On one hand, Proverbs is really a children’s book. The author of the book is giving wisdom to his son, teaching him what it means to live in the fear of the Lord. Mark 2:18-22 - Religion has a knack for taking a good thing and making it a bad thing. Jesus and his disciples get into another confrontation with the Pharisee’s; this time the subject is over fasting. Like pedals on a bike, they require the other in order to work.
James 1:12-15 Every time God provides an opportunity, Satan brings opposition. This is why for those who follow Jesus, things are bound to get harder, not easier. But by the grace of God, you can fight, persevere, and emerge victorious because as Jesus overcame temptations for us.

Luke 19:11-27 Jesus is prophet, priest and king. Typically the church does very well in focusing on Jesus as prophet and priest, however we tend to struggle with Jesus as king. In this parable Jesus tells us his big vision for our lives and how we can accomplish that by simply being faithful with what he has entrusted us with.
Luke 18: 1-8 Persistence pays off. Jesus is encouraging us as his disciples that when things are difficult or uncertain we can always go to him in prayer and he will provide for us. Stay focused on him through perseverance regardless of what is happening in life and in the end you will receive your reward.
Luke 8:4-10 You are dirt, the question is what type of dirt are you? Will you be the dirt that Jesus uses to build the Kingdom of God or will you build your own kingdom in this world? The gospel has the power to change and transform lives but we must be open and receptive to the word for it to do it’s work. In this parable we are reminded that if our hearts are not tender and ready to receive then we will not be able to grow and mature in faith.
Luke 15:1-10 God is filled with joy when lost people are found. When we repent (confessing, compelling, life-changing), God rejoices. Jesus is the good shepherd and we are his sheep. That means we are prone to wonders and stray, but wherever we find ourselves the good shepherd is always there. He never gives up looking for his people, and when what is lost is found, God throws a party.
Titus 1:9-2:1 What was the most difficult conversation that you ever had? How did you respond? Paul is going to have some tough words for the church, but tough words make tough people. In this sermon we look at how sound doctrine produces sound living and why it is necessary for us to know the truth, that way we don’t fall victim to lies, deceit, and division.
Titus 1:5-9 - The church in Crete is not doing well. There are some major issues that Paul is writing Titus, their pastor to give him gospel-centered help and instruction on how to get the church back on mission for God's glory and the good of others. The first thing Paul tells Titus to do is to find godly men to serve as pastors, and get good leaders, men and women, to serve the church by their commitments, conduct, character, and convictions. The big idea is that everything rises and falls on leadership, and to be a leader, you must first be a follower.
Prayer is something that is more caught than taught, which is why Jesus didn't spend the bulk of his ministry preaching expository sermons or writting books about prayer, but rather spent his life in community and modeling a vibrant prayer life to his disciples. In this sermon we concider the when and where we are to pray.
If prayer is just another box you check or chore you have to do, you will never learn to pray nor be faithful at it. But when you know “why we pray” and “who we pray too” then prayer really does change everything.
When you think of prayer is it a delight or is it despair? My hope is that we will learn to pray first and pray often. Prayer isn’t something we have to do, rote, religious obligations, duty or despair, rather, prayer is something we get to do because we have a God who loves us.
2 Corinthians 9 - The American Dream is to get as much stuff in this life as possible, but what if we got it all backwards? What if God's good work is to not get caught with all the cards at lifes end? The greatest riches we have are only found in the person and work of Jesus. Is Jesus enough for you?
2 Corinthians 8:11-24 - The average American will earn 2 million dollars over the course of their lifetime, the problem is it all goes so fast. So what we need to learn to do is step back and see all of our lives from Gods perspective, this is the mentality of a steward.
1 Corinthians 12:12-27 - When was the last time you made your hotel bed? Never. Why? Because you knew someone else was going to do it for you. Some people treat the body of Christ like a hotel instead of a home. God has called us together to accomplish his purpose of making disciples who make disciples, which takes everyone working together for his glory and the good of others. If you are called by God, you are called to serve.
Matthew 28:16-20 - What is my purpose? That really is the question we all wrestle with. The Bible uses the word purpose quite often, but when it does it never refers to it as exclusively yours, but rather it belongs to God and he invites you to partner with him in accomplishing his purpose in life. Purpose it’s not about us or because of us, but it’s all because of Jesus. When the Bible speaks of purpose, it also uses another word…mission. That’s the subject for today as we continue our series Called Together and we are going to look at what is means to be called to mission.
Acts 2: 38-47 - The big question for the week is...what is "community"? Community is sort of a buzzword right? We all say it but what does it really mean? One of the most important decisions we will make is what community will we be a part of? And what marks to look for in an authentic community.
Romans 11:36-12:1 Everyone is a worshiper. We all have things that we love, sacrifice for, and hold close to our hearts. The question isn't do I worship, but who and how will I worship? Do you worship someone or something, or do you worship the Someone who created everything?
Habakkuk Chapter 2. We fight traffic, avoid lanes at department stores, and microwave our food all because we hate waiting. As modern people one of the most difficult things that God asks us to do is wait. Habakkuk teaches us how to wait on the Lord without giving into bitterness.
Questioning and Faith - Habakkuk Chapter 1 We are to study the Bible, pray, worship, serve, and grow in community. All of these things teach us how to live by faith, but when hard times come the question still remains, God why?
