Each week, these born and bred Georgia Girls combine the wisdom they learned from their mama with two decades of working in national politics in Washington, DC. The result for listeners is a little humor and a lot of common-sense solutions to issues facing our great republic.
This week, #TheBassSisters highlight Men of Valor. A Tennessee-based Christian ministry that works with men in prison. Men of Valor is committed to winning men in prison to Jesus Christ and discipling them. Their purpose is to equip them to re-enter society as men of integrity – becoming givers to the community rather than takers.
According to Men of Valor, nationally, 70% of men released from prison will return to prison.
Raul and Genevieve share how through Bible-based programming, aftercare/re-entry services, and the involvement of committed staff and volunteers, Men of Valor’s success rate beats both national and statewide statistics. In fact, for men who complete Men of Valor’s 6-month program inside the prison and 12-month program outside the prison, the recidivism rate is below 15%.

We have seen the headlines of Americans losing their livelihoods and being stripped from marketplace platforms, from banking institutions to social media platforms, after exercising their first amendment right of freedom of speech.
1792 Exchange recently reviewed and rated over 1,000 companies on their policies and practices to determine how likely the company will cancel a contract, boycott, divest or deny services based on views or beliefs.

This week, #TheBassSisters talk with Patrice Onwuka, Director of the Center for Economic Opportunity, at the Independent Women's Forum (IWF).
Patrice has written extensively on the impact that over-regulation has on the economic stability of America's middle and working-class families.
American families are feeling the squeeze from out-of-control inflation. Patrice talks about how the Biden Administration may bring more grief to hardworking families by overtaxing low-income workers relying on the gig economy.
Patrice also talks about IWF's fight to ensure that protections for biological females are not erased. The fight is taking place on the sports field, in the classroom and local, state and federal governing chambers.
IWF is also working double time to support policies that protect youth. As the number of transgender-indentifying youth has nearly doubled in recent years, IWF is giving voice to those who feel silenced as they push back against the one-sided "affirmation-only" model that promotes experimental drugs and medically invasive surgeries. Americans distrust the media today more than ever. According to Gallup polling over the last 50 years, confidence in the newspaper has plummeted from 39% in 1972 to 11% in 2022. Television news is fairing even worse, dropping from 48% in 1993 to 11% in 2022.

The Bass Sisters celebrate the depiction of mentally and physically STRONG black female characters because they believe that representation matters.
But here's the kicker...ideological representation matters to them as well. This is why if given a choice to vote between a white man who shares their views on the horrors of abortion, the power of school choice, or the importance of parental rights over a black woman who did not share their opinions on those subjects...they would vote for the white man who shares their political world view because IDEOLOGICAL representation matters.
The Bass Sisters also point out why boycotting this film because it is not 100% accurate is an unwise exercise. First, when is film EVER 100% accurate? Second, if The Woman King doesn't do well at the box office, it will be another generation or more before we can see an intelligent action film with wise and beautiful sunkissed talent.

The Bass Sisters preview two midterm Senate races. According to the latest Trafalgar and Emerson polls, Herschel Walker has closed the gap between himself and incumbent Raphael Warnock. But Georgia Republicans must not take a victory lap. The only poll that counts is the one on election day. Warnock has the mainstream media doing his bidding. He refuses to debate Walker. His extreme opinions on the definition of the word woman and the sanctity of life are out of touch with the tenants of his faith and the residents of Georgians.
While the polls say that Tiffany Smiley lags behind Senator Patty Murray by double digits, the Bass Sisters think that Smiley has the potential to be a spoiler. Every attempt Murray has made to paint Smiley as a far-right extremist isn't working. But Smiley continues to land punches proving that 30 years is long enough for Murray to have a more successful track record.

The Bass Sisters revisit the CRT conversation.
Big Media on the left continues to paint a narrative that the only parents protesting in school board meetings are those who are opposed to teaching the fullness of American history, gore, guts, glory.
In a very unscientific poll of their friends who are parents and educators, The Bass Sisters could find not one person who actually had problems teaching about America's full history.
They did however find almost no parent or educator willing to teach 1) America is a racist country 2) White people are inherent oppressors 3) Black People are by default victims.
They also note that a lot (again admittedly unscientific) of the protests at school board meetings was around the way school boards were forcing parents to accept left leaning views on gender.

In this latest episode of Policy & Pound Cake, we are talking about voting rights. We believe that this issue, like many important issues, is being used as a political football to gin up the base. As some leaders and activists cry, voter suppression, the reality is that voting rights, voter turnout and voter access have increased.
As state legislatures review the things that worked and didn't work as the nation voted during a global pandemic, they have written laws to implement things that worked and modify things that did not work.
But the cries that Democracy is about to end because people are being asked to show their ID to vote, or because activists and partisans are not allowed to pass out treats while people are waiting in line, or because third party groups are no longer allowed to send unsolicited ballots, or because partisan players are not allowed to mass-collect absentee ballots....is well RIDICULOUS.
We see this as an attempt for Democrats to go to page #1 of their playbook and do what they do when their polls numbers are plummeting. They call Republicans racists.
Hey...Republicans are not immune. They have a playbook as well. But today, we are talking about voting rights...which are not in jeopardy.

His 1852 speech is often used to rightly point out the contradiction of what celebrating freedom meant to enslaved people. But after the Emancipation proclamation, his speeches in 1865, 1875 call for African Americans to own the holiday.
In fact, after the Emancipation, according to The Atlantic, "the nation's 4 million newly emancipated citizens transformed Independence Day into a celebration of black freedom. "It was almost exclusively an African American holiday.

In this week’s virtual roundtable, Dee Dee and Deana (#TheBassSisters) talk more about capitalism messaging. Using the writings of often overlooked President James Garfield, they make the argument that slavery had to end for America to move towards a more perfect moral and economic union. There is a long-held narrative that slavery fueled the U.S. Economy. But is it possible that slavery stifled economic growth? When you look at the evidence, it’s easy to argue that America would have moved farther faster if we had never engaged in the peculiar institution.
Economist Karl Smith writes, “Just before independence, the per capita gross domestic product of the South, adjusted for inflation, was $3,100 per year -- compared with just $1,832 in New England. Over the next 60 years Southern per capita GDP actually declined, to $2,521. British demand for cotton helped it to recover to $4,000 per person in 1860, but by then the comparable figure for New England was $5,3370]
Slave labor was no match for canals, railroads, steel mills and shipyards. Slavery -- and the parochial rent-seeking culture it promoted -- inhibited the growth of capitalism in the South. Ultimately, it was Northern industrial might that ended that peculiar institution in the US once and for all.”
In a nutshell, when men and women own the fruits of their labor, they are free and that is the hallmark of capitalism. When the fruits of your labor are controlled by the master or the state, that is Slavery.
