Seriah talks with Ed Mischke, guiatrist of Spiritual Sickness, about their history, inspirations, and experiences...

Bio from their Facebook Page: SPIRITUAL SICKNESS is a Progressive Power Metal outfit that hails from the shores of Long Island, New York. These guys are certainly no newbies to the Local Metal Scene, yet always seem to find a way to keep it new and exciting with the insane complexity in their song writing.
The band consists of Jeff Kohler on Vocals, Ed Mischke on Guitar, Jim Nola on Bass and Mark Zapata on Drums. They are one of the most focused and passionate bunch of guys when it comes to writing, recording and performing their style of Progressive Metal. Their music is anything but simple to play yet these guys do it with such ease that you just cannot help but pay attention when you hear them.
Most of the members of SPIRITUAL SICKENESS started on the music road back in the 80’s when the Metal scene was thriving and the local scene was a tight knit group. Jeff Kohler, lead vocals for SS, started out as a drummer at age fourteen for a band called Shot Gun. He later switched to Vocals and that proved to be exactly where he should be. An amazing front man whose vocals are what makes him stand out in a crowd, the perfect ingredient for the intensity that Spiritual brings to the stage. Although Jeff and guitarist, Ed Mischke, were friends since they were young it wasn’t until many years later that they would collaborate and form Act of God. Ed Mischke is so much more than the Guitarist of SS, he is the constant driving force behind the band. Also starting out in bands since he was fourteen, Ed has always taken his music very seriously, challenging his skills on a daily basis and writing music that is truly original. Both Ed and bassist Jim Nola, have played together in several bands dating back, so it was only natural to have Jim join him and Jeff in their new adventure with Act of God.
The Metal journey together began in 2002 when Act of God (2002-2009) was formed. This proved to be a band that came out hard and heavy, instantly gaining the respect of Metal fans worldwide. They played several sold out shows sharing the stage with greats such as TESTAMENT, ACCEPT and GEOFF TATE just to name a few, as well as playing some iconic venues such as CBGB’s in NYC. In 2009, they were notified about a band overseas having the same name which prompted them to come up with a new band name. One of the lead guitarist, Ed Mischke, biggest influences is the band NEVERMORE and it was a line from one of their songs that the name SPIRITUAL SICKNESS was born.
They bring to the stage a thirty plus years of experience collectively, along with the same hunger and passion that fueled them when they started out as those fifteen year old teenagers from back in the day. At the end of 2013 they faced having to replace their drummer which proved to be quite a task due to the complexity of the songs. After a year plus search they found the perfect fit and welcomed Mark Zapata who brings with him the intensity in his playing that the band was looking for. Now that the line-up is completed yet again, SPIRITUAL SICKNESS is back and louder than ever.
Spirituals’ full length CD “Architects of Agony” hit the ground running and has yet to slow down, quickly gaining a worldwide fan base. Their follow up, self-titled EP left their fans excited as to what is up next for this powerful progressive Metal band. They are currently writing and recording their next full length CD which thus far has proved to be beyond everything they wanted it to be!

I spent some time talking to Jason Ashcraft, guitarist of Helion Prime. We discuss the band, inspirations, Sci-Fi, Science, and the future. Their Music Video is linked below. The song at the end of the interview is "Ocean of Time".
Download
Helion Prime was first conceived from a common love of metal and all things science. The band was founded when Jason Ashcraft (of Dire Peril) asked Heather Michele (of Graveshadow) to form a project with him. Between the two, they had worked with such artists as Mark Briody (Jag Panzer), Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers), Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), Ralph Scheepers (Primal Fear), and Niklas Isfeldt (Dream Evil). The concept; power metal with themes based on actual scientific theories with the occasional sci-fi tribute. The name Helion Prime was borrowed from an alien planet featured in the film "Chronicles of Riddick," a movie the two were great fans of. She accepted the exciting proposition without hesitation. The two recorded their first demo track in June of 2014, and with the help of members from Dire Peril and Axiom, Helion Prime debuted their first live performance in August 2014 at the Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA. The dynamic duo then released their first EP on February 26th, 2015 with a full length album in the works. Helion Prime’s lineup was completed after bringing Jeremy Steinhouse on bass and Justin Herzer (of Axiom) on drums. In August of 2015, Helion Prime set out on their first tour, playing shows in Oregon, Nevada, California, and Utah. Their debut album was released in early 2016...
I talk with all of Corners of Sanctuary about their history, latest album, and much more... The interview concludes with "Wrecking Ball" from their 2015 release, Metal Machine. Their latest music video is below as well.

Corners of Sanctuary was formed in early 2011 after members of a previous band, Seeker, regrouped in 2010 to celebrate the band’s anniversary. The reunion spawned a desire that brought members Sean Nelligan, James Pera and Mick Michaels to begin working together again. Vocalist Frankie Cross was added to complete the line-up. Each member had honed their craft while playing in several Philadelphia-area based bands. The need to return to their roots was apparent. With a direction and a sound that by now was inherent to each, Corners of Sanctuary (C.O.S.) began writing and rehearsing all original material. In March 2012, C.O.S. released their six-track EP, “Forgotten Hero”.
The band released worldwide a full-length CD titled “Breakout” in June 2012. The first single “Sanctuary” was received with positive reviews and was accompanied by a music video. It was quickly followed by the 2nd single “Wild Card” which also was made into a video. The band released their 3rd single “Juggernaut”, that hit the airwaves and followed by a 3rd supporting video. C.O.S. promoted the disc’s release with a string of private shows and radio interviews.
Since the release of Breakout, C.O.S. has been working with La Mazakuata Records (Mexico) to expand the band’s fan reach in Mexico, Central and South America. C.O.S. appeared on La Mazakuata Records’ compilation release Metal Invasion Chapter Two, which was released in December 2012. The songs “Sanctuary” and “Cross of War” appeared on the disc.
In November 2012, C.O.S. released the Holiday EP “December Wind” which included an all new, all original track “December Wind”. Also featured on the EP were cuts from previous releases and the first single, from the January 2013 CD release “Harlequin”, “Angels Only Dare”. A portion of sales from the Holiday EP had been donated to cancer research. A video for the “December Wind” single was also produced.
C.O.S. supported the Harlequin release with a string of live performances and interviews during 2013. The band released a new album "Axe to Grind" under the La Mazakuata records label and toured throughout 2014 in support of it. C.O.S. also worked with the German based Pure Steel Records, on the band’s very own European musical invasion.
Toward the end of 2014, the band joined forces with powerhouse American PR boutique firm Online Metal Promo to help them solidify the band’s worldwide presence for current and future musical recordings.
C.O.S. is currently in the studio working on their next album “Metal Machine”. Look for the album and new tour in early 2015.
Driven by the power and inspiration given to us by music, Corners of Sanctuary finds itself on the threshold of rebirth. Forged in the fires of classic Heavy Metal, C.O.S. comes full circle as the sound of yesterday lives again as the sound of today. Hard hitting, head banging, straight forward Heavy Metal is the mission - nothing less will do. Old School is back with a vengeance....It's is the New Wave of American Heavy Metal... Metal has returned!
