The final instalment of exploring the Baptist Declaration of Principle: Witness and Evangelisation.
One of the key texts is Acts 26:19-29. King Herod Agrippa, the grandson of Herod the Great (from the Nativity stories) hears the Apostle Paul tell his story, in the process asks Paul a very important question in verse 28 that should give us confidence that we are playing a long ball game in the context of personal witness and global evangelisation: "Do you think that in such a short space of time you can persuade me to become a Christian?"
O Happy Pentecost everyone!! Today we continue with our three-parter on the Baptist Declaration of Principle, and look at Baptist in the context of this Pentecost reading from Acts 2. God bless you.

Christ reconciled us to God through His death on the cross, so that we might be united with Him and one another; built together as a Holy temple with Jesus as the cornerstone.

If God is love (and He is), then He must define what love is (and He does). We have reached 1 Corinthians 13 in our journey through this long letter of Paul.

Through the Church, Jesus Christ redeems and sanctifies.
I Corinthians 11 tells us two details about Corinthian Church life. The relations and practices of men and women at worship, and the community life around at the Eucharist.
This is a great example of how Church sanctifies and redeems people from pagan practices that dehumanise, limit and reduce a person's life into chaotic idolatry.

In 1 Corinthians 9 Paul makes a logcal case for taking his rights as an Apostle, and then argues why he will not take them. Another masterclass from Paul the Apostle.

1 Corinthians 8 is a masterclass from the Apostle Paul. Doctrine is practical.
In today's sermon, Rev'd Richard Matcham explores the essential link between what may be technically right in doctrine and how this must impact right relating to one another. In short, Christian doctrine affects how and why we relate to one another.

In taking a slightly different approach, our pastor, Rev'd Richard Matcham brings a discovery at the heart of 1 Corinthians 7. It is a 'Law of Composition' called 'Radiation' - which is to say, from one central point in the text, Paul shows how the stuff of real-life relationships are affected.
This immensely contextual and practical chapter is a great example of the deeper work of Scripture that can be found by following the simple golden rules of Bible Study: 1. Read 2. Read 3. And Read the passage.

Today Rev'd Richard Matcham continues our series on 1 Corinthians 6. This chapter highlights two glaring problems for the church, and Paul's solution to each is the redeeming Trinitarian life of God.

In a sermon on 1 Corinthians 5, Rev'd Richard Matcham explores the relationship between Christ as the Unimaginable Answer to the Unthinkable Sin.

The Apostle Paul now concludes his argument against the Corinthian divisions by arguing about the folly of the Corinthian position and the reality of the Apostolic position. Using logic, sarcasm, love, and a father's heart, Paul exposes the folly of the Corinthian claims!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfjHIxNyaYE
Rev'd Richard Matcham explores 1 Corinthians 3 where we see Paul deploying multiple metaphors and repeated phrases to remind the Corinthian Church that their Corinthian ways are self-defeating and self-deceiving. Only Christ the Foundation can help them, and us!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQR6eZ86j-Q
Rev'd Richard Matcham explores 1 Corinthians 2 and shows how the revelation of God sets us free from having to wear all the masks we are so used to wearing in life. Even Peter Sellers The Pink Panther shows us a trick or two. The central point of Paul is the crucified Christ, the revelation of God and the Spirit's power.

Rev'd Richard Matcham preaches through the first chapter of 1 Corinthians. Factions are dividing the Church and Paul responds with a master class of Gospel truth.
We explore divisions, personality cults, the buffered self and the world-views of the Greeks and the first century Jews: Philosophical wisdom and dynamic signs. The point Paul makes of course, is that Wisdom and Signs should point to Christ: A Crucified Messiah.

Rev'd Richard Matcham explores Paul's Thanksgiving and opening prayer to the Corinthian church and considers the possibility that Paul, in affirming them, is also mocking them in order to get them to see their own folly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlc9aATSP0U
Rev Richard Matcham begins 1 Corinthians by exploring how the opening verses provide the lens through which to see the whole book.
The Apostle Paul enlarges the vision and capacity of the Corinthian Church to look beyond themselves and their self-sufficiency, to get them to see that things are better than they could engineer - their desire to get to the TOP is nothing compared with the desire of God for them (and us) to be saints.
