In this sermon we cover the account of what is known as "The Lord's Supper." This ordinance, also known as "Communion" or the "Eucharist," is one of two ordinances given to us by Jesus. In this sermon CrossLife elder, Andy DeBoer, leads us through the original Passover meal and explains how Jesus comes to reveal himself as the true Passover, the fulfillment of the Passover celebration, which is God's salvation of his people from slavery and death.

As we finish up on our series of the end times in Matthew, Jesus begins to explain how he wants us to live in light of what he has told his disciples about the end times. Jesus explains in the parables again that no one knows the exact time, that it will be a long time before he comes again, and that he cares very much how we live in the in-between time. We prepare the way for his certain coming by living in anticipation of it through a life walking in good works. We prepare by living in faith, in trust, of what he has said, what he has promised, and how he has told us to live. By loving God, becoming like Christ, living in the Spirit, loving others, proclaiming Christ, and living as a child of the Kingdom of Heaven, which has already begun in us.
In this passage Jesus is making it clear that no one will know when the final coming of Christ will be. Only God the Father knows when the End will be. Jesus then provides three lessons and one warning in the passage. All of these lesson reinforce this one very clear teaching: No one knows when Christ will return except God the Father Himself. Because of this, Jesus's disciples should glean as much wisdom from these examples as they can. In this week's passage, lead elder and pastor, Ricky Massengale, teaches about Christ's return. Christ will gather His own people, and his return will be a very public, undeniable event that the whole world will experience.

Prior to this passage Jesus has just asked the Pharisees a question, which they could, or would, not answer. Now, Jesus turns to the crowds and begins to correct any errant understanding they have because of the Pharisees and Sadducees. In Matthew chapter 22 Jesus has been fielding questions from the Pharisees, Herodians, and Sadducees. Now He asks them a question that they are not able to answer. As Jesus is further declaring his messiahship in this question, his question challenges their perceptions and understandings about who the Messiah might be. In this passage Jesus is establishing Himself as the Messiah, the Son of God, and clarifying that He is the Cornerstone on Whom God will build His Kingdom, which will be for all nations and not the Jewish nation alone.

Through this passage and the rest of the account of Matthew and the Gospel of John we read that Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth as the second Person of the Trinity. If this is true, will you accept His authority over everything in your life?
The purpose of the inclusion of this account in Matthew's Gospel at first glance seems a little mysterious, but it is rich with meaning and instruction. There are actually two things going on in this passage, one spurred by the other. First, Jesus curses a fig tree because it is not bearing any fruit, and this is actually a symbolic action against Israel; the second thing that occurs is that Jesus uses this as an opportunity to remind the disciples that they (and all those who abide in Christ) have an incredible power in their own faith and prayer life. Ricky Massengale, lead teaching elder of CrossLife Fort Smith, preaches through Matthew 21:12-17, showing how Jesus, and therefore all of the Trinitarian God, cared about what was happening in the Temple. What God desired of His Temple had been corrupted and was no longer fulfilling its purpose. By extension, we today also need to acknowledge that God cares about His Church and need to ensure we are doing those things for His honor and His glory.

All of the Grace that we have received is due to the fact that we have a God Who covenants with His creation. But what is a covenant, and why does it matter? We not only look at the Abrahamic Covenant but also the Edenic, Noahic, Mosaic, Davidic, and the New Covenant. Because our Holy God covenants, we have the full redemption from our sins.
We return to Genesis and begin an 8-week journey through scripture to see God’s sovereign work through his calling, covenanting, providing of and for the Patriarchs. From the beginning, God has always sought to create a people for His own possession. The Fall brought brokenness into the world, but God promised redemption. Here, in Genesis we see the beginning of His redemptive work that will ultimately be fully realized in Jesus Christ.

In this sermon, we look at the story of the tower and city of Babel by observing God's sovereignty even through man's disobedience, how it is that we are so prone to build our own kingdoms when there is only one true King, and how Christ in God will be glorified through his original plan to have many peoples, nations, and languages.
In this sermon, we understand Noah’s sin, grasp Ham’s sin, and hear Noah’s cursing of Canaan and blessing of Shem and Japheth. Where we see sin continuing, we also see God’s ultimate redemptive plan unfolding. Praise the Lord that salvation has always been near—that is the patience of a loving, kind Father.
The world and we continue today because of God’s covenant of mercy that He made with Noah. After God’s judgment, there is His promise of mercy. But we are also reminded in Scripture that there is an even greater judgment coming: a judgment of fire, not of water.
In this sermon, we cover the scope of the narrative that records the worldwide flood during Noah’s days and God’s salvation through the Ark. When the world was filled with sin, a holy God purged the world of sin with a flood. God will go to extreme measures to bring about the holiness He desires and requires.
In Genesis 6:1-9, we see some new mysteries: Sons of God, Nephilim, God’s designating of 120 years . . .. We also see the vast wickedness of mankind. Then, we see Noah, a righteous, blameless man who walked with God. But for all the righteousness of Noah, we have more: we have the righteousness of Christ.
In this passage we see two things: 1) the spread of sin through Cain’s line and 2) the sustaining of a Godly line through Seth. Praise God for his mercy: from the line of Seth, we get Christ.
Many of us are familiar with the historical story of Cain and Abel, but in this sermon we stop to consider the the divide between Cain and Abel’s offerings. Why was one acceptable and the other not? And May we not overlook goodness and mercy of God as he warned and corrected Cain.
We continue our journey through Genesis and see in scripture “The Fall” of Adam and Eve. We hear, too, the first promise of the coming Messiah.
God created all things and called it all “good.” Marriage was created by God, and scripture points us to the realization that God’s intent for marriage is that it has a grander reality than what most of us believe. Marriage in this life is a picture of the Eternal Marriage of Christ and His Bride (the Church).
It’s often hard for us to imagine not only how good all of God’s creation was, but also to wrap our minds around how constantly and consistently good God was to Adam before Adam and Eve rebelled. From the beginning every intent of God toward Man was good, and we see that in Genesis 2. The heartache, brokenness and sorrow we have today is the result of sin and was NOT part of God’s original design for Man.
We begin our new book series in Genesis. There is a richness of doctrine in Genesis that shapes the rest of the Bible, and we find the roots of the Gospel in Genesis as well. But we begin today with observing the beginning of all creation and seeing that God Alone is sovereign over all creation.
In this sermon, we see that scripture tells us about Promises, Prayer, and Guarding One Another’s Wandering.
Genuine faith in Christ calls us to endure and have patience. We patiently endure, not because of our mere determination, but because we know the promises of God are true.
We continue on through the book of James and consider the condemnation that James gives “the rich” of his day. To be clear, wealth is not evil, yet James is condemning this particular group of rich people—why? What was wrong with their riches? What caution and comfort can Christians glean from this text?

We continue moving through the God-breathed book of James, as this week we consider the essential role of good works and authentic faith. Genuine faith will produce good works, but good works will not produce genuine faith. We were saved by God to do good works, NOT because of our good works.
