The Student Social Work Hub
At the Student Social Work Hub we aim to provide a platform to promote the student voice. Our first series will follow two of the hub members Kristine and Fee during their final social work placements. With the addition of some guest student speakers, we hope this series will provide support, ideas, and reassurance to social work students embarking on their own placement journeys!
in the final episode of the series, Duane speaks with Dr Jess, to discuss her route into social work, some of her favourite current research she believes all students should read and finishes with some amazing advice for students wishing to become social workers! In the fourth episode of the series, Duane speaks with Tim Fisher where he discusses his passion for Family Group Conference! they then discuss some interesting research and books linked to his practice and finishes with a great story to round off the interview! (Video on our YouTube channel)
In the third episode of the series, Duane speaks with Abyd Quinn Aziz to learn about his route into social work, hear some fantastic stories during his practice, favourite social work theory and finally research he is interested in!
In the second episode of Hub Chat, Duane speaks with Dr Wahida Shah Kent to learn about her recent achievement of her PHD status, Critical Race Theory and advice for students aspiring to become social workers! (Video available on YouTube)
In the first episode of the series, Duane speaks with Mike Hayward to learn more about his journey into social work, restorative practice and a story from his days of practice. (Video version on our YouTube channel)
In this episode you will hear Kristine with a guest student Sophie who is also a final year student discuss what direct might mean to them in their placements. Sophie will also give us a bit of information about how different her placement is and recommend some resources that she has found invaluable along her journey.
