We Don't Go Out is a podcast where you'll find hosts, Ant and Dave, talking about video games, films and TV with many a tangent into the unknown. If you like what you hear please spread the word.
In this episode we talk GT7, Spiro, Dave still shunning the amazing Nintendo Switch for no good reason, The Batman and our film club (which still needs a proper name - @WeDontGoOut with suggestions). The film club films are The House and The Father - very different picks this time out and one clear winner, but which is it?
Back again with two more films to dive into. Enola Holmes and Hunt for the WIlderpeople are the offerings here. On Netflix, Enola Holmes, stars Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character Enola Holmes, younger sister of the already great Sherlock Holmes, played by Henry Cavill Enola embarks on her own mystery as she tracks down her missing mother (the ageless Helena Bonham Carter) and in doing so unravels more than she bargained for. Our second film, this one on Prime, Hunt for the Wilderpeople stars Julian Dennison and Sam Neil and is written and directed by Taika Waititi. Set entirely in New Zealand, it tells the story of Ricky (Dennison) who is bouncing about the foster care system and winds up in the care of Sam Neil’s Hector and his wife. But it isn’t long until they find themselfs at the centre of an unintentional man hunt.
In our first episode of the year we look back at the mess that was 2021 and find our “staying in” highlights - films, TV and games - and review our film club picks, which were Gosford Park and Gone Girl. You may not remember these being picked and you would be right. Our last episode is lost - it was a banger too, sorry about that. We also dive into the first solid news on PlayStation VR2! OMG it’s got lots of cool features! Of course we are excited! But should we be?
We are recording on new hardware now, it’s not gone fully to plan. I’m a bit quiet on this and Dave has some echo. We promise this will be resolved by the next record.

I hadn't noticed before that my (@AnthonyHulse) own top ten list actually consisted of 27 games. And Dave's (@DaveHolmes82) list was equally mathematically challenging. Februarys PlayStation Plus games are in coming! here what we think of that. MicroSoft want to buy EA? Come again? That can’t be real can it? Can it? Nintendo are selling cardbored and it’s wonderful or an utter piss take - we are split on this one listeners! We chat on a whole bunch of games, including the Breath of The Wild DLC, Tiny Metal, Steam World Dig 2 Wonder Book (remember that?), The Wolf Among Us, South Park: The Stick of Truth, The Inpatient and Dave tries to explain Hand Of Fate to me. EA closed beloved studio Visceral Games while famed game director Amy Hennig was in the middle of making a Star Wars game. Then they revealed some of their plans around the loot boxes in Star Wars Battlefield II fresh on the heals of the hoopla around loot boxes in Lord of The Rings: Shadow of War. So EA aren't flavour of the month. So in this podcast we spend some time talking about Visceral Games sublime Dead Space game and grumpily wondering what the hell EA are doing! Along with Netflix Club where we talk about The Visit and Gerald's Game before talking about the games that have kept us locked to our screens. Including Hue, which, at the time of writing this, is free on PS+. Soak us up, we're free!

Films galore! We've barely had time to play any games! That's not true, but we've been watching more than playing! I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore, the new Death Note film, Okja, Arrival, Mad Max have all been viewed, and Dave has been on a horror binge and has watched a host of scary films. Dave's dreams have been invaded by Roy and Moss because he's been watching so much IT crowd. Rise of The Tomb Raider to the rescue! We also take a look at our Netflix club film Frailty. In gaming news, DontNod have announced a partnership deal with Bandi Namco. We look at this exciting deal and wonder how it could push Tell Tale games - but, you know, it probably won't. And, yes, of course, our chat goes of on some tangents. You know the drill!
Me and Dave both set out to read Ready Player One but I am rubbish and fail. So we have a little spoiler free chat about that and what Dave thought about it. Dave's also been getting dirty skid makes playing dirt. I've been tackling Klaus, a tricksy side scroller on PS4. We've both been fumbling around the puzzle island that is the game The Witness. We add some new films to the Netflix Club, basically we deliver another podcast in the wake of any news! God we are good! Come soak us up!

Things get a little dark, well, very dark if we're honest, when Dave tells me about a film I've never seen or even heard of, a film Dave refuses to entertain and that has disgusted me. the rest of the the chat, GT, VR some upcoming games to watch out for and a bunch of films, is much lighter. As is always the case, post E3 is a bit light on news, light like a feather tied to a helium balloon. Less news for us to consume which leads to more time on our hands. So here we are with handfuls of time! Luckily we have games consoles that eat time! So we've been feeding our consoles all this extra time so we weren't short on stuff to talk about! Catching up on our respective back logs. All for the good of the podcast.
So another E3 has come to pass. All the predictions, rampant speculations and hype is behind us for another year. Sometimes that pre E3 excitement can be more fun than the show. But while this years show wasn't one of the best there is plenty to sink our teeth into! No extra, just listen.
E3 2017. I told my other half that E3 was soon and I was extra excited to record the podcast you are about to listen to. "It's always bloody E3" she said. She didn't understand!
E3 is special, me and you know that, we know it's a tactical game played by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft to see who "wins". A fascinating soap opera Christmas special. it's cup final day, with all the flag waving and hype. There are lots of video games shows, expos and comi cons these days. But none have the history. None have the magic. It's age lends it a prestige that sets it apart from the newer shows. Everyone saves somethings a bit special for E3. This year will be no different.
Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have all had highs and lows at E3 down the years. Nintendo are currently riding high on the better than expected success of the Switch, this is their first E3 show with the Switch, meaning they can put the disappointment of the Wii U behind them. Sony have been out in front this gen, leaving Microsoft to wonder where it all went wrong after being the top dog last gen. Sony will have a good show if they only show off up dates of the games we already know about but they are sure to have a few surprises up their sleeve. Big fat ones if the last few shows have taught us anything. That leaves Microsoft. Microsoft will show of new hardware. The most powerful games console ever. But they need to do so much more. So much more, and they know it. Microsoft's conference will be a fascinating watch!

Life is Strange has had it's sequel confirmed, that's pretty much the news, but that won't stop stop two fully grown men get very excited!

And our Netflix Club talks about Capote. Staring Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote, this is the story about the writing of his book, In Cold Blood, a book that birthed the true crime genre. It's the very personal and revealing story behind the book, focusing on the relationship that develops between Capote and the killers on death row as he interviews them over many years.

The game may never step out from the shadow cast by it's own development story, but lets try to talk about the game. Not it's time spent in incubation. How does it play? What's it like? Is it worthy of carrying the torch on from Shadow Of The Colossus? Me and Dave have both played it, listen to our first impressions on the Podcast. So let me just stress it here. Oxen free is fantastic! Wonderful story, endearing characters, great atmosphere, perfectly paced, it's everything you want, but daren't hope to get, from a "small indie" game. It works well here to stand against the game of the moment which we spend a good chunk of this podcast grappling with. That game, of course, is No Man's Sky. We Don't Go Out. That's our name. We really shouldn't talk about Pokemon Go because it's a game that makes you go out but it's to big to ignore. I'm playing. Dave isn't. Are you? Nintendo casually drop a new console. No biggie. It's not the one we are waiting for but it's the cutest little dollop of nostalgia you'll see this year. After I (Ant) neglected to hit record on our pre E3 show - sorry about that - we've got a bumper E3 review show! Hear us talk over the Microsoft and Playstation press conferences and give our thoughts and feelings on all that went down over in LA. Many people seem of the opinion that E3 is losing it's relevance but, for me, it's the best gaming expo around! It's just special. It's like the FA cup, it's got a bit of magic that the others can't recreate. I love E3. Long may it continue. This E3 was a doozy! Microsoft had two new consoles! I mean one was only hot for about an hour, then they announced the other one and made the first one irrelevant. But still, two new home consoles from one company - that's a first! And they had some games! And some looked good! Playstation had a stack of games! it was game! Bang! Game! Bang! Game, game, game! In your face! Boom! And they were all beautiful, surprising and new! They also made Dave "VR isn't for me" Homes think twice about VR. Me? I'm ready to strap it to my face and jump down the rabbit hole! Nintendo had a game. One solitary game for it's limping Wii U. Oh, but wait, it's Zelda! Take my money! Have it! Just give me Zelda and those new Amiibos!
Nintendo. Oh Nintendo. The rumours rumble on, the nay sayers predicting another flop, forcing the fans to overstate their passion and their conviction that THIS Nintendo, the NX, will be THE Nintendo... you know, the one that will satisfy the hardcore, get the third party's onboard and give all those Amiibo's purpose. That of course can't happen, it can't possibly please everyone, it's not bloody chocolate, people! But it sure is fun to speculate about all the genius/crazy things that might come from The Big N including the newest rumour about a handheld - because no one saw that coming! Nintendo aren't the only ones with a swanky new home console on the horizon. Microsoft apparently has two. Both a little baffling if you ask us. Sony has one as well. Do we need them?
