54: After the gold rush, there was a silver rush in the 19th Century that came to define Virginia City, Nevada. And at the heart of VC is the Washoe Club, Nevada's oldest saloon. A place where millionaires (and Mark Twain) gathered to flaunt their wealth, sex workers of the time worked, and outlaws came to fight, the Washoe — and Virginia City as a whole — is teeming with spectral stories.

Because NightMerica is headed to Virginia City for Comstock Con on Oct 7-10, 2021 (Tix: www.vccomcon.weebly.com), Aaron is joined by author and historian Janice Oberding, who has written more than 30 books, including Haunted Virginia City. As well as walking us through the haunted history, she talks of California true crime as well.

And if you like weird history (and we know you do):

Check out Aaron Sagers' new web series Ripley's Believe It or Not! Ripley's Road Trip, where he explores odd artifacts and digs up strange local history.

53: What are the Spook Lights of Oklahoma? In a region littered with such names as Devil’s Hollow, Devil’s Promenade and Lost Creek, it is not surprising to find that the far northeast corner of OK has something of a supernatural presence. Here, one can find the unexplained “Spook Lights” dancing along the back roads and in the dark woods of northeastern Oklahoma.

Cullan Hudson is the author of the supernatural thriller, The Mound, and Strange State: Mysteries and Legends of Oklahoma, a nonfiction collection of strange-but-true tales from the Sooner State. Many of those meticulously researched stories had never before been reported, while others were rediscovered by the author after having been forgotten for nearly a century. Hudson's short story, "The Iron Door: Curse of the Sierra Jumanos,” was included in the 2005 Red Dirt Anthology. Hudson enjoys traveling to paranormal locations and has visited sites from Central American pyramids to mysterious Moroccan mountains, haunted Roman Ruins and English castles to Loch Ness and Bigfoot's dark realm in the Pacific Northwest. Additionally, Hudson lived in Puerto Rico for several years investigating that island's famous forteana, including legends of the chupacabra, Moca Vampire, and ancient haunted fortresses.

52: Terry Carnation may look, and sound, almost exactly like Rainn Wilson who we know from The Office, but he's definitely not Rainn Wilson. Instead, Terry Carnation is the longtime host of the late-night AM radio show Dark Air, and a trailblazer in the paranormal arena (and his ongoing exploits are documented in the Dark Air podcast). Terry is a legend in this field, and in this very special NightMerica, he joins Aaron to blow our minds with his paranormal truths.

Ep. 51: Michelle Belanger, author of "The Dictionary of Demons" — along with 30 other books on the occult and paranormal — joins me to educate on the infamous entities. What is a demon? You think you know, but their origins are more complicated, and much older than you may think. Why do people not speak the name of a demon? (Especially when using something's name grants the user power over it — think not being afraid to say "Voldemort.") And how have a fascination with demons influenced modern paranormal TV (and a crop of armchair demonologists)? With the 10th anniversary expanded edition of her important book, Belanger (Paranormal State, Portals to Hell) challenges and informs the notion of demons, and we discuss how it even became the focus of a "heated" conversation with Lorraine Warren. Follow Michelle at Twitter.com/sethanikeem, and https://www.michellebelanger.com.

Ep. 49 (A NightMerica exclusive story): Before he worked as an engineer on movies such as Jurassic Park, John Catapano was a pre-med student at William Paterson University in NJ. In 1974, as a student reporter for the newspaper, The Beacon, he was assigned to interview famed paranormal investigators Ed & Lorraine Warren (after the events of The Conjuring began to unfold, and before The Amityville Horror). That meeting led to Catapano working with the Warrens and becoming embroiled in a haunting of a character known as The Dutchman, which plagued a family and allegedly went on to follow Catapano. Author and filmmaker Mitch Hyman joins NightMerica to tell the tale of The Dutchman: The Lost Ed & Lorraine Warren story.

In the new Hulu documentary series 'Sasquatch,' director Joshua Rofé tells the story of journalist David Holthouse who heard an eyewitness tell this tortured tale while laying low in California's Emerald Triangle. Now, 28 years later, he's gone back to investigate. Rofé joins NightMerica to break down this strange and dangerous case, equal parts paranormal and true crime.

Ep. 47: In 1803, in the London neighborhood of Hammersmith, a ghost had been plaguing residents. The sightings of a tall, white-clad figure were numerous, and at least two people had been said to have died of fright after an encounter. So when Francis Smith loaded up his gun in January 1804, he had a mission to capture a ghost. He may have succeeded instead in committing murder, and creating a ghost. What follows is a strange but true tale of crime, and paranormal legend.

Ep. 46: Before there was the famous Patterson-Gimlin sasquatch photo in 1967, there was Ape Canyon. In 1924, a group of miners claim they saw a "Mountain Devil," and shot at it. They would regret that decision that night when they said they were attacked by a group of these Bigfoot creatures. This is one of the most famous, violent, and scary sasquatch stories -- so much so that the attack warrants a "true crime" label, and received widespread media coverage long before society was talking about 'Squatch. Joining for the conversation is Cryptozoologist and Bigfoot researcher Eric Altman. With a combined 39 years of study and research of the phenomenon, Eric is a well-respected field researcher, contributing author and Director of the Pennsylvania Cryptozoology Society.

Ep. 45: If you visit Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY, you might happen upon a tall headstone for "The Martyr." It belongs to one Washington Irving Bishop, a mentalist with abilities so incredible (and some say supernatural) that doctors and scientists wanted to cut him open — and they did. This strange tale from the 19th Century is one of alleged murder and magic.

Ep. 44: Perhaps the most infamous story of Key West is of Carl Tanzler aka Count Carl Von Cosel. Joining us is author David L. Sloan, who wrote "The Lost Diary of Carl Von Cosel: A True Twisted Tale of Love After Death," to tell of a mad scientist, and eccentric, who fell in love with Elena Hoyos, and quite literally could not let her go after her death. This is both a true crime and paranormal tale because of the bizarre nature of Von Cosel's crime. And was there more to Von Cosel's actions? Was he perhaps involved in murder? And what did others know about it?
