Christians are the 'most persecuted' religious group in the world. According to the Christian Post, the head of a California-based evangelical religious liberty group stated that Christianity is presently the most persecuted religion on earth based on evidence gathered. Dr. Carl Moeller of Open Doors USA said that, "In terms of sheer numbers, the large size of the Christian populations around the world, where they're repressed or restricted… Whether you count martyrs, those killed, or you count those living in regimes, sizable Christian populations live under extreme restrictions in places like China, Indonesia, and of course the Middle East."
Russia says Iran, Pakistan and N. Korea could pose a nuclear threat to the country. According to the Russian News and Information Agency, the former director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Vya-ches-lav Trub-ni-kov, said a nuclear-armed Iran, Pakistan and North Korea could potentially trigger regional chain reactions that ultimately threaten Russia's security. He said, "Even if Iran, Pakistan and North Korea are not Russian adversaries, their current and projected nuclear potential could destabilize the regional situation. It could trigger a chain reaction of proliferation that gives rise to a new missile threat for Russia."
Israelis reportedly believe the best time to bomb Iran is during the U.S. election campaign. According to Newsmax, a sense of inevitable war with Iran seized Israel as its two principal leaders -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak -- concluded that Iran is about to produce a nuclear bomb and is planning to use it to wipe out Israel. Some say they also have concluded that the time for Israel to bomb Iran's nuclear production sites is now (at the height of the U.S. presidential campaign when neither candidate would risk losing by criticizing Israel). Ehud Barak said that he was skeptical the pressures thus far had persuaded Tehran to change intentions about nuclear weapons.

Israel issues stark warning to Hezbollah over Iran. According to British newspaper The Telegraph, a senior Israeli military officer has warned that any Hizbollah retaliation to an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities would prompt Israel to launch a war in Lebanon so ferocious that it would take a decade to rebuild the villages it destroys. Despite the inevitable international outcry, Israel would be left with no choice but to lay waste to swathes of southern Lebanon because Hizbollah has entrenched itself so deeply within the civilian population. The unusually stark warning comes after months of heightened speculation that the Israeli government is considering unilateral military action against Iran's nuclear installations despite opposition from the United States.
U.S. wants "urgent" steps from Iran in nuclear talks. According to Reuters, the United States called on Iran on Monday to take "urgent practical steps" to build confidence during nuclear talks with world powers, and the European Union said Tehran must suspend sensitive atomic activities. Iran and the six powers resumed discussions in mid-April in Istanbul after a gap of more than a year - a chance to ease escalating tension and help to avert the threat of a new Middle East war. The major powers - the United States, France, Britain, China, Russia and Germany - and Iran are to meet again on May 23 in Baghdad.
US to conduct 'largest ever' missile defense test . According to Space Daily, the director of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency Gen. Patrick O'Reilly, said the US plans to conduct 'the largest ever test launch' of its missile defense program elements to intercept and destroy five 'enemy' missiles. The US has been working with other NATO countries to place such defense systems in the Asia-Pacific region and in Eastern Europe.
