Philemon is the shortest and most personal letter that Paul wrote. In this letter, Paul is mediating the reconciliation between two brothers in Christ, which will require a new mindset—that our status in Christ supersedes any perceived differences between us in society.

The worship of God's gathered people is to be marked with "love that binds everything together in perfect harmony" (Col. 3:12-17). The definition of a refugee is a forcibly displaced person. There are so many refugees in the world, displaced by war, drought, famine. Are we not refugees ourselves? Displaced from our true home by sin? God chooses proximity through Jesus the Son, so much so that when we accept His gift of salvation, He comes to live in our hearts! Many refugees are ready for the good news. Pray that God will use you to make a difference for His glory.

The Bible has much to say about how to keep going when life hurts. Following these principles will get you through: (1) Keep your eyes and hope on God by reading His Word and praying to Him; (2) Ask God to calm your fears with truth, love, and faith; (3) Believe the sun will shine again. Let yourself grieve, but don’t rehearse the hurt. Accept what you can’t change, and focus on what you have. Gratitude is a great antidepressant!

The book of James says if you have no control of your tongue, then your religion is worthless. You cannot perfectly control your tongue; you need something outside yourself. An unbridled tongue brings destruction, but the Spirit of God brings true freedom.

Most of the stress, regret, and misery in our lives comes from poor timing. God’s timing is perfect. He doesn’t reveal the future to us because it would overwhelm us, and He wants us to trust Him. 2020 taught us afresh that the future is uncertain. We often make three mistakes about the future: making plans without asking God, presuming we have tomorrow, and putting of doing what is good. To have God’s blessing, involve Him in your planning by praying and asking for wisdom (James 1:5), and also by living one day at a time, making it count.

Floccinaucinihilipilification – noun – the action or habit of estimating something as worthless. In the famous parable of “The Prodigal Son”—or perhaps more aptly “The Good Father”—suffering and the father’s goodness and provision drive the younger son to repentance. Your heavenly Father isn’t waiting for you to get it all together. If you will “floccinaucinihilipilificate” your “pig pods” of money, self, social status, or whatever you’re looking to sustain you, and turn toward Him, He longs to run to you and offer you a place in His family.

The parable of the Good Samaritan requires that we wrestle with three questions about the road to being a neighbor: a good question, a wrong question, and a convicting question. Jesus uses this parable to flip the word “neighbor” from a noun to a verb, from a narrow definition to a broad one, and from a law to be kept to an evidence of faith.
