Holy Crap, Times Have Changed (S3-E4)
The JabberGuys uncover some beliefs from the past that will make you say, “What the hell were they thinking?” From leeches as a regular medical procedure, to Chicago’s ‘Ugly Law’ that was enforced from the late 1800’s to the 1950’s. WTF?!
Leeches were regularly used for blood-letting by doctors for a number of common ailments.
Arranged marriages were commonplace and child brides were often used by royalty to secure blood lines and preferred heirs.
In 1920, according to the census, about 12% of all American girls were between 15-19 years old were married.
The typical streets of the 1800s - lots of garbage including animal feces and animal corpses. NY had thousands of horses for transportation, with each producing 15-30 pounds of manure and couple gallons of urine daily.
Public executions were still conducted in Canada up until 1869, while it still happens today in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh’s ‘Chop-Chop Square’.
American prohibition created a government force tasked with hunting down people who were drinking alcohol
Blood sports were popular forms of entertainment, dog fighting, cock fighting.
(1881) An alderman in Chicago introduces an ‘Ugly Law’ to ban unsightly people from public view. Enforced up until the 1950s, and finally dropped in 1974.
Over 20,000 doctors declare that smoking is a treatment for asthma, with one declaring that smoking is no more harmful than drinking a glass of water.
Drunk driving was considered to be a rite of passage for young people up to less than 50 years ago. (The JabberGuys say … Don’t Drink and Drive!)
Bring your gun to school was common. … Not a good idea.

Women need a buildup and a process to be ready for sex. Men need a single visual cue and they are ready to go.
Science suggests that women have a more sensitive threshold for pain, but men seem to be bigger whiners when they are in pain.
Grudges … an artform for women. Guys have a disagreement, then forget about it.
Driving… women are typically good drivers, but they do tend to back-seat, and front-seat drive.
The work environment is not the place for personal gossip. Somebody please tell the women.
The bathroom. How many things do guys need… 5 or 6? A recent study found the average women needs greater than 300 items. WFT?!
Pets? Women like cats, men typically don’t and prefer dogs.
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, and a man marries a woman hoping she won’t change.
Grocery shopping? Men typically buy unhealthy items in the grocery store, and are passively aggressively discouraged by women.
Clothes shopping? Women have way better fashion sense, and men wear the same t-shirts and underwear until they actually fall off from deterioration.
Video games? Men are always ready to play. Younger women are more likely to participate, but older women have absolutely no interest.
Watching movies? Women tend to talk too much during a movie and are distracted easily making the man pause repeatedly… or ask questions about the plot to fill her in while she was wandering out of the room. Most women just fall asleep, needing to watch the movie again later, which means the man has watched the same parts of the movie 20 times. Lol
The JabberGuys realize they should have had a woman on the show for the female perspective. They plan to bring a woman on a later show to provide the other side… and explain the confusing behaviour to men.

What an Idiom (S1-E3)
The JabberGuys explore a light-hearted look at many phrases and sayings we all use to describe various situations, but where did these sayings actually come from? Some of the origins of these common phrases are hard to believe.
IDIOM: “Don’t Throw the Baby Out with the Bathwater”
OK… so hygiene wasn’t the strongest trait of the people from the 1500’s.
IDIOM: “Cat Got Your Tongue?”
Feeding the tongues of liars and blasphemers to cats in ancient Egypt.
IDIOM: “Saved by the Bell”
Truly a gruesome truth of people being buried alive by accident with a string to ring a bell just in case they awoke underground. Yikes!
IDIOM: “Pleased as Punch”
This one is especially disturbing about a puppet named ‘Punch’ who was a wife-beating serial killer, and part of the Punch and Judy puppet show. Watch the 1950 re-enactment and tell me those kids aren’t traumatized for life.
