Do we really know Jesus? That's the eternal question. It's not whether we practice a religion; it's do we have a personal relationship with Jesus. In this message, Pastor Mat explains that all the Old Testament sacrifices point to Jesus, the Lamb of God. Only His sacrifice is able to take away our sin. And in doing so, He made a way for us back into God's presence to make possible that personal relationship that He wants us to have with Him.
If God is all-knowing, why do we need to pray? That question begins this powerful study by Pastor Igor. From Luke and also the account of the Children of Israel in the Wilderness, we learn why God wants us to turn to Him every day in prayer.
In this timely message, Markus points out that our joy and peace need not be contingent upon the circumstances of this temporary life.

The Apostle John's vision continues as he sees a mighty angel, standing with one foot on land and one on the sea. In his hand is a little book. A voice from heaven instructs John to take the book and then eat it. In his mouth it is sweet, but in his belly it is bitter. What is this book? Why is it both bitter and sweet?
Pastor Igor points out the earthly reality of the injustice and oppression of mankind. Then he offers hope detailing the heavenly perspective of believing in the ultimate justice of God.
The LORD has His ways of showing people that He is God...and we are not. In his own words in Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar shares his harrowing story of how God brought him to a place of finally acknowledging the Supreme King of the Universe. Pastor Mat points out that his testimony is a lesson to all of us: if we are humble and honest with God, He won't have to cut us down like He did Nebuchadnezzar.
From the illustration of God's law concerning marriage, the Apostle Paul teaches that we were once all "married" to sin, but are now free to be united to Jesus Christ. Pastor Mat points out the resulting conflict between the two natures and how we can choose to follow the new nature. He also addresses the question of whether or not we need to be experientially perfect before serving God.
Pastor Mat tackles a difficult portion of Scripture dealing with the fifth and sixth Trumpet Judgements. Who is the star that falls from heaven and opens the bottomless pit? And how can a pit be bottomless? Are the locusts that are released insects or something even more sinister? Who is on the earth at this time? It's a exciting study on some dire events.
Pastor Jim Malkemes stresses the importance of staying connected to God. From this story about Naomi and Ruth, he warns us that when we disconnect we find ourselves returning to a place of unholiness, from which the Lord has already delivered us. We need to stay in the place of blessing, even when we go through trials.
In this study on how to resist temptation, Markus takes us through three ways in which temptation can actually result in strengthening our faith.
Do we try to avoid the fiery trials in our lives? Of course we do. It's human nature. But those trials will come, and we learn from Daniel Chapter Three that Jesus will be with us in the midst of those trials if we hold fast our faith and trust in Him.
Most people would recoil at the thought of being a slave. Yet the Bible makes it clear ALL of us are slaves -- either to the devil or to God. Here in Romans 6, Paul tells us we have been freed from slavery to sin, and now have the privilege of being a slave to Jesus and righteousness. What does that mean? Pastor Mat addresses that and also points out the difference between the fruit of slavery to sin and slavery to God.
Is the book of Revelation meant to be understood in chronological order? Do the various judgments happen separately, or do they overlap? These are some questions Pastor Mat deals with as we continue our series in Revelation with Chapter 8, and the first four of the trumpet judgments.
How did Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego hang on to the Living God in the midst of all the false gods around them in Babylon? How do we resist the pull of the false gods in our "Babylon"? In this study in Daniel, we see true faith displayed by three men who determined they would serve their God no matter how He decided their fate. They knew where their allegiance lay.
Pastor Igor takes us through Ecclesiastes 3, stressing:
1) God Orchestrates the events in our lives (vv 1-8)
2) We Struggle to understand God's plans (vv 9-13)
3) God wants humans to Fear (revere) Him (vv 14-15)
4) We need to Trust in the character of God.
Pastor Dave explores the psalmist's thankfulness to the Lord for his deliverance from death. And we learn why worship is a thankful response.
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon dreamed a fearful dream, and set a challenge that worldly wisdom and gifts could not meet. The proposed punishment for failure threatened the lives not only of the King's wise men, but of Daniel and his three Hebrew companions. But Daniel knew the Living God could help him meet the challenge. What will the Lord enable us to do if we stay faithful and trust in Him alone?
Should believers continue sinning because God loves to forgive sin?
Pastor Mat looks at what it really means to be "dead to sin" and how we can reckon - or consider - ourselves to be that way.
King Nebuchadnezzar's dream sets the stage for a contest between the wisdom, philosophy, and gods of this world and the Living God. Daniel's life was in danger because of it, but he knew where to go for help.
Where do we run for help? Do we run to the world's wisdom before we run to the Lord?
Pastor Mat continues this series in Daniel, looking at how we can live for Jesus in the midst of our "Babylon."
Five times in this passages of Romans we read the words "much more..." Pastor Mat looks at the truth that the Apostle Paul is clearly emphasizing. One sin has made all mankind an enemy of God. What has He done to reconcile us back to Him? And if God's done His part, will we do ours?
Pastor Mat looks at the techniques used by the ancient Babylonians to try to brainwash Daniel and the other Israelites during the Babylonian Captivity, in order to conform them to the Chaldean worship and lifestyle. Then he looks at the pressure on believers in Christ to conform to the current "Babylonian" worldview today. How did Daniel resist -- and how do we?
Pastor Mat takes us through the first six of seven seals of judgment to come at the end of the age.
Pastor Mat teaches on one of his favorite Psalms. This song of David's extols our omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), and omnipresent (everywhere present) God. He made us; He knows everything about us; and yet He still loves us.
In this chapter, the Apostle Paul gives the Jewish element in the church a Bible study on salvation by grace and faith, not by works. Pastor Mat also explains what is meant when Scripture says God calls things that are not as though they are.
Pastor Mat begins this study with a look at what the Prophet Daniel refers to when he writes about the "seventy weeks of years," in Daniel 9. Then we move on to Revelation, where we begin looking at the first two Seals broken by the Lamb.
In this encouraging study, Pastor Mat looks at the depths of the love of God and reminds us that we can have as much of the Lord as we want if we'll just let Him in. We also look at the Apostle Paul's prayer - which serves as an excellent model for us when praying for ourselves and others.
The Apostle John sees in heaven a Book with seven seals and hears an angel ask: Who is worthy to break the seals and open the book? What is this book? Why is it sealed seven times? Why does John weep when he thinks no one can open it? And who is worthy to break the seals and open this book? Pastor Mat looks at all this and also why Jesus is pictured as BOTH a Lion and a Lamb.
Here, Scripture declares that God is the God of everyone -- Jew and Gentile alike. And although we are all sinners and He is a Righteous Judge, He still offers justification to all through His Son. Pastor Mat points out how God can be both Just and Justifier.
Drawing from this Psalm and the life of King Hezekiah, Pastor Mat points out that God shows up when we get into a tight spot. He gives us grace for the moment -- when we need it. Sometimes, however, we must roll out that need before Him.
All mankind has God's Law -- not just on tablets of stone, but written on our hearts. Pastor Mat points out why this has eternal consequences.
As we continue in the Book of Revelation, Pastor Mat takes us through the heavenly scene to which John becomes a witness in Chapter Four. We also learn the glorious truth about why God created all things.
Why doesn't God immediately take away our pain? What purpose can He have for physical, mental and emotional pain?
God doesn't give us every answer to these questions -- but He does give us some. Markus takes us through several of these answers to be found in Mark Chapter Five. It is a powerful, uplifting message on a difficult subject, given by a soul who has known pain.
This message -- given on the occasion of a special Baby & Child Dedication -- looks at the importance of appreciating these blessings of the Lord and pouring into our children the knowledge of God and His Word. The psalmist also stresses the futility of human effort without God. The recording does begin with the Dedication.
Pastor Mat points out that we cannot always judge the blessing of God by earthly blessings. This was the problem with the Laodicean church. They were well-off materially and so believed they were well-off spiritually. But they were fakers; there was never any real change, any conviction in their lives. They didn't even know they were lukewarm spiritually. How does that happen?
Why is God the Perfect Judge? Because the Judge of all the earth always does what is right and true. Pastor Mat also points out why it is dangerous to judge ourselves by ourselves. Then he wraps up with a simple explanation of salvation.
The messages to the seven churches in Asia Minor begins with the comforting truth that Jesus walks in the midst of His churches. Then as Pastor Mat looks at the word to Ephesus, we find encouragement to not grow weary in doing right practices and deeds, but to make sure that we do not neglect our first love -- our relationship with Jesus.
The church at Philadelphia was small and they thought they weren't very important. But Pastor Mat points out that even though they didn't think they were blessed, Jesus said they were. This church was the real thing.
This recording begins with a Deacon Ordination for Jason Kobayashi, with a look at what qualifies a man to be a deacon and the ordination as our pastors and other deacons lay hands on Jason in prayer.
Then Pastor Mat continues his study on the Apostle John's vision of the Lord Jesus while in exile for his faith on Patmos. He also talks about why he believes the Lord wants His people to be part of a local church.
The latter half of Romans Chapter One deals with the harsh consequences of unbelief. And Pastor Mat points out that mankind is without excuse for not believing in the Living God, because He is shouting to all of us that He is there. Why don't people hear Him?
Sardis is known as The Dead Church. The citizens of Sardis were over-confident about their being impenetrable and unable to be militarily defeated; likewise the church at Sardis was over-confident regarding their good doctrine and being therefore impenetrable to the enemy of their souls. From man's perspective, the church was great; but not from God's perspective. Pastor Mat reminds us that it is more important for us to love Jesus than to love doctrine.
Pastor Mat looks at the "Apostate Church", represented by the church at Thyatira. This was a church infiltrated by Jezebels - those who perverted the Bible. But not everyone in the church succumbed. Pastor Mat points out how it speaks to Christians today.
Pastor Mat takes us through the vision that Apostle John had of Jesus while he was exiled on the Isle of Patmos. It reveals the Lord in all His glory.
The Gospel reveals the righteousness and goodness of God. But Pastor Mat points out that it also reveals that Jesus gave us His righteousness when He took on our sin on the cross.
The Church at Pergamos is known as the "Compromising Church." Pastor Mat points out that many churches throughout history right up to our day start out right, but over time slide away from the truth into compromise and people-pleasing. How do we keep our churches - and ourselves - from compromising the Truth?
Pastor Mat looks at various viewpoints people have on the contents of the book of Revelation. He also stresses the importance of reading the book as Scripture itself says those who do will be blessed. But we also see the opposition and tribulation that will inevitably come to those who endeavor to live holy lives and do more for the Lord Jesus - while remembering "greater is He who is in us"!
Paul's letter to the church at Rome begins with challenges to be true servants of the Lord, to walk in our calling whatever that is, and to be separated - set apart - to Jesus. Pastor Mat also looks that the three offices which Jesus had to fulfill in order to be Messiah.

Pastor Mat looks at the pattern for giving, as laid out by the Apostle Paul to the Corinthians.
Pastor Mat wraps up his series through Jude with a final look at the judgement to come for false teachers, who take advantage of believers in Christ. Then we hear Jude's final encouragement to keep ourselves in the love of God.
Why does Jesus say we must become as little children if we are to enter into the kingdom of Heaven? What are the qualities of a child that the Lord is looking for in us? Pastor Mat explores that in this uplifting message.
Smyrna was a heavily persecuted church, but they got a lot done for the cause of Christ. Pastor Mat continues his look at this church with more about one early church leader in Smyrna - Bishop Polycarp - and his martyrdom that proved him faithful unto the end. We also learn the important difference between being a "horizontal" preacher and a "vertical" preacher.
Pastor Igor encourages us to give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is never in vain in the Lord. The best thing we can do in this uncertain world is to take a step of faith in Christ.
We all have a choice to make to follow God or something else. The Lord Himself says it is a choice between a blessing or a curse -- because our choices always have consequences.
Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal points out the reality of the choice all of us have either to follow the Lord or something else. Pastor Jin Paik asks: what choice will we make? Do we like our sin too much to give it up? He also shares some lessons about letting God guide in ministry, learned from beginning a new church on the beach in Florida -- Anchor Hope.
Outline of Jude: (1) The demand for the letter in vv 1-4; (2) the description of false teachers in vv 5-16; (3) how to defend against false teachers in vv 17-23; and (4) Paul's doxology in vv 24-25.
As we continue our look at false teachers, Pastor Mat points out that they have no respect for authority and they speak ill of dignitaries. Does that speak to us in our current political climate? We also learn about three types of false teachers, following the examples of Cain, Balaam, and Core.
We look at the hope of the resurrection: what it means to be sown in weakness and raised in power. And Pastor Mat also points out why everything we do for Jesus matters.
Is there a connection between suffering for Christ and heavenly rewards? The church at Smyrna had no condemnation or correction from Jesus, but they also suffered the most for Him. Pastor Mat looks at that suffering, how they were "crushed" and how that relates to our lives today. We also learn from this church that, even in the midst of poverty, if we have Jesus, we have everything.
In part two of this look at the Resurrection of Christ, Pastor Mat points out the consequences of saying Jesus did not rise from the dead. And we learn that we aare not to have faith in faith, but faith in the resurrection and the truth of God's Word.
In this second look at the Lord's words to the church at Ephesus, Pastor Mat stresses that Christianity is not just about having good doctrine; it is about having a loving relationship with Jesus. We wrap up with a warning against the "cheap grace" taught by the Nicolaitans.
Can we trust in Christ's resurrection? Does it matter if we believe He actually rose from the dead?
Pastor Mat points out that not only can we fully trust in this event, but it is imperative that we believe in it in order to be saved.
What is the meaning of life? The Teacher looked for it in five earthly spheres: wisdom, pleasure, power, community service, and religion. Ultimately, none of them satisfied. Why? Pastor Igor points out that the reason is the Teacher was looking for answers in worldly pursuits, while true satisfaction is only found in the heavenly realm. What does this have to do with being lukewarm or perfect? Listen and find out.
As we continue our look at the church at Corinth, Pastor Mat reminds us that God is a God of order; and when thing are done in an orderly manner in the church, God's people care about others. He also clarifies the meaning of several passages of Scripture that seem to be conflicting with regard to women speaking in church.
In this special message, Pastor Mat points out that Jesus "crosses borders" to reach us, as He did with one brokenhearted mother. In fact, Scripture makes it very clear that broken hearts move the Lord. It is a message of hope for all of us, but especially for any parent who feels they have failed their children.
Pastor Mat points out that, in Mary, we see a model both of a good mom and a woman of God. She did not fight God's plan for her, even though she did not fully understand it. We also learn that, when we carry Jesus around with us in our hearts, the Holy Spirit overflows onto others.
As we continue looking at the proper use of the gifts of speaking in tongues and prophecy, Pastor Mat reminds us:
that the gifts are given by God for His glory and the good of other believers; and
staying obedient to Scripture is how we grow in Christ and experience true spiritual power.
From the account of the dedication of the Temple of God during King Solomon's reign, Pastor Mat points out that all believers should have times in their lives when the experience the Living God.
But what does it mean for the glory of the Lord to fill the temple? What does it mean to seek His face?
People need to be taught how to worship, how to approach a Holy God. That is what Leviticus is all about. We need to know that we cannot reach God on our own. Pastor Mat points out that, while anyone can come to God, we must come His way.
Every "shadow" in the Old Testament has its substance in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. This is seen clearly in the offerings taught in Leviticus. As he continues his look at how a sinful man can approach a holy God, Pastor Mat reminds us that Christianity is a theology of Divine achievement, not human achievement -- setting it apart from every other religion.
Revelation Chapter Two begins a look at the mediatorial work of Jesus within His Church. Each of the seven churches has a commendation from the Lord, and five also have condemnations/corrections. We begin with the church at Ephesus, where we are reminded to not get so caught up in doing things for Jesus that we forget about simply loving Him.
The Apostle Paul contrasts the gifts of speaking in unknown tongues and prophecy. Pastor Mat reminds us that all the spiritual gifts are given to be a blessing to others, not just ourselves.
Deacon Eddy Currie shares a powerful testimony-filled teaching on the importance of having a sense of obedience.
Wondering if God can use you? Pastor Mat says: What are you holding in your hand? What have you got in your heart?

In this first message dealing with the gifts of the Spirit, we look at the need for order in their operation within the church. Getting out of order is what can turn charisma into charismania. What keeps things orderly? Pastor Mat gives a clear answer.
What happens to believers who die before the Second Coming of Christ and the resurrection of the dead? This was one of the questions the church in Thessalonica had. Pastor Mat points out that Paul gives a clear answer, and that answer gives all who believe blessed hope.

In this very thorough and enlightening message on Communion from Paul's letter to the Corinthians, Pastor Mat looks at the Problem with some believers regarding its celebration, as well as the Pattern and Purpose for the Lord's Supper. We also learn why we need to: look back, look ahead, look within and without. Finally, he points out the Apostle Paul's warning of the very real danger in not reverencing the Lord's Supper.
Do we earn ordination? Sometimes people have a "what's in it for me?" attitude toward Christian service, with ordination seen as a reward due to them. But in this message given on the occasion of ordaining new deacons at GRC, Pastor Mat points out that real Christian service isn't done to get anything in return; it's done out of a love for Jesus and His church. True servants deal with humiliation and deep suffering at times, but Jesus gives us the strength to continue. And the amount we are willing to suffer, is the amount we will be glorified with Him. God has given different roles to people that bring Him glory and bring us peace. But Pastor Mat points out that with regard to those roles, the Bible teaches headship, not lordship. What is the difference between the two, and how does understanding and applying lordship glorify God? Pastor Mat explains it all in this study.
Is the communion ceremony becoming stale for you? Do you need refreshing? Pastor Mat reminds us that communion was given for us. And while the world is never quite enough, never fully satisfies, Jesus is more than enough. He delivers on all of His promises. Communion reminds us what Jesus has done for us and assures us that there is enough of Him to go around.

How do we pray for one another in the church? Pastor Mat looks at Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus and finds four basic prayers that the apostle made for the believers. It is a model we can follow as well. We'll also learn what our part is, if we want God to do exceedingly above what we could even think to ask in our lives.
We all face temptations. Are they impossible to resist? Pastor Mat looks at the Apostle Paul's teaching to a church that was taking grace for granted and living sinfully, reminding us that the last thing we should do is justify our sin. He also points out the importance of "just being normal" with regard to our Christian walk.
Pastor Mat points out that we should all be helping and encouraging one another; and in whatever we do to serve people, God will bless us. It has its challenges though, which should keep us on our knees. That's why he says we are only as strong as our prayer lives.
What is the believer's calling in the world? What does it mean to delight in the Lord? What does it mean to have a "transactional" relationship with Jesus? How do we resist being angry at the world situation, or being envious of the prosperity of unbelievers?
These are some of the questions answered by Pastor Mat as he goes through this psalm of David, penned when he was on the run from his son Absalom.
As Pastor Mat continues his look at the character of godly leaders, he stresses that the Lord will move heaven and earth for us if we truly desire to know and love Him more. He wraps us this study with a poignant look at the Father's love for His children, and how that should be evident in the heart of all true leaders in Christ.
How do we find freedom and blessing in the Church? And if we find freedom, how do we keep from abusing it?
Pastor Mat takes us through Paul's teaching to the Corinthians, as the apostle reminds them of the lessons the Children of Israel learned in the wilderness due to their continued sin. It's a strong - but honest - warning to the Church regarding abusing grace.
Do you find yourself consumed with temporal things like politics, news stories, the internet, etc.? Are you looking for a human savior, using human means to rescue us? Markus reminds us all who our real Savior is and why we can trust that He has everything under control.
Pastor Mat looks at the character of true teachers, learning from the example of the Apostle Paul, who did himself whatever he taught others to do. We also learn the secret of being a burden-taker instead of a burden-maker.
The Apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church that he has given up the blessings to which he has a right in order to more effectively minister to them -- because of their immaturity in faith. He could do the because he had purpose in his life. He believed God would take care of his needs because he was fulfilling his purpose in Christ. Pastor Mat points out how we also can have purpose in our lives.
Pastor Igor looks at "the Teacher's" futile search for meaning in life, and then reveals to us where we can truly find meaning and lasting satisfaction.
The fact that the LORD is coming soon means we have a lot to get done. We can't sit in our homes just waiting for Jesus, like some in the church in Thessalonica were doing. Pastor Mat looks at Paul's instruction to them - and us - pointing out that if we have true faith in Jesus, we will want to do good works for His glory until the day we are with Him.
King David messed up often in his life. But he took responsibility for his sin, rather than blaming others. And he prayed to the Lord: show me...teach me...lead me. Pastor Mat opens this psalm and looks at how sin should drive us to the cross, making us realize how much we need God. And we'll also learn the meaning of the phrase: "new life doesn't erase old debt."

Most people would say it is important for us to fight for our rights. But in 1 Cor. 9, the Apostle Paul lists the things to which he had a right, but then humbly gave up those rights for the sake of serving Jesus and His church. Pastor Mat points out that we are usually in the will of God when we make decisions that cause our lives to be harder. But when we give up our rights and trust that Jesus is bigger, we will find that He will take care of us.
In First Thessalonians, Paul is writing to a church living in a time of intense persecution and bewildered by last days teachings. In Chapter Four, the Apostle has words of comfort concerning their loved ones who have passed away already, giving them assurance about believers who die before Christ's return. Then in Chapter Five, Pastor Mat talks about the simultaneous harvest to come: when believers will be gathered to the Lord, and unbelievers will face God's wrath. Which will it be for you: wrath or rest?
Questions regarding eating meat sacrificed to idols prompted the Apostle Paul to teach on the need to balance our liberty in Christ with our love for others. We have comparable questions in the church today: celebrating Halloween, costumes, Christmas trees, etc. Pastor Mat points out that love must reign supreme. We need to be mature enough not to battle over non essentials, but also willing to forgo liberty if it stumbles others.

As we begin a new series through First Corinthians (actually, Paul's second letter to those believers), Pastor Mat points out that the church at Corinth often gives us examples of what NOT to do in the church. The question is: do we trust Jesus enough to die to ourselves and the temporal things of this world, to gain eternal life and bear fruit for His glory?
How do you spend your time? Do you find that you don't have time for spiritual disciplines like prayer, reading God's Word, church, or fellowshipping with other believers? We make time for what matters. So what matters to us? That's the question in this piercing study in Ephesians 5. Pastor Mat points out that Paul warns us to make the best use of our time -- because the days are evil -- and then leaves us no doubt about what would be the best use of our time.
Do you want God to reveal His ways to you? Pastor Mat points out that, as you develop a heart that wants to know God for Who He is, He will reveal deeper things to you. Our 11am service on Easter Sunday included readings by the students of GRCA showing how all the books of the Bible reveal Jesus Christ. This is a service focused on the reality of Spiritual Warfare. We begin with a powerful skit performed by some of the students at Great Rock Christian Academy, drawn from Ephesians 6:12, and the Apostle Paul's insights on the battle in the unseen realm. Then Pastor Mat takes an insightful look at the spiritual weapons given to us by Christ, and why we must not fight through carnal means. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
How bold are we to tell others we believe in Jesus and we have received Him as our personal Savior and Lord? Sometimes we can hold back because we're afraid of people reacting badly: criticizing us, mocking us, etc. Yes, there can be a cost to following Jesus. But as Pastor Mat points out, the earthly cost is nothing compared to the heavenly reward. If we suffer with Jesus in this life, we will be glorified with Him in the next.
Do you have questions about heaven? About the resurrection? It can be difficult at times for us to relate to what heaven will be like. The religious leaders during Jesus' earthly ministry asked him a question concerning the resurrection. They didn't really want an answer; they wanted to trip Jesus up in from of the crowd of people. The answer Jesus gave surprised them, because they didn't understand either the Scriptures or the power of God.
In John 11, we read about Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The reaction of the so-called spiritual leaders of the day? How can we kill Him. Why did they hate Jesus? Why do people hate the Lord and His church today? In contrast, we look in Chapter 12 at a woman who gave a beautiful gift to the Lord - literally pouring out her love for Him. And we learn, as Spurgeon wrote, we must sit at Jesus' feet or we will never anoint them.
We've looked in Malachi at the downfall of the spiritual leadership and then the people of Israel. They desecrated God's table; they devalued His Word; and they doubted the worth of serving God. Now we see that they doubted God's justice: why follow the Lord if He's not going to judge those who don't? But God is holy and just, and judgment is coming. Pastor Mat looks at that as we wrap up the last book of the Old Testament and then move over to Revelation to look at the Day of Judgment still to come.
Are we rich toward God, or only concerned with earthly treasure? Pastor Jin points out that we need to be willing to lose everything in order to gain Christ.
Is it a waste of our time to serve the Lord? Many Israelites in the Prophet Malachi's day thought so. Why? Because their spiritual leaders doubted God's love, devalued His Word, deprived His tabernacle, and desecrated his table. But those who still did fear the Lord encouraged one another in it. And if you are puzzled by the apparent prosperity of the wicked in our day, Pastor Mat has that same encouragement for you. Keep following the Lord; you will earn eternal dividends.
The Parable of the Persistent Widow is often seen as a model for our prayer life: we need to be tenacious. However in this study, Pastor Mat asks: Is it a model or is it a contrast? The Word of the Lord through the prophet Malachi in Chapter Two is directed at a severely wicked priesthood. They are warned that if they refused to take their sin to heart and repent, they would be soundly judged. They devalued God's law and stumbled the people. One way it manifested was in how they treated their marriages. In this powerful message, Pastor Mat points out what happens when God's people resist His truth and His work.
In the Apostle Paul's teaching on the Lord's Supper, he reiterates to us Jesus' desire that we remember what He did for us. Revelation Chapter Five begins with a sad scene, but ends with glory. A scroll is seen in the hand of God, sealed with seven seals; and the question is asked: Who is worthy to open it? No one in heaven above or earth below is worthy except the Lamb. Pastor Mat explains how Jesus conquered sin and death like a Lamb, and how we can have victory in our own lives when we follow His example.
Choices...that is what the Christian life is all about. God chose us; we in turn choose Him. But it doesn't end there. From then on, we need to fight to keep God on the throne of our lives, just like Israel as they entered into the land of Canaan, filled with idolatry of all kinds. "Unto us a Child is born..." writes the prophet. Whom is the "us" referred to by Isaiah? Pastor Mat answers that in this Christmas-themed study. We look at the tumultuous marriage of the prophet Hosea, seeing how the nation of Israel is portrayed by his promiscuous wife, and learning about the long-suffering love of our God who set His plan of salvation in motion when His children - us - least deserved it.

Why does God allow wickedness to continue in the world? That question has been asked since the beginning of time by those who seek to serve God. The psalmist asks it in Psalm 10: Why are You so far away, God? Don't You see what's going on? It can lead us to attempt to solve the world's problems in the strength of the natural man. But is that the right response to a world full of wrongs?
What distinguishes a good shepherd from a false shepherd? Pastor Mat answers that question by looking at the description given by the Good Shepherd Himself. Daniel 7 describes visions seen by the prophet of kingdoms spanning from Daniel's time, throughout history, right up to the final Judgement and the eternal Kingdom in glory. Even more exciting, he sees the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven to the Ancient of Days. Jesus speaks about this in Matthew 26. And Pastor Mat encourages all of us today to follow Daniel's example and look past earthly politics and governments to focus on the eternal Kingdom to come.
In John Chapter 8, we read as Jesus declares Himself to be the Light of the world. Further, He says that His followers will have the light of life. What does that mean? Throughout His discourse with the Pharisees, Pastor Mat reminds us that Jesus wanted them to be saved. Part of having that light in our lives means understanding the reality of heaven and hell, and the importance of having Jesus' heart for the lost.
Believers in Jesus have a firm foundation in their lives: the birth, life, death and resurrection of Christ. Nothing can shake the fact that Jesus died for us, says Pastor Jin. Now we need to build upon that foundation, realizing that we are the temple of God. Have we become complacent? Are we moving forward in whatever calling God has for us? Are we investing our lives in others? Find encouragement to keep building.
James finished his epistle with an exhortation for Christians to care for one another, especially through prayer. Is anyone afflicted, is anyone sick, is anyone struggling with sin? Pastor Mat says the remedy for all these is prayer. We need to have our hearts lined up with God's and to be a house of prayer. Learn more about this and also discover the glorious restoration possible for all who go astray and desire to return to the Lord.
Pastor Igor looks at two aspects of humility in this study through the parable of the Pharisee and the Publican. These are two men seen one way by the world, but seen a very different way by the Lord. Pastor Igor also reminds us very soberly that reliance on morality won't save us.
Do ever find yourself wavering between following God wholeheartedly and not? In First Kings 18, the prophet Elijah challenges the people of Israel to make a decision. The people were in a lukewarm condition, wanting to serve both Yahweh and Baal. Do we find ourselves being lukewarm? Get encouragement to make a clear choice, and also learn what it means to stand in the gap for others.
The Apostle John makes things simple, says Pastor Mat. If we do this, then we are that. He gives us a "litmus test" in 1 John 2 for whether or not we know God. We show we know God if.... We show we abide in Christ if... It's a call to remember that it is the eternal things that are important -- this world and all that is in it, is passing away. Do we know that we know God?
The moment you believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and surrender your life to Him, you have the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit awakens your mind and spirit to the things of God. Now you need to talk about Jesus to others. Pastor Mat points out that people will have questions when you tell them about Jesus, and the answers can be divisive. What do you do? That's just one aspect of this study in John.
Do you feel fruitful today? The Apostle Peter tells us we have everything we need for life and godliness, everything we need to be fruitful for God's glory. However, this does not mean it will necessarily be easy. Jesus' power is available for us, but is Jesus enough? These are some of the questions Pastor Mat deals with as we look at what it really means to be partakers of the divine nature and what we should add to our faith.
Which comes first: repentance or forgiveness? The answer may surprise you. Forgiveness is not one-sided, Pastor Igor points out. This study in Luke 17 takes a closer look at forgiveness, along with teaching how to biblically correct others when called for. After all, we want to build one another up, not be stumbling blocks.
What are we called to do as believers in Jesus Christ? In this study in John 7, Pastor Mat points out that the church is called to go out with the heart of Jesus Christ and meet needs. What does that look like? How does that unfold in our lives? This study answers those questions and gives us an exhortation to do something for God's glory with our faith -- given that He has opened up to us rivers of Living Water.
There should be a change in our lives when we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. And we should keep on changing. How do we keep the fire of our passion for Jesus blazing? Pastor Mat looks at that very question as he begins this series in Second Peter.
Interesting that Paul's letter written from prison should be known as "the epistle of joy." Pastor Mat points out, however, that if we have Jesus we can have peace and joy in any circumstance. In this study we also learn a "recipe" for how to pray for ourselves so that we will be filled with the fruits of righteousness, truly loving Jesus and others.
In Revelation Chapter Two, Jesus is giving John a message for the leadership of the church at Ephesus. He commends them for their labor, and Pastor Mat reminds us that we all should be laboring for the Lord's glory in the church. But there is a danger associated with serving the Lord, and Jesus addresses this is His words of condemnation and correction for Ephesus. Learn what we must do to overcome.
The Christian life is about trials. Our response to those trials reveals where we are at in our walk with the Lord, how mature and refined we are -- or are not. Few of us enjoy trials and temptations, however. Jesus faced those, as well, in His condescending to identify with us. How He dealt with them is a model for us, and Pastor Jin looks at that in this study in Luke 4. We have a definite weapon when Satan come against us.
Once we choose to follow Jesus there is a battle for our testimony. We see this clearly in Job, where the curtain is pulled back for us to see what is going on in the spiritual realm. Satan wants us to judge the love of God by our circumstances. However, Pastor Mat points out that God wants us to make choices that glorify Him no matter what our circumstances. Listen and find the key for being able to do just that.
John Chapter Six details the account of the feeding of the five thousand. Following this miracle, we see the people wanting to make Jesus their earthly king. Pastor Mat points out that, although Jesus is concerned about the physical realm and our earthly needs, He is much more concerned about our souls. He came to be the King of our hearts, meeting eternal needs, not just temporal ones.
In Mark Chapter Five, we read about Jesus going to the country of the Gadarenes - an area known for idolatry - to meet a man bound by Satan and his countrymen. But Jesus would go anywhere to set captives free; and Pastor Mat points out that churches of Jesus Christ should be able to minister to anybody, anywhere. Moving on, we also learn how we can be reconnected to God and then stay free continually.
The Book of Job can be challenging. It is likely the first book of the Old Testament written, and contains a behind-the-scenes look at the spiritual realm's impact on one man's life. Pastor Mat points out as we begin, that our response to difficult situations in our lives will reveal if they will be trials used to strengthen us or temptations used to draw us away from the Lord.
In this portion of James' epistle, he talks about wisdom from above. Wisdom is not merely head-knowledge, but it will be demonstrated in our lives in our good conduct. Pastor Mat points out that true wisdom, that wisdom from above, is also evident in its meek manner. It does not do its good works in order to draw attention to itself, but to bring glory to God.
In this portion of John's Gospel, we read about the feeding of the 5,000. People came to Jesus to get their needs met and problems fixed. We still do that today. And Jesus is always willing to fix things; He understands that we have physical needs. Pastor Jin explores this, and also looks at why it was important to Jesus to pick up all the fragments left over after everyone was full.
God wants to move in our lives and in our church...but are we ready and willing? The Psalmist thanks God for bringing Israel back from captivity, but declares now they need revival. How do we get revival? Are we ready for it? Or are we too focused on earthly things? What are the products or results of revival? Pastor Mat looks at all this in his study through Psalm 85.
In this portion of John's Gospel, Pastor Mat looks at the doctrine of Jesus' equality with God. This teaching of Scripture is much-maligned by the cults and non-Christian religions, so it is eternally important for us to have a solid foundation -- not that the Trinity can be completely understood by finite minds. However as Pastor Mat explains, although we cannot fully comprehend it, we can apprehend it. Listen and find out what that means.
No... Pastor Mat is not speaking about one of his sermons, but about one given by Jesus to His disciples concerning the Kingdom of God coming into our hearts. It is a well-known and much-loved portion of Scripture, but listen and find out why Pastor Mat says it is also "The Greatest Sermon Ever Preached."
This verse contains a wonderful promise from God. But to whom is the promise made? Pastor Mat starts off his study declaring that this verse is one of the most taken out of context in the Bible, by believers and non-believers alike. Find out why, and see what God is really saying to His people.
As the Apostle Paul bids farewell to the church at Ephesus, we see how much he loved the believers there and how much they loved him in return. That is the essence of ministry, Pastor Mat explains: truly love Jesus and you will love His people.
What should we do when a believer we know falls into sin? If we are not to ignore or excuse those overtaken with sin, what then are we to do? As we continue in Galatians 6, Pastor Jin looks at this question. We will also learn what it means for us to sow to the Spirit.
If you were sick for most of your life - in pain, unable to function - would you want to be made well? Some people really don't, because they've given up all hope. Among many infirm people at the Pool of Bethesda, Jesus singles out one man, not just to heal his body but more importantly to build his faith. Do we want to be made well? Not just physically, but spiritually, eternally? Pastor Jin take use through this event in John 5.
In this letter to the churches, the Apostle John presents an invitation for us to enter into a glorious relationship. He invites us to have fellowship with God and His people. What does that mean? How do we develop a living, breathing, loving relationship with God? How do we know we have it?
Believers in Christ don't always feel like walking in the Spirit. Why? Because of the trials we might face; because of the spiritual battles that we may have to fight. How do we overcome the temptation to give in? How do we keep Jesus on the throne of our hearts? Pastor Mat gives the answers from these verses containing the Apostle Paul's teaching on the works of the flesh versus the fruit of the Spirit.
In the first part of Galatians 5, Pastor Mat talks about two dangers in the Christian life that can make our relationship with Jesus fall out of balance. We'll also look at what it means when Scripture says we are walking in the flesh and what it means to be walking in the Spirit. Once again, finding the right path comes down to our individual relationships with Jesus.
Did you know that one evidence of true salvation is being chastened by the Lord? The author of Hebrews tells us that the Lord chastens - or disciplines - those whom He loves, who are His children. We don't always like it of course, but Pastor Jin points out that we don't have to like it for it to be good for us. Okay - so how should we respond to God's chastening? And how do we get to the point where He only has to tell us once?
We must either relate to God through the Law or through the Spirit. But since Scripture tells us that we can never be justified by the works of the Law, Pastor Mat points out that a true relationship with God can only be realized through the Spirit and our faith in Jesus Christ. Paul illustrates the choice we have to make by reminding us about Abraham's two sons: one born of the flesh, and one born of Promise.
As we continue in Galatians, the Apostle Paul confronts the church's departure from the principle of faith. The Judaisers wanted people to live holy lives by the Law, and they worried people would take advantage of grace and live however they pleased. Pastor Mat reminds us all that the Law is good but we are not saved by keeping it. How then should we live our lives?
As believers in Christ, we have peace with God, but do we also have the peace OF God? That is just one of the topics Pastor Mat will address in this study that looks at an invitation given by Jesus. In fact, every time the Word of God goes forth there should be an invitation to do something with it.
Paul's teaching in Galatians Two is packed with truths. Pastor Mat deals with a number of them as he goes through the chapter, tackling questions like: Do Christians need to be circumcised? What is meant by us being a "living sacrifice"? What does it mean to be crucified with Christ? And Does grace give the believer a license to sin?
What does it mean to be "born again"? How do you know if you are born again? In John Chapter Three, Jesus teaches a teacher what it means to be born of the Spirit. Pastor Mat points out that this is both a necessity and somewhat of a mystery; but it is possible to know that you are indeed born again. And it's very important, because Jesus tells us emphatically that unless a person is born again they cannot see God's Kingdom.
How is true Christianity different from all other religions? Pastor Mat declares that one important way is that it is not man-made. What does that mean? We will look at that as we continue with the Apostle Paul's letter dealing in large part with the importance of not adding rituals and other requirements to salvation by grace through faith.
John tells us how Jesus cleansed the Temple, turning over the tables of the money-changers. Their services no doubt began as a convenience for Jewish worshippers, but over time their ministry turned into a business that took advantage of people. Pastor Mat looks at how this action of Jesus often is misunderstood and misapplied in the church today, and then finishes with what it means for the Lord to "turn tables over in our hearts."
It is easy to go about our lives as believers in Christ and forget that we are surrounded by those who are lost. Pastor Mat's study through Jesus' account of the rich man and Lazarus is a sobering reminder that life is short and we need to be sure that first, we find our comfort in eternal things and not in the world; and second, that we remember to pray earnestly for those who are headed for a Godless eternity if they don't open their hearts to Jesus Christ.
In this study, we look at Jesus' first public miracle at a village wedding. It was not a spectacular event that everybody witnessed - only a few. The Lord often does His greatest miracles behind the scenes. Pastor Mat explains how this applies to our lives, and how we often find ourselves quietly blessing others without even realizing it. It's strong encouragement not to grow weary in well-doing.
Grace is mentioned over 100 times in Paul's letter to the Galatians. Churches are often reluctant to preach about grace, for fear people will take advantage of it and sin freely. Does the idea of grace cause believers to backslide into sin? Does fear of grace make us add works to it for salvation? How are we to think as Christians? The Bible teaches that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Does the idea of talking about your faith with an unbeliever fill you with fear? In this study in John Chapter One, Pastor Mat explains that God has actually made it very easy to share the Gospel. Like the apostles when they were first called, we just need to go to family and friends and say, "Come and see." As a bonus, he also tells us the "secret" to fixing every problem in our lives.
Do we live like the world around us...in futility of mind, past feeling, without hope? Or do we live like we have an eternal Savior, keeping a light touch on temporal things? Pastor Jin points out that the world wants us to walk in darkness, our minds corrupted by sin. The Lord, however, wants us to be renewed in the spirit of our minds, walking in true holiness. How does that happen? We'll look at that and also hear some important words about marriage as it represents an even deeper relationship.
Before getting into our passage in John's Gospel, Pastor Mat takes us through Leviticus 1, where we read about the Burnt Offering. Although this was a voluntary offering that anyone could make, it had to be done in a specific place and in a specific way. Why? That's what we'll learn as we then turn to the New Testament and meet John the Baptist and see what truly happened at Jesus' baptism.

When King David finally took the throne over all of Israel, his desire was to establish a righteous government. He expresses that in Psalm 101, and Pastor Mat echoes the importance of any type of government - whether civil or church - to have a heart after justice and mercy.
As he finishes up his series through the book of Nehemiah, Pastor Mat points out the danger when good leadership goes away. We can let ungodly things back into our lives if we don't stay vigilant. What do we let into our lives and what must we keep out? That's one focus as we wrap up our study on this amazing servant of God.

It also foreshadows the Church waiting for something very special, and emphasizes the one thing that really matters for us to leave to our children.
This message, originally given for Memorial Day, does emphasize the importance of remembering and reflecting upon what the Lord has done for us. But like the Israelites as they prepared to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land, we need to move forward into what God has for us next. Especially if you find yourself stuck in what has been, this message will encourage you to look ahead to what the Lord has for you now.

As the children of Israel crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land, the Lord had them choose twelve stones to leave as a memorial of what He had done for His people. Then He had them leave another set of stones. Why two memorials? And how does this help us pass our faith onto the next generation?
How can we live in this fallen world in a manner that honors God? Daniel was taken to Babylon as a young man, had his name and his life changed by a pagan nation. Yet he clung to the Living God, filtering everything he was taught by the world, through the truth of the Word of God. How was he able to do that? Can we do it? Pastor Igor gives us the key.
Worldly wisdom does not find God. In fact, man's intellect and religious fervor often prevents people from coming into a relationship with the Living God. So what does the Lord use to open our eyes?
