The military-industrial-podcast complex is a harsh mistress, and perhaps a methodical years-long journey through one of modern music's most divisive and obscure compositions is not the best way to reach people.

It's time to adapt, adopt and improve. That's why I'm excited to announce my new podcast, True Crime, Mail Fraud Time! New episodes released daily.

Page 141 of Cornelius Cardew's Treatise is blank. This week's episode of 1esf5m is just some hissing and boiler sounds from my basement. It's not worth listening to. I didn't know how else to represent the blank page in Cardew's score. Next week, we're back with our usual synthesized hijinks. Tune in.

AN APOLOGY: Sorry I missed last week's episode. The holiday, coupled with personal stuff, conspired against me and kept me away from the studio (such as it is). To make up for it, I'm releasing two episodes this week: page 130 and 131 of Cornelius Cardew's Treatise.

BIG NEWS: After recording 292 episodes of 1esf5m, I've decided to change formats and switch from electronic music to a true-crime podcast. Each week I will read the wikipedia entry for a crime in 5 minutes. While most true-crime podcasts focus on  grizzly, sexy, and controversial murders, 1esf5m will cast gimlet eye toward the vulgar excesses and shameless crooks of mail fraud. Tune in! It will be a wild ride.

This shift in format will leave a significant portion of Cornelius Cardew's Treatise unrecorded, a bit of unfinished business and a broken promise made solely to myself. Check it out: I don't care. True crime is the way of the future, and mail fraud kicks ass.

Mark and I got together for our first post-lockdown face-to-face recording session. Starting this week, pages 124-129 were recorded live, rather than socially-distanced file swapping.

Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981) composed Treatise, between 1963 and 1967.  It consists of 193 visual scores that can be played by any combination of instruments and interpreted in any way the performers wish.

Pages 51-75 of Treatise here. Featuring contributions and collaborations with Mark Nagy and Saint Current. All in glorious stereo, uncompressed and fit for your finest speakers or your favorite earbuds.

Pages 25-50 of Treatise here. Featuring pages 25-33 played as one continuous piece and collaborations with Mark Nagy and Mike Shiflet.

The recordings of the first 24 pages of Treatise are available here: cardew-treatise-vol-1-pages-1-24. Support this pod; throw in a few bucks, add some Cardew to your playlist.
