Things pick up right where they left off as everyone tries to recover from the riot in the gym. Warden Masry gets caught in the crossfire, she has to undergo a hearing of her own and ends up losing her job in the meantime. Aaron has to overcome his injuries, being transferred to Rikers and back, and even solitary confinement just to make it to court for his retrial. The fate of the prison is back in the hands of Cyrus Hunt who has a zero tolerance and nothing seems to be the same.

This week Aaron beings to work on the case of the recent inmate transfer with his lawyer Henry, determined to take DA hopeful Maskins down. Outside of the prison Marie has trouble dealing with what she should do about Darius, but Jasmine’s facebook page leads her back to working on Aaron’s case. The warden is on a hunt to get Foster and figure out how drugs are coming into the prison. Aaron gets another victory in court as his client is released from prison and the District Attorney’s office ends up burying information that may have helped his case.

Aaron's lawyer, Henry presents a case from his pace that he wants Aaron to use in order to go after the District Attorney. All the while, Dawkins continues to be a troubled inmate. He causes a fight in the shower and as a result Aaron plans to represent Dawkins as a way to finally get his phone back but Dawkins doesn't make it easy for him. Aaron quickly learns of Dawkins reach when he goes to get Captain Foster to testify and has to ignore the fact that his client has already intimidated him. Marie continues to sort through her feelings for Aaron after receiving the divorce papers and Darius leaves her a goodbye note along with her mom's engagement ring.

The warden is on the hunt for who is bringing drugs into the prison while Aaron gets to show off his legal skills defending a guilt man but not without getting what he needs to clear his own name. Marie and Jasmine help Aaron find witnesses as Marie is conflicted by her relationship with Darius.

In season 1 episode 3, ‘Brother’s Keeper,’ we meet Hassan, an inmate leading a group therapy for recovering addicts, and he becomes Aaron’s next client. Hassan needs his brother’s help, and Aaron reaches out to see if he can get him to testify on Hassan’s behalf. Once the DA gets wind of it, he goes after Aaron by looking into the forgery and filing of false evidence from the Rodriguez case. Meanwhile, Aaron loses the motion to help Hassan’s case, but not before asking his brother to use his status as a police officer to review his file. With the help of Hassan’s brother, Aaron works frivolously but he is working against a system that wont give him any favors; however, the system can’t stop Hassan’s brother from delivering Aaron’s police report to Marie.
