Thrive Podcast With Trey Gouch is all about empowering you to reach your sphere of influence by equipping you in easy to understand episodes.
What's your response after God finally answers your prayer? Most of the time this is how we respond clinging to and idolizing the thing we have received finding our hope, security, confidence, strength, joy, etc in the thing rather than in God. This is not how we are to respond after God finally answers our prayer. Hannah models to us what we should do in (1 Samuel 1:27-28)Hannah clung to the fact that God HEARD her. Because she felt heard by God it gave her peace and joy while giving the thing she had asked for, received and now giving it back to God with joy.Ask the person you are discipling: What is an attribute or promise of God that you need to cling to in order to have peace and trust in God when you receive the thing you are asking for and giving it back to the Lord? With the thing you are asking God for, will you give it back to God? What would this look like for you? If you are struggling to do this, ask the Spirit to help you.
I challenge you to pray a big prayer even if it feels scary! God cares for you, he listens to what you have to say, and he sees you while you are praying.
Often we think that when God calls us to an assignment it will be easy. There are times when God calls us to something and it’s NOT easy. So instead of writing off that time you thought you heard God’s voice and it was hard, understand that God doesn’t always call you to easy.
Submitting to culture and allowing culture to influence you is not what’s best for you. Culture says when you submit to God you are missing out. How do you navigate the conversation when the person you are discipling asks, “How is submitting to culture not what’s best for me?”
Ask them this question:
1. Ask, Why do you often desire to be like the world around us (or, what entices us about the world/culture we live in)
Ask, In your experience, what is the promised outcome versus the actual outcome of being like the world/culture around us?
Read 1 Samuel 8:4-9,19-22 (observe how culture’s promised outcome is not the actual outcome)
Ask, what does the Bible say about living submitted to God?
Submitting to God is the best thing for you
No one ever talks about this. Jesus spent all night praying asking God to show him who to spend his time with. God gives him a list of names and one of those people was Judas Iscariot and God even gave Jesus the heads up that he would betray him. Yet Jesus still chose to spend his time with him. (Luke 6:12-16)
