One of the most important tasks you can do each week in your children’s ministry is the personal follow up of the families that visit your church. Sure, your church sends a standard generic follow up e-mail, but you must know, the families that visited your church got one of those from every church they have visited – and likely deleted it without even reading it, because they all sound exactly the same - canned and boring. Nothing beats a personal follow up from you – the person who was delighted to meet their child and can’t wait to see them next Sunday!
So how do you make their visit to YOUR CHURCH unique and special so their search for a church will be over? Please know – it won’t be the preaching or the worship that brings them back. I have heard many times, and I am sure you have too: “We love the adult service, but I’m here because of my kid’s experience.”

1.Start with BANG – It’s a Horse Race not a Locomotive
2.BE RELATIONAL – your job starts before you ever take the stage.
3.Assume they know nothing – explain without assumptions.
4.Be expressive, excited, Exaggerate Voice and Gestures –
5.Set the Tone – you are the thermostat, not the thermometer.
6.Play the EYE BALL GAME – look at every child.
7.Use humor – verbal and physical – don’t take yourself too seriously.
8.ROLL with Distractions – things will go wrong, don’t let it spoil the spirit of the service.
9.Get off stage – move out among the kids. Be a moving target.
10.Keep it MOVING. Don’t beat a dead horse.
11.Don’t announce – Just DO it.
12.Remember it is GAME DAY – most things can wait until Monday.

Parents and Kids Ministry Leaders know that raising kids today is MORE than challenging - at times it's scary. Our world is determined to lead our children away from God and more aggressively than we could have even imagined just a few years ago. Shocking statistics are posted daily of kids leaving the faith and the church. How are we to respond? The answer hasn’t changed. God provided the formula for raising kids who can stand strong against the world in HIs Word and it’s still not only the best but the ONLY strategy that works.
Today on Kidmin Talk I’m presenting a keynote address I gave years ago on this topic. While the calendar says some years have passed, the content is as relevant as if I had presented it this week. In fact, it is likely more needed now than even when I originally gave it.
It’s a message not only for church leaders but for parents too. It will give leaders ideas for how to challenge parents but will give parents practical and real-life ideas on where they can start today to prepare their kids so they will be ready when the time comes to stand on their own.
