compelled to respond to the increasing demand for high performance, sustainable products and energy efficient building practices.
Founding Maine Green Building Supply was Steve’s way of bringing these types of products to a community of like-minded developers, architects, contractors and homeowners. He hosts a monthly Building Science Discussion Group and other educational forums.
