The Kubricks
Formed in London, The Kubricks are a seven-piece band who mix ska, reggae, and infectious melodic pop.
After surfacing in 2013 with their debut EP, “Wasters & Wannabes”, The Kubricks soon became one of the must-see ska bands of this generation. Tracks from their debut release were supported by Huey Morgan on BBC Radio 2, and Tom Robinson (BBC Introducing – 6Music), and The Specials’ bassist, Horace Panter championed the band, claiming “I can hear Madness, The Ruts, Squeeze and The Clash in there…” The timing was perfect, and coincided with a new interest in ska music, as many of UK’s festivals began dedicating entire stages to the genre. Riding on the back of this wave, the band soon found themselves supporting legends such as UB40, Bad Manners and The Toasters.
Produced by Toby Davies of Gentleman’s Dub Club, the band’s first album “The Heist” was released in 2017. The UK’s longest-running skazine, Do The Dog, commented at the time that it was, “A very strong contender for album of the year”, whilst Bucketlist in Canada called it, “A gem of an album that makes ska and reggae seem like a perfect fit with 21st-century musical trends.” Tom Robinson (6Music) immediately shared the track “Down With the Dogs” with his listeners, and BBC Introducing in Essex soon began supporting the album, inviting the band in for a live session.
In November 2019, the single ‘Humans’ was released and the band has been busy working with Tom Donovan, producer and musician from hip-hop act, Monster Florence.
The Kubricks have honed their commanding live set, headlining their own shows and playing festivals across the country. They have played to tens of thousands over the years with appearances at Boomtown Fair, Bearded Theory’s Spring Gathering, Wickerman (Scotland), Godiva, Dance Ska La (France), Brownstock, and The London International Ska Festival, amongst many others.
'Getting On It' is a cynical observation about toxic masculinity and features on the new album 'Between Antipodes'.The music is very much a throwback to the classic sound of the 2-Tone bands of the late 1970s and 80s, such as Madness and The Specials.The track was produced in Colchester by Tom Donovan of hip-hop band Monster Florence.
‘BETWEEN ANTIPODES’ is the title track from the third album by The Kubricks. It searches for the spaces between opposing forces and opinions, and the common ground amid generational and cultural divides. Deliberately, The Kubricks ska sound exploits both pop and house devices.
The Sea is a song about losing it all and starting again.Taken from our most recent album , Between Antipodes, the track was produced in Colchester by Tom Donovan of hip-hop band Monster Florence.

'Criminals' is the second in a series of new singles from The Kubricks, their first new material since 2017's album, 'The Heist'.
Produced by Tom Donovan of hip-hop act, Monster Florence, the track explores some of the sentiments held in both the pre- and post-Brexit landscape.

'HUMANS' identifies with the effects that technology has had upon our lives, and reminds us of the simplicities and importance of physical connections between us all.
A return to the unapologetic ska of their first EP, ‘Wasters & Wannabes’, lead singer Peter Shreeves states: “With ‘HUMANS’, we tapped back into our ska roots, but at the same time wanted it to sound contemporary, with danceable beats and the brass at the front of our sound”.
'The Trouble in Your Life' is very much in the vein of a traditional Ska-stomper, and could be seen as a link between The Kubricks' first and second records.
The track itself was recorded live at The Blue Barn in Ely, Cambridgeshire. During the recording sessions for 'The Heist', producer Toby Davies then took the files, added his fairy dust, and this is what you get.
'Paradise’ is the latest offering from London’s 2-Tone champions, The Kubricks. Produced by Toby Davies of Gentlemen's Dub Club, it “makes ska and reggae seem like a perfect fit with 21st-century musical trends”, said Bucketlist (Canada).
Featured on the 2017 album, The Heist, ‘Paradise’ is one of 12 tracks which Do The Dog Music (UK) described as, “a very strong contender for the title ‘album of the year’”. Upon release, The Heist soared to the top of the reggae charts on iTunes. It attracted the attention of Tom Robinson of BBC6 Music, and BBC Introducing in Essex, who featured the tracks ‘Down With The Dogs’, ‘The Heist’, and ‘Better of Me’ on their radio shows. A long-time supporter of The Kubricks, Tom Robinson — as well as Huey Morgan — has also featured tracks from their previous release, Wasters & Wannabes.
In addition to their own headline shows, the band have supported UB40, Bad Manners, The Lightning Seeds, The Toasters and Buster Shuffle, with festival slots alongside The Skints and DJ Fresh. They have played to tens of thousands over the last four years with appearances at Wickerman, Godiva, Bug Jam, Brownstock, The London International Ska Festival and Brentwood Festival, amongst others.

Produced by Toby Davies (Gentleman's Dub Club, Maverick Sabre), 'The Heist' mixes elements of Dub, Reggae and Ska to create a unique set of pop songs set against the musical backdrop of London in 2017. Other tracks feature Reggae legend, Horseman (who recently guested on The Skints single 'This Town'), F.O.X. lead powerhouse singer Mitzi Fox, and London's finest soul singer, Sharlene Hector.

The single features the legendary drummer and MC, Winston Williams – aka Horseman, who over three decades has worked with the crème de la crème of the reggae world, including Tippa Irie, John Holt and Prince Fatty, to name but a few. His unique vocal style adds a fresh dimension to The Kubricks’ slick ska sound.
Alex Osiris — of hip-hop and rap outfit, Monster Florence — offered his take on the song whilst it was in its early demo stages. Oozing social angst and personal pride, his lyrics take another swipe at the system. Inspired by the events and characters surrounding the infamous Hatton Garden Heist, the song was produced by Toby Davies (Gentleman's Dub Club, Maverick Sabre). With their new album, The Kubricks have incorporated everything that made British ska a movement in the late 1970s, but with a contemporary production style.
