The Ktown Group
The purpose of Ktown: a Youth Podcast is to develop and encourage the presence of a youth-driven voice within our community. This platform will also provide opportunities to develop general conversational skills while acting as a hub for community discussion.
The podcast will cover such broad topics — some controversial and broad reaching — that the episodes will be interesting for adults as well as young people. Participants in the podcasts will vary, and special guests will be featured in some.
With COVID hitting, cities burning, and toilet paper running out at the store, 2020 has been an interesting yet terrible year. we break down the worst, best, and more of 2020.

Suicide is a prevailing issue around the US. Particularly, Alaska has one of the highest rates of suicide out of most states. We talk with Romanda Simpson a mental health expert and suicide survivor, and Andrew Mulder to discuss what leads people towards personal harm.

In the premiere episode, listeners were led through a dizzying array of topics by podcasters Jefferson Barry, Hiro Fifield, Nathaniel Johnson, Caleb Strait, and Evan Yoder. The podcast was led by host Austin Otos, of Ketchikan Youth Court, and co-host, KRBD volunteer John Bruce.
The participants pinballed from one topic to another, from the role of swearing in society, to spaghetti squash, the description of Dungeons and Dragons gaming, politics, pseudoscience, the ethics of incarceration, the role of war in global relations, wars over potatoes and bananas, teleportation, attacking ostriches and the podcasters’ most dreamed-of inventions.
