This week Pastor Ariel continued our series on James with Part 5: In God We Trust. Throughout his book, his writing has been very pointed, direct, and practical and chapter 5 is no different. He begins this passage with a very sharp-worded warning against rich people who were putting their wealth ahead of God. All wealth will fade, but only God is steadfast, and because of that, only God is the one in whom we can place our trust.

This week, Pastor Ariel continued our series in James, with Part Four: The Selfie Life. Our biggest problem is not other people; it’s not the circumstances that you’re facing with your job or family or finances. According to James our biggest problem is always US. It’s ourselves. James starts out by saying, Where does this conflict come from? Not only outward conflict but even the conflict that we struggle with inside of us— a struggle that no one even sees.

This week, Pastor Cara continued our series in James, with Part Two: Faith Works. James felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to write to the early church about numerous areas that must be evident in the life of every believer. These are things he thought imperative to live out steadfast faith in action. Each one was a key principle in the life of Jesus. The objective of James is to make the church become more like Jesus.

This week, Pastor Ariel started our new series on the book of James- Steadfast Faith in Action, with Part One: The Full Effect. The book of James was written by James, the brother of Jesus, and is a highly concentrated book, full of wisdom. This week, we looked at the full effect of trials, wisdom, sin, and obedience.

This week, evangelist Jacob Bock, shared a message with us about the choice we have between life and death. We have been given free will and we try to be good people, but because of our sinful nature, we fall short. Thankfully, we have a Savior, who was the sacrifice for our sins. Under his forgiveness, we live under grace, not the law.

Pastors David & Dana shared a message with us reminding us to be Steadfast. They encouraged us to continue allowing the situations in our lives to build strength and endurance which will enable us to remain steadfast in our faith.

This week, our guest speaker, Scott Smith, shared a message titled “Love of Money.” He reminded us that we can’t serve both God & money, and that we don’t save treasures here on earth, but in heaven. Money is the most widely discussed subject in Scripture- we are instructed to tithe 10% to God, give to the poor, and pay taxes. Scott challenged us to remember that we don’t have to have money in order to love it, but having money will not make us important or happy.

Nos recordó que no podemos servir a Dios y al dinero, y que no guardemos tesoros en la tierra sino en el cielo. El dinero es lo que más se discute en las escrituras, se nos instruye a diezmar el 10 % a Dios, dar a los pobres, y pagar los impuestos. Scott nos desafío a recordar que no tenemos que tener dinero para amarlo, porque el tener dinero no nos hace felices ni importantes.
Pastor Juan Carlos Escobar shared a Pentecost message with us, The Dove of Peace. The symbol of peace most known by many is the dove. The first time the dove appears in the Bible during the flood. The dove came and went from the Ark until the waters of judgment descended (Gen. 8: 8-12). When Jesus was baptized, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Him as a dove (Luke. 3:21, 22). From that day forward, the heavens were opened to begin the ministry of Jesus and bring hope to the world. The dove descended on Jesus, who refers to the dove as the Holy Spirit, who was upon Him for the fulfillment of his ministry.
El Pastor Juan Carlos Escobar compartió un mensaje de Pentecostés con nosotros, La Paloma de La Paz. La Paloma Blanca es el símbolo de paz conocido por todos. La primera vez que ésta aparece en la Biblia es durante el diluvio. La Paloma iba y venía desde el arca hasta que las aguas del juicio se secaron (Gen. 8:8-12). Cuando a Jesús le bautizaron, los Cielos se abrieron y el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre El en forma de Paloma (Lucas 3:21-22). Desde ese día al abrirse los cielos comenzó el ministerio de Jesús para traer esperanza al mundo. El Espíritu Santo al convertirse en Paloma, reposó sobre Jesús y allí permaneció hasta completar su ministerio.
Pastor Ariel continued our sermon series in 1 Peter with Part Two: Steadfast in Holiness. Holiness is like looking in a magnifying mirror- we believe we’re pretty holy until God reveals to me up close exactly what our heart and actions really look like. When we are hoping, we are God-centered; when we are holy, we are God-centered. The grace of God is the source of our hope and the holiness of God is the standard of our holiness.

Pastor Ariel began our new sermon series in 1 Peter with Part One: Steadfast in Hope. The book of 1 Peter was written by the disciple Peter, to be shared among non-Jewish believers living in various towns of what is now Turkey who were exiled, probably due to persecution of believers. Having steadfast hope was important for them as they faced trials and persecution; it is also important for us today.
La Pastora Ariel comenzó nuestra nueva serie de predicaciones de 1 Pedro con la Parte Uno: Firme en La Esperanza. El libro de 1 Pedro fue escrito por el propio discípulo Pedro, para que fuese compartido entre los creyentes no judíos exiliados que vivían en varios pueblos de lo que es hoy Turquía, probablemente debido a la persecución de los creyentes. El tener una Esperanza Firme para ellos era importante porque pasaban por muchas pruebas y persecuciones; lo cual es también importante para nosotros hoy en día.
This week Pastor Ariel concluded our series The Greatest Story of All Time. It is about the God who started the whole story and He will end it. He did all these things in the past, is still active today, and will one day come back and he will finish all of it. In every great story, there are surprises and there are challenges. There is a protagonist, a hero of the story, and there are decisions. Decisions that the characters make which determine the outcome of the story. And the greatest story of all time is no different.

This week, Pastor Ariel continued our series The Greatest Story of All Time, looking at Jesus’ ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The disciples never understood what on earth Jesus was doing while he was with them on earth. They didn’t understand when he told parables; when he healed the sick and argued with the Pharisee; and they really didn’t understand why he came back to life. When Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples thought he had more ministry to do- to overthrow Rome and start the political movement that they have been waiting for for three years.

Pastor Ariel continued the Greatest Story of All Time, looking at the passage in Luke 24 where two followers of Jesus were walking to Emmaus, when he suddenly appeared and began walking with them.

Pastor David finished our series on Jonah, focusing on God’s calling Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh. The city represented the place where God’s merciful redemption would be poured out; a people who would experience God’s merciful redemption; and a purpose for God’s merciful redemption to be demonstrated.

Pastor David continued the series on Jonah with the second sermon in the series. This week the focus was on the fish that God sent to swallow Jonah. While it seems like a terrible experience--sinking in the water, being swallowed by a fish, and spending days in the fish’s belly--we see in this message that God used those circumstances to change Jonah’s heart. It was a form of discipline that God provided so that Jonah would recognize his sin and repent. Ultimately, he was even able to give thanks for God’s rescue.

Pastor David began our new sermon series- Jonah: A Story of God’s Steadfast Mercy, with Part One: The Storm- God’s Merciful Awakening. We saw how God’s mercy was not only shown to Jonah, but also to the sailors with him on the boat, and the people of Nineveh.

Evangelist Jacob Bock shared with us this week how to stand firm in the unshakable Kingdom of God. We know this world is a shakeable kingdom- we are a broken and hurting society. Since the time of Adam and Eve, we decided to go our own way and are living under the resulting curse of sin. Nothing in this earthly kingdom is secure- our jobs, health, the economy are all things that can be, and have been, shaken. We have willingly turned our backs on God and therefore, the world is under a curse; this earthly kingdom will not become unshakable. — El evangelista Jacob Bock compartió con nosotros esta semana cómo permanecer firmes en el Reino inamovible de Dios. Sabemos que este mundo es un reino que se tambalea, somos una sociedad quebrada y herida. This week, Pastor Ariel finished our sermons series- A Story of Steadfast Love, looking at the book of Ruth. This week, we studied Boaz, who was a close relative in the clan of her family, and was known as a kinsman redeemer. Naomi and Ruth needed someone to help care for them. Biblically, there was a system where a close family member, known as a kinsman, could buy or redeem property, or redeem a widow who had been left childless; as she had children, they would carry on the family name. Boaz was that close relative for Ruth and Naomi. None of this was coincidence; it was by God’s design so that his purpose could be accomplished in their lives.

Esta vez estudiamos a Booz, quien era un pariente cercano del clan de la familia de Noemí y era conocido por ser un redentor noble. Rut y Noemí necesitaban alguien que les ayudara y cuidara de ellas. This week, Pastor Ariel continued our sermons series- A Story of Steadfast Love, looking at the book of Ruth. Naomi and Ruth had returned to Bethlehem, and the end of chapter one tells us it was barley harvest time, which would’ve been early spring. Two women without men to provide for them did not have the ability to get a job to even feed themselves. The only way to survive was either by the charity of others or finding a way to get food. Fortunately, God had already provided a system to care for people such as widows and foreigners.

Pastor Ariel started our new sermons series- A Story of Steadfast Love, looking at the book of Ruth. We started with Naomi (Ruth’s mother-in-law) who, along with her husband, and sons, left Israel and moved to Moab to escape famine and find a better life. While there, Naomi’s sons married women from Moab. However, Naomi’s husband and sons die in Moab, leaving her with two daughters-in-law. Although the story is about God’s steadfast love, the first character we see is Naomi. Her love for God and others was self-focused and self-centered.
La Pastora Ariel ha iniciado nuestra nueva serie "Una Historia del Amor Firme" mirando el libro de Rut. La historia empieza con Noemí (suegra de Rut) quién junto con su marido y sus hijos dejaron Israel y se mudaron a Moab para escapar de la hambruna y encontrar una mejor vida. Estando allí, sus hijos se casaron con mujeres moabitas. Sin embargo, el esposo y los hijos de Noemí mueren en Moab dejándola con dos nueras. Aunque la historia es sobre el Amor Firme de Dios, el primer personaje que vemos es Noemí. Su amor por Dios y por otros era enfocado y centrado en sí misma.
This week, we launched our theme for 2021- Steadfast. Pastor David shared with us about having a steadfast life- to have a steadfast life, we must have a steadfast mind.

Pastor Ariel shared a message on prayer and fasting. Jesus is our model for fasting- He personally fasted and He gave teaching on fasting. It was a part of the Jewish culture and religion that He grew up with. All of his early followers and listeners were Jewish and were familiar with fasting. We have His model and instruction to guide us. In Matthew 6, we see that Jesus expects his believers to fast. He indicates that fasting was a regular part of life and the religious practice.

This week, Pastor David continued our series, God With Us, sharing Part 2: God With Us in the Unexpected. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, despite the unexpected circumstances in our lives, God will be with us. Mary also had an unexpected encounter with God, through his angel Gabriel, when he came to announce that she would become pregnant and give birth to the Messiah.

We started our new series, God With Us this week, with Pastor David sharing Part 1: God With Us in the Unfulfilled. Much of this year has felt unfulfilled- many plans and dreams we had for 2020 couldn’t be fulfilled. There was a time period in the history of the Bible between the Old Testament and New Testament, that seemed like a very long season of unfulfillment. It was a gap of 400 years that are called the “years of silence,” that God had not been speaking through the prophets during that time. For 400 years, the people of Israel were looking for the Messiah, but had nothing more than the ancient prophecies to guide them. In Luke 1, God’s silence is broken through the angel of the Lord, who spoke to Zechariah.
Empezamos esta semana con nuestra nueva serie; Dios Con Nosotros con el Pastor David compartiendo la Parte 1: Dios con Nosotros en la Adversidad. La mayoría de este año se ha sentido "incompleto", muchos planes y sueños para el 2020 no pudieron llevarse a cabo. Hubo un tiempo en la historia de la Biblia entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento lo cual pareció una larga temporada de incumplimientos. Our current series, No Other Name, continued this week, with Pastor David sharing Part 5: Identity in His Name. We looked at the narrative of Saul, who was born to Jewish parents and had Roman citizenship. He had studied the Hebrew Scriptures under a renown Rabbi and was a Pharisee of the Tribe of Benjamin. Saul was radically against Christianity, led the way in persecuting the early Christians, and was present at the stoning of Stephen. However, on the road to Damascus, he had an encounter with Jesus.

Pastor Dana continued our series No Other Name this week, with Part 2: Healing in His Name. We read in Acts 3 that Peter and John saw a lame man at the temple gates, begging for money. When he asked Peter and John, they responded by asking him to look at them. He did so, expecting money, but that’s not what they had for him. They offered him healing in the name of Jesus. The lame man was helped to his feet; instantly his feet & ankles became strong, and he began walking, jumping, and praising God (v. 7-8). — Esta semana la Pastora Dana continuó con nuestra serie de NoHay Otro Nombre con la parte 2: Sanidad en Su Nombre. This week, Pastor Ariel continued our series, The New Normal, with Part 4: The Church After Pentecost and shared about the Holy Spirit in a corporate sense. Even though each one of the individual believers received the gift of the Holy Spirit, what made the early church succeed was that it happened to them all together. The Holy Spirit not only changed individuals like Peter into people of power and purpose, but he changed an entire group of people into the church.

This week, Pastor Ariel continued our series, The New Normal, with Part 3: Peter After Pentecost. We looked at the life of the apostle Peter, who experienced a significant transformation after the Day of Pentecost and his encounter with the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t a matter of knowledge or experience that changed Peter; he had been with Jesus daily for three years. Rather, a very specific encounter with the Holy Spirit made such a huge difference in him.

Pastor David continued our series, The New Normal, with Part 2: Spirit Filled. We continued in Acts chapter 2, where the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus’ death. This was the promise that they had been waiting for and this is the day it would be fulfilled and their lives would be changed forever. Living a life that was Spirit-filled would become their New Normal.

On our first Sunday together in-person, Pastor David shared from the book of Acts about the group of disciples and believers that had gathered together in the Upper Room waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit. They gathered together again, as they had done many times before, but this time was different. Their friend and teacher, Jesus Christ, had left them and would no longer physically be with them on a daily basis. But he did not leave them alone; he instructed them to wait for their new normal- the promise of the Holy Spirit.

We have all been given minas from God- a desire to do what pleases him (Philippians 2:13), power (Acts 1:8), grace, a voice, gifts & abilities, opportunities, and personalities. When Jesus returns, like the servants and citizens of the parable, we will have to give an account of how we used the minas He has given us. We have to choose- will we invest these minas to grow the Kingdom of God or will we hide them away? When we are called to give an account, will we hear Him say “well done, faithful servant!” or “you wicked servant!”?
