Happy Holidays everyone! Yes, that's how dumb it sounds in the winter also. When pursuing goals, are you completely committed or just going through the motions hoping big things happen? Why do umpires eject players or managers when they clearly were the ones at fault in missing a call? When you make plans and they don't go your way, how do you respond to the adversity? Life is not what happens to us but rather how we respond to what gets thrown at us.

I graduated high school 20 years ago to the day of this release and share some brief thoughts on a reunion from over the weekend. There is a movie that everyone needs to see immediately. The Denver Nuggets and Las Vegas Knights were recently crowned champions of the NBA and NHL respectively, but I'm most excited for the College World Series that begins this Friday. Do you only pray to God when you need a favor? Are you only looking for signs from Him that point you in the direction you want to go and ignore the ones that might offer the alternative you don't want to hear? After some theological questions I vent about false narratives revolving around umpire ejections and give my two cents to make it make sense.

Happy Mother's Day! I look back on memoires of my mother Diane. As I grow older, I wish I had her around for sound advice and to push me in areas I should improve on. I've made a decision to get back to church and am very excited about two possible fits. My heart is heavy on days like these but my head is full of motivation. I have some very big goals in mind and finally have a blueprint of how to achieve them. Just like bad things often do, good things can also come into our lives at the most random times. As Davy Crockett once said, "Be sure you're right, then go ahead."

Robert James is a Ring Announcer in both Professional Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. He and I crossed paths on the baseball field years ago as we umpired at the collegiate level. Robert grew up in in East Los Angeles and served our country in the United States Army after high school. He is very passionate about climbing the ladder in the combat sports industry and shares what it's like having best seat in the house. After a recent trip to an LA Kings game, I'm ready for more hockey in my future. The World Baseball Classic was phenomenal, but the biggest challenge moving forward is how to get more top pitchers to participate for the USA. The NCAA Basketball Tournament has also been wild and has left us with two Cinderellas that are vying for a spot in the National Championship Game. Sometimes at work I hear phrases that make me laugh; I totally can relate but I still find them comical. This week I became an official member of an organization that has been around since the 1860s. Last week was our 400th episode of GHS and we celebrate that big milestone on today's show. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57, but the result left many people upset at the officiating toward the end that overshadowed the previous four hours. I dive into the three constant criticism camps that most fans or media seem to always pitch their tent under. I also bring up a pattern I'm seeing in life where no matter what you say or do, your side of the coin is never allowed to come up. In other randomness, I share a couple weird Uber stories, rant about men vs women inviting company over, and wish a great friend a very happy birthday.

Full reaction to both the AFC and NFC Championship Games as we are now set for Super Bowl 57. I attempt to stand up for officiating after the craft took a major hit in multiple sports over a tough weekend. I call out Lebron's theatric tantrum as one of the worst displays of immaturity we've ever seen. I also offer up some experiences from the field when coaches would ask me to look for something, and they were still mad when I would then see it. If EVERY team out there thinks that officials are out to get them, then ironically that disproves the theory.

I make the case that it's time to remove the Dallas Cowboys from among the most elite franchises in professional sports. They have simply not lived up to expectations as I compare their unsuccessful streak to the likes of the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Yankees. Sometimes, you just need to move on. I also give my two cents on who I think are the most tortured fan bases in the NFL. Additionally, I do a brief dive into Championship Sunday which features two amazing title games in the AFC and NFC. Outside of the sports world, I examine the media's instant hopeful reaction to another tragedy and why we need to pay attention to when silence is censored.

I recap the Wild Card Weekend in the NFL and congratulate the Dallas Cowboys for their first road playoff victory in 30 years. Tom Brady didn't even have a license to drive a car way back in the 20th century when Dem Boys last accomplished such a feat. That said, the enemy of my enemy is my ally and I have no choice but to pull for America's Team as they face the gold medalist of annoying teams in the next round. I blast the Chargers for their lack of accountability and offer up possible perspectives of the officials who took on a ton of deserved criticism. Random thoughts took me to ask just how many pairs of shoes can a man have before it becomes a Man Card Violation. Mirrors are still legal in this country for now, but it's only a matter of time before they're outlawed for the hurtful feelings created by what looks back at the beholder.

After a terrible National Championship Game, college football has officially come to an end. In regard to sad endings, I ask when the right time is to take down the Christmas decorations, and you won't be shocked by my timetable. I examine the rumors that Sean McVay is considering stepping away from coaching at just 36 years old. It's playoff time in the NFL and that means predictions of all six games this most glorious weekend. On a serious note, how many young athletes need to fall due to medical conditions until we are allowed to start asking why this is happening? On a not so serious note, I combat the charge that says soccer is the most popular sport in the world and how that logic is extremely flawed.

We open the show with some Pearl Harbor remembrance and examining why the Greatest Generation seems so long ago. I also dive into a wide range of sports topics and offer my reactions. The great boxing referee Mills Lane passed away and has to be the most recognized sports official ever. I don't think Deion Sanders will be successful at the University of Colorado because the playing field will be more leveled. My LA Rams did the unthinkable and signed one of the players I hate most in the entire league. I disapprove of both the Transfer Portal and NIL in college football because over time it may ruin the sport. Tyson Fury is not only one of the greatest boxers of all time but is an incredible showman and inspiration as well. With the Christmas season in full swing, I argue that one day that the greatest federal holiday we celebrate will be removed from our calendar if we don't stand up to the steady attacks it receives annually this time of year. Jesse Segura is the second most well known Jesse from Alburquerque, New Mexico. Jesse Pinkman from the great show Breaking Bad might be more popular but only by a small margin. Segura and I met in the summer of 2018 as members of the same umpiring crew in the American Association. We have become very close friends over the years and sat down to reminisce while Jesse is in town. Random topics include our favorite candy for Halloween, not liking scary movies, and sometimes landing where you were supposed to in this crazy life. The LA Dodgers have once again not lived up to expectations. Are they cursed or just incompetent? If the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing while expecting different results, then at what point does a change in philosophy take place? I also have thoughts on USC football losing their first game and challenge them to look inward rather than make excuses. Additionally, Georgia has had record turnout in both their primaries and early voting for midterms. Weren't their new laws supposed to suppress the rights to vote? I also challenge those out there who paint broad brushstrokes over groups of people without providing evidence of your charges.

Today is definitely a show of venting. Yes, my LA Rams are struggling but that's not what I'm most upset about. I challenge the conspiracy theorists out there to put their money where their mouth is. If you knew what was going to happen or will happen in the future, then why don't you place a bet on it? Similar to politicians with mask mandates, could it be that you actually don't believe your logic or lack thereof? Another thing I'm annoyed about is setting clocks a few minutes early. Time only changes twice a year and we live in a time management pandemic of the non-punctual. I also vent about the movement to make the violent sport of football unrecognizable and ask why are we so terrified of seeing injuries when they are simply part of the game?

Look good, smell good, feel good, play good. I often wonder if I use big words correctly. Sometimes I have to stop and look them up to make sure. Language is important and it can be used in a way to sway opinions. With Aaron Judge recently hitting his 61st homerun, I look back at the summer of 1998 and the homerun chase. I'm terrified for the upcoming 49ers/Rams game this Monday night. Do women annoy women more than men annoy women? There have never been hurricanes in Florida before this week. It takes hard work to look mediocre, but a few sprays of solid cologne can step your game up. It's important to utilize all the senses.

I have multiple rants today where I demand change, listening to reason, and thinking for ourselves. I make an argument that one NFL team has a truly insensitive mascot name that is appalling in 2022. President Biden has declared the pandemic is over, but for most of us it has been for quite some time. ESPN continues to show their incompetence with a story regarding BYU and Oregon from Saturday. We have all dated people we know we shouldn't have and perhaps it is the perfect analogy for the love affair involving running quarterbacks in the NFL. Happy birthday to my old man, Dave Heersema!

I react to the first weekend of NFL games and USC's fast start. I am super fired up for the Sun Belt Conference making some huge noise with three big upsets as well. Why do certain fan bases go into hiding for six months and then pop out to run their mouths when their teams are irrelevant? I also explain why it was perfectly acceptable for Seahawk fans to boo Russell Wilson in his return to Seattle on Monday night. Other random topics include posting a flag for big cities facing crime, one group of people that annoys me, and some useful household hacks.

The NFL Season kicks off tonight as the defending World Champion Los Angeles Rams host the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills. The Rams will unveil their championship banner before the game and then turn the page to the 2022 season. I share some quotes from my girlfriend Valerie Byrnes who has had some nice wise cracks at my football viewing habits. I am livid at California Governor Gavin Newsome who continues to be a totalitarian. When will people realize that what is said by our overloads is actually the complete opposite of what they mean? The attempt to control every aspect of our lives never ceases. I recently watched the Manti Te'o documentary on Netflix and share my unique conclusion to the story. I'm very excited for the NFL to be in full swing this Sunday, but I also offer up one of the best high school football rivalries in the San Gabriel Valley that you might want to check out on Saturday.

As football is about to return at all levels, I lay out a few rules to live by for the best time of the year. It may seem like I'm only kidding, but there is plenty of truth in these policies. I give my take on finally seeing Top Gun Maverick and offer why a new show needs to step their game up. It's not about what others can do for you; it's about what you can do for others. We need to be productive and make money as part of growing up, but there is something to be said for the younger days where competing with your friends was all that mattered in the world. It has been 14 years to the day since a big moment changed my life forever. I reflect on the buildup to a difficult memory and the aftermath that followed. We have no idea when harsh obstacles will arise in our lives or where devastating blows will come from. I have lived my life knowing that at any time new challenges can come out of nowhere, so we have to embrace everything good we can get our hands on. We have no control of what happens to us; we only have control of how we respond. Adversity makes us all stronger if we're willing to not let it define us. With great conflict comes great victory. She discusses what it's been like as the spouse of one of the most legendary coaches at RHP and how she knows first hand what it means to fight through difficult circumstances. The best part of opening the show with a rant about knowing important dates for sporting events is totally messing up the day of the MLB All Star Game. I make the case that men need to send "Save The Date" invitations to their significant others to prepare for proper uninterrupted viewing. I also ramble about making the most of being a backup quarterback and how you can still be a very viable second string with the right mindset. I witnessed a dog being walked/transported in a wagon and I feel that this is another example of our nation's decline. I want to recommend a few sports documentaries and offer up a new technique to combine cooking food while watching UFC. Additionally, I have strong thoughts on some female athletes recently making headlines.

Two police officers were killed last week in El Monte, CA. Joseph Santana and Michael Paredes died as heroes when they rushed to a call for help in a city that is a handful of miles away from here. Los Angeles District Attorney is 100% to blame for this incident with his soft on crime policies. The movement to villainize cops is also at fault with its complete disrespect for authority. How did we get here and where do we go from here? It's time to pick a side.... For other far less serious topics, I vent about dog owners lacking training, College World Series observations, and the contradicting approaches to safety. The Tennessee Volunteers were the undisputed best team in college baseball this season and lost their Super Regional to Notre Dame with a trip to the College World Series on the line. I break down a situation with their ballclub over the weekend then led to multiple ejections. My two questions are why do some people feel they can behave poorly and why are they surprised when they are called out for it? Additionally, I vent about more biased national media coverage and how the woke NBA educated us all about magical shirts that cure any problem under the sun. In the Bottom Of The 9th segment, I note that the baseball diamond is the only place you hear men refer to each other with a certain term of endearment. On this special episode I recognize the anniversary of D-Day and offer my thoughts on why June 6, 1944 is so important to remember. My challenge is that each of us should show just 1% of the courage that those brave men displayed when they stormed those beaches that day. I also vent about the concept of "unintended consequences" and why it means you weren't paying attention in the first place. Other topics include gamesmanship vs cheating, only certain humans being allowed to show human emotions, and solely taking notice of negative traits. There has been over 100 college baseball playoff games throughout the past 4 days, and I would argue that it just might be on the medal stand of annual postseasons in sports. In the bottom of the 9th segment, I translate why the phrase "rabbit ears" is used on the baseball field and why it is actually ridiculous. Chris Albaugh has had an amazing career as a Public Address announcer in college and professional sports. You will recognize him as the current voice of Cal State Fullerton Baseball and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in Minor League Baseball where he has been a fixture as the eye in the sky for many years. Chris has previously worked fulltime for the Oakland Raiders and Lake Elsinore Storm while also filling in occasionally for the LA Clippers, LA Dodgers, and Anaheim Angels. He loves all sports but is most passionate about the great game of baseball for its uniqueness and traditions. Chris and I worked together in the booth for countless games when I was a game operations assistant, and we have been great friends who share a similar outlook on appreciating the atmosphere of athletic competition.

Mother's Day weekend included some amazing moments in sports. Before those topics, I tell a few memorable stories about celebrating with my Mom over the years. The Kentucky Derby was won by Rich Strike, the biggest longshot in the race's history at 80-1! Another shocking upset was Dmitry Bivol defeating boxing legend Canelo Alvarez at the Light Heavyweight division Saturday night. The LA Kings evened up their playoff series and the Rio Hondo Prep baseball team lost in the first round. RHP softball has a huge 2nd round playoff game at home this Tuesday afternoon that requires a large supportive attendance. He is among the top basketball officials in the nation and one of the most respected men in the industry. Paul Mize spent 35 years with the Los Angeles Police Department and worked primarily as a Homicide Detective. During his career, he also officiated football as a proud member of the Foothill Citrus Football Officials Association. Paul discusses his time in law enforcement and the similarities that occasionally arose while officiating football. The Los Angeles Rams have won Super Bowl 56 and are World Champions! It has been quite a ride for me as a lifelong fan with so many ups and downs. I cannot express enough what this title means to my family and I. It was a game filled with drama and so many different emotions. To win the Super Bowl in the City of Angels after returning home in 2016 is a surreal feeling. I've worked a lot of games with Dale and have shared countless laughs over the years. Dale grew up in Los Angeles and is a proud fan of LA sports. He and I discuss our excitement over the Rams being in Super Bowl LVI and talk about some other sports memories from the past. Way before umpiring, Dale was on the TV show Soul Train for a while and shares his experience from those good times. One of the only things I miss from umpiring is being able to hang out with great guys like Dale Gardner.

Super LVI in Los Angeles is set with an intriguing matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinatti Bengals. Championship Sunday did not disappoint and delivered two legendary conference title games. I rant about one of the biggest wins in Rams history over the dreaded San Francisco 49ers. Travis Carlson spent a decade umpiring professional baseball. He now works games in the ACC, SEC, and Conference USA. Travis resides in the Tampa Bay area and is a huge 49ers fan. After four of the best playoff football games in one weekend I've ever seen, we are down to the final four in the NFL Postseason. Championship Sunday will be the Bengals at the Chiefs as well as the 49ers at the Rams. There are plenty of storylines from all the games as each one ended on the final play. The Bengals and Chiefs feels like David and Goliath. My Rams are playing their in-state rival for the third time this season and are salivating for a win after disappointing losses in their last six matchups. David Guerrero graduated from Rio Hondo Prep in 1984 and played in 3 consecutive CIF Championship Games. Although his teams finished as Runner Up twice, they did win the 1982 title with an undefeated season. His sons have followed in his footsteps with great success on the gridiron as well; Dave Jr played on multiple championship teams and Jonathan just finished an illustrious career as arguably one of RHP's top running backs of all time. Scott Wideman was the quarterback of the 1977 Rio Hondo Prep football team that defeated Montclair Prep in 3OT for the CIF Championship. Today, he is an Assistant Director of Kare Youth League and oversees operations at Wingate Park in Covina. Scott was one of the most notable coaches from the West Covina Cardinals back in the day and was also a 6th grade teacher at Rio Hondo Prep for many years. Jim Hanna made one of the biggest defensive plays in Rio Hondo Prep football history back in the 1977 CIF Championship against Montclair Prep. In the 3rd Overtime, he intercepted the Mounties, and Rio would then score to win the title a few plays later. Jim has been a long time coach in Kare Youth League and is very active in the Sunday School for Kare Youthchurch. When you think of the Hanna last name, you think of RHP Football. Jim's brother, Mike, was as intense as they come. Jim's nephew, Brad, was my teammate and instrumental in the 2001 championship team. Jim is most proud of the legacy his three sons left on the gridiron. Chaz, Jake, and Robbie kept the Hanna tradition strong during their playing days which included multiple championship runs. Jim Hanna loves Rio Hondo Prep Football and shares some great memories from the past regarding friends and family. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Robby Burns is a Professional Snowboarder and is poised to become a member of the upcoming United States Olympic Team in 2022. He won two national championships at the University of Idaho before pursuing a dream of representing his country. Robby finished third a few years ago when the USA only sent two snowboarders to the Olympics. He will talk about the mental maturity of training and the emotions of getting so close to something you've trained for throughout your entire life. In the "offseason," Robby is also a Wilderness Firefighter in the Mount Shasta area of Northern California where his passion to train and prepare continues. We will all be cheering loudly for Robby in the Olympics in a few months. Winter is coming....

Rio Hondo Prep's season came to an end on Friday night with a 34-20 loss to Saint Pius in the 2nd Round of the Division 7 Playoffs. It may be over but the memories from the 2021 season will be remembered forever. Head Coach Mark Carson joins the show to talk about the team's emotional finish and the program moving forward. Senior Captain Paul Alena also chats with me about the great class of 2022 and what his RHP experience has been like. It has been an incredible year that propelled the Kares to new heights. Arman Aubakirov is a Pastor and Christian publisher from Kazakhstan. He recently spent a few months as a coaching intern with the Rio Hondo Prep football team. Arman found a passion for football after playing it back in his home country. He connected with former USC/NFL Coach Rocky Seto who directed him to work at RHP. Rio Hondo Prep defeated Charter Oak 37-30 in the 1st Round of the Division 7 Playoffs on Friday night. The victory shocked a lot of local football fans, but for those who have seen RHP over the years, it should come as no surprise. It was a battle of many former Kare Youth League members from both sides of the field. Rio Hondo Prep has won 14 CIF Southern Section Championships, but this win was arguably the biggest non title in their illustrious history. Head Coach Mark Carson often says, "We're just getting started." This couldn't be more true today as the RHP Football tradition has reached new heights and the sky is the limit. For those that still doubt the legitimacy of the smallest school in California to play 11 man football, I challenge you to reconsider after one of the most inspiring performances I've seen at any level.

Steve Martin played in Rio Hondo Prep's first ever CIF Championship Game back in 1972. Although the Kares lost that day, he and his teammates were considered the pioneers for one of the great high school football programs in the San Gabriel Valley. Steve went on to a great career in the sound industry and coached countless kids in Kare Youth League for many years. Steve Martin is an incredible man of faith and a tremendous example of perseverance. He shares an unfortunate experience that tested him greatly a while back that will inspire anyone going through hardships in their own life.

Dave Carson Sr has dedicated his life to making Kare Youth League a better place for children. He joined the organization back when it was called Boys Christian League and has always called it Home. Mr Carson and his wife Marian have raised five amazing children who have gone on to accomplish a great deal in the work of serving others. He won two national championships and lost a potential third in arguably the greatest college football game of all time against Texas in 2006. Desmond was surrounded by amazing coaches and players during his time at USC. He fought through injuries and stood out as a guy who was willing to do anything to help the team. Desmond played high school football for the Temple City Rams who happen to play against my alma mater, Rio Hondo Prep, tonight at 7:00pm. We chat about the recent firing of Clay Helton and the glory days of USC Football under Pete Carroll. Pete Clark has spent a significant amount of time in China as an English teacher to young children. He also has coached countless kids in Kare Youth League over the years. His passion has always been the concept of educating on both athletic fields and in classrooms. Pete recently suffered a heart attack and has come a long way on his road to recovery. The past few months for him can only be summed up as miraculous. In this episode he talks about the many blessings throughout his life and how God works in mysterious ways. I go over the Declaration of Independence, The Shot Heard Round the World, and 11 ordinary people who aided the American Revolution. I also talk about the inspiration of the Star Spangled Banner and the similarities between our flag today with the one that waved at Fort McHenry. The founding fathers were imperfect men, but many of them suffered greatly after signing their names to declare an independent nation. Today, we remember many patriots from our founding and reflect on the brave sacrifices from those who started the greatest country in the history of the world. Cheers!

Mark Saiz works in Player Security for the San Francisco 49ers and also has experience with NBA teams. He will take us behind the scenes of the day-to-day operations of professional sports teams from a security standpoint. Throughout his time in private security, Mark has worked directly for celebrities such as Ne-Yo, Chris Paul, and Kobe Bryant. After 30 years with the California Highway Patrol, he retired and now resides in Las Vegas. Mike McGaharn has a wide range of experience as a stand up comedian, voice-over actor, and character impressionist. He was also the Master of Ceremonies for the Kare Youth League Circus for many years. Mike played football for Rio Hondo Prep in the legendary 1977 CIF Championship game where RHP defeated Montclair Prep in triple overtime. He will share plenty of stories about summer trips, the Drain family, and growing up with his sister Maura. He is also a Sports Leadership Professor and the former GM of the Fullerton Flyers. Ed hired me as an intern for the Flyers when I was a senior at Cal State Fullerton.
