Welcome to Talking with Thunderbirds, where amazing things happen. This podcast will feature guests in the community of Tuba City that students deem to be heroes. They will interview these heroes about their job and how it led them to their current position.
Students learn more about our local community programs. They had the opportunity to bring three groups on our show from Azhe’e Bidziil (Strong Fathers), Asdzaan Be;eena’ (Female Pathways), and Project Safe Schools.
The students in Mr. Hosteen’s class have been reading the book, “Healer of the Water Monster” by Brian Young. Today they had the honor to speak with him on the podcast, “Talking with Thunderbirds.” Have a listen and hear about Mr. Young’s journey in writing this wonderful book that highlights the Navajo culture.
In this episode of "Talking with Thunderbirds" our hosts interview Mrs. Walters. Mrs. Walters is the COO (Cheif Operating Officer) of Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation. She describes her job duties and how the hospital has changed during the pandemic. She also shares stories of her childhood, travels, and much more.
Dr. Ha Cam Tang is a Doctor at Tuba CIty Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC). Dr. Tang is a Family Physician who has resided in Tuba City for 18 years. He shares his educational journey with the 4th Grade GT class and why he chose to become a doctor.
Dr. Sophina Calderon, is a Navajo Doctor at Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC). Dr. Calderon is a community member of Tuba City and has returned to help her people. She shares her experiences and shares great advice for our Thunderbirds that want to go into the medical field. She is a "Real-Life Superhero."
Every other day students see a blur run across the window. Students shout, "There goes Kyle!" Kyle won the Shiprock Marathon and qualified for the Boston Marathon. He is a former Thunderbird and came back to offer words of wisdom to students. In this episode, he shares his journey as a runner. Kyle is a member of the Hopi tribe.
Many of our students want to work in the medical field. In this episode we interviewed a pediatrician from our local hospital, Dr. Orman. He shares with us how he became a doctor and why he calls Tuba City his home.
In this episode we learn more about Tuba City's Health Promototion Coordinator, Gwendeleyn Riggs-Tallman. Her program helps promote healthy living through fun free activities for the Native American community. She organzies runs and much more.
In this episode we interviewed the Mr. Jonathan Nez, who will be our New Navajo Nation President in January 2018. He is the new leader for 350,000 + Navajos living on the reservation and answers questions relevant to the youth.
In this episode we interviewed the town's event coordinator, Mike Sixkiller. He is responsible for putting on fairs, concerts, holiday events, and provide a safe place for people to get to know one another. He also shares ideas for the future of our town, Tuba City. "Heroes not only change lives, but they improve them."
This episode features two real-life superheroes that are serving and have served, Mr. Smith and Mr. Tsinigine. Mr. Hosteen's 5th graders conducted and produced the podcast.
