This week, the full gang is together to discuss a controversy surrounding the idea that streamers who play magic ranked events or tournaments are getting helped by their streaming audience and that it is an unfair advantage. Is this actually cheating? What about card packs, are we seeing a lower number of cards for more money? What does this mean for players and collectors?
We apologize for the delay on this cast, we had some technical difficulties.
(FACT CHECK: we do make a claim that set boosters were at one point 15 cards. Wizards of the Coast put out an article discussing set boosters a while ago, and in that article they do mention that the pack will be only 12 cards. We were mistaken; however, the rest of the conversation is still relevant)

Jeremy takes this cast on by himself and lays out an argument in favor of keeping the Reserve List. The Reserve List, for those who are unaware or new to Magic: the Gathering, is a reprint policy that Wizards of the Coast put in place after receiving backlash from a large reprint set that undermined the value of their game pieces. This policy has been in effect for over 2 and a half decades.

Vorinclex was "sort of" spoiled for Kaldheim. This has a lot of implications being that he is a Phyrexian Praetor. Who were the Phyrexians? Many new players may not know the significance of this pseudo-spoiler. This is an introduction to what Phyrexia was, its inhabitants, its core philosophy and religion, as well as the break down of the factions founded on New Phyrexia. A ton of great lore information without getting too far into the nitty gritty of the history.

About a month ago Wizards of the Coast banned more cards in attempt to remove perceived racism from the game. Jeremy and Dboe wax philosophical about this move and what it means for the players. Does it even matter? A content creator was also banned from the content creation program due to Wizards deeming her content to risque for the game. Is this the right move? Or is does it show a level of hypocrisy from the mothership?

On Monday, WoTC released an updated Banned and Restricted Announcement for the Formats: Standard, Historic. Both Agent of Treachery and Fires of Invention are banned from both formats. This has major implications for the future of Standard! What decks will now rise to the top? Should other cards have been banned?

Dboe and Jeremy get together for another episode of The Main Phase. WOTC recently announced a new format exclusively available on Arena, Historic. This new format is a casual eternal format allowing Arena users to utilize their cards that rotate out of standard.
Pauper has a new face lift as well! In a shocking announcement, Pauper has become an official format of Magic: the Gathering. WOTC has merged the paper and online Pauper formats into one cohesive format, sanctioning it along side the other eternal formats. What's more, 400 new cards have now been officially entered into the Pauper format, giving the format a new vigor not seen since its inception.
But with all of these new formats comes turmoil. Is WOTC producing too much product? Can players afford to keep buying into each? Or are players missing the mark, and should instead just pick the products that interest them only?
Oh, also Core Set 2020 has some amazing cards!

On May 13th, Wizards announced the replacements for Yuuya and Gerry in the Mythic Pro League: Savjz and Jessica Estephan. Both participated in the Mythic Invitational. Savjz has been playing Magic for a while and is a well-known streamer. Jessica is a successful pro player and had the highest pro points of any woman in the 2017-2018 pro season. With neither being the next in line based on pro points, the decision has drawn all sorts of attention. Matt and DBoe give their take on it.

Grand Prix are big events and, if you haven’t been before, intimidating, too. Not to worry, Matt and DBoe got you covered in this week’s cast. We talk about plenty of logistics to be mindful of: where and how to get your tickets, what sort of events will be at the Grand Prix, what to put on your schedule, and all the little things you should do to prepare so you come ready.
Later, we talk about one of the more daunting aspects of a Grand Prix: competitive REL (Rules Enforcement Level). There’s a lot to consider at a GP that you don’t have to at FNM or between friends. We go over rules you might often gloss over, how to handle infractions, and what to watch out for, both for yourself and your opponent.
