Anti-Visions: Recent Episodes

Erich Wimberly

There's a collision occurring and the tectonic plates of civilization are sliding beneath our feet. One vision perceives Western civilization as a mental construct that exists for the purpose of oppression while the opposing vision clings to objective reality. This collision of visions is destabilizing civilization as we know it. We stand on the chaotic brink of the extinction of one epoch as it collides with another. Join me as I seek to bring clarity to social, racial, and cultural confusion by explaining the thought systems that underly the chaos. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antivisions/support

How would you feel if you knew that someone was modifying and manipulating your beliefs without your knowledge? What if Big Tech uses this power with aggression and as standard practice? How do we know wether our perceptions and opinions about the world around us are our own or merely programming fed to us by big tech and media? In this episode Erich talks about the obsession Silicon Valley has with the behavior sciences so that they can modify human behavior in order to engineer what they deem to be a better society.

Horowitz: Whistleblowers share DOD medical data that blows vaccine safety debate wide open (Blaze Media)

On Monday, during Sen. Ron Johnson’s five-hour hearing on a “COVID-19: Second Opinion,” Ohio attorney Thomas Renz, who has been representing clients suing the vaccine mandates, presented DOD medical billing data from the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED) that paints a shockingly disturbing picture of the health of our service members in 2021.

Erich discusses the World Economic Forum's "Great Reset" and says that it reveals the contours of some of the patterns that undergird our current social dilemma. As a matter of fact, the Great Reset and its solution, "stakeholder capitalism," is just as much a threat to democracy and a constitutional republic as pancreatic cancer is to any individual. But the Great Reset prophets manage to blame the ills of society, which they helped create, on traditional democracy and capitalism while claiming to have the solutions. Find out about this cancerous agenda which, with the best of intentions, will pave the road to serfdom if not hell itself.

Erich discusses the frustrating reality that because our country is so polarized, regardless of how many facts one may have to make an argument against vaccine mandates, it's simply not enough to change anyone's mind.  He reviews some of the major issues in the debate and concludes that although these facts are extremely important and need to be debated in the general public, the only way to reach across the schism and rebuild unity among fellow Americans is to see the underlying mechanisms that are animating this current crisis of perception.  The next season of Anti-Visions will focus on these underlying forces.

In this episode I read an essay by Coleman Hughes called, "Stories and Data: Reflections on Race, Riots, and Police." In this article he addresses the basic premise of Black Lives Matter in the aftermath of George Floyd's death. (This article is read with permission by colemanhughes.org)

About Coleman Hughes:

Coleman Hughes is a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor at City Journal, where his writing focuses on race, public policy, and applied ethics. Coleman’s writing has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, National Review, Quillette, The City Journal and The Spectator. He has appeared on many podcasts, including The Rubin Report, Making Sense with Sam Harris, and The Glenn Show.

In June 2019, he testified before the U.S. Congress. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Coleman briefly attended the Juilliard School to study jazz trombone before dropping out to pursue a career as an independent jazz/hip-hop artist. Shortly thereafter, Coleman discovered a passion for applied ethics and public policy at Columbia University, where he graduated with a B.A. in philosophy. (colemanhughes.org)

Question:  How do we know that systemic racism exists?
Answer:   Disparities.  For example, the wealth gap, the health gap, the education gap, the criminal justice gap.

In this episode I explore the housing disparity, the wealth gap, the education gap, the effects of welfare, and the breakdown of the African American family.
Drawing on Thomas Sowell, Glynn Loury, and Wilfred Reilly, I answer these questions with data.

*Many who have dismissed the anti-slavery words of the founders of the American republic as just rhetoric have not bothered to check the facts of history. Washington, Jefferson, and other founders did not just talk. They acted.

Even when they acted within the political and legal constraints of their times, they acted repeatedly, sometimes winning and sometimes losing. One of the early battles that was lost was Jefferson’s first draft of the Declaration of Independence, which criticized King George III for having enslaved Africans and for over-riding colonial Virginia’s attempt to ban slavery. The Continental Congress removed that phrase under pressure from representatives from the South. When Jefferson drafted a state constitution for Virginia in 1776, his draft included a clause prohibiting any more importation of slaves and, in 1783, Jefferson included in a new draft of a Virginia constitution a proposal for gradual emancipation of slaves. He was defeated in both these efforts. On the national scene, Jefferson returned to the battle once again in 1784, proposing a law declaring slavery illegal in all western territories of the country as it existed at that time. Such a ban would have kept slavery out of Alabama and Mississippi. The bill lost by one vote, that of a legislator too sick to come and vote. Afterwards, Jefferson said that the fate “of millions unborn” was “hanging on the tongue of one man, and heaven was silent in that awful moment. (114)

Today's postcolonial rhetoric fuels deep resentment and extreme criticism of the British Empire's impact on Western Civilization. The hybrid offspring of Postmodernism and Critical Theory's ideology has so deeply infected the West that it has metastasized into a terminal disease from which no major organ has escaped. Make no mistake, the death of Western Civilization is the goal and all "critical social justice" endeavors are the "necessary" means to this end.

Remarkably, though, despite all of it's flaws (along with every other society known to man), the British Empire is the only Power in the world that ever confronted slavery, and not only put an end to it but fought it to the furthest corners of the earth. Power in itself is not evil. especially when those who wield it choose justice. If justice is desired, then someone has to have the power to effect it. Thankfully, the British Empire had a change of heart in the midst of the Atlantic Slave Trade, and in the zenith of its power it chose justice and used the full weight of its force and wealth by taking bold action throughout the world.

Don't miss this politically incorrect episode! Despite the fact that it stands counter to the prevailing vision of the day, it stands with the force of truth in the face of fiction. You could say that it is an "anti-vision."

This episode picks out 10 points from Critical Race Theory. I quickly run through them without commentary and then come back and cover most of them with some commentary.

Friday, September 4th, POTUS put out a letter banning Critical Race Theory in federal training of employees. This made some waves by issuing a ban on all federal training that involves Critical Race Theory. That covers almost every sector of our government as this theory is so entrenched in our system now. No longer will the government allow tax dollars to be spent on training that undermines the very existence of our nation. Of course, there is an uproar and there will be major backlash because as the hard left would say, this is just another example of fascism, white supremacy, and abuse of power at work. It’s cancelling free speech they say. Well, no one is saying that there isn’t freedom to publish and talk about CRT. We don’t allow Sharia law or the Bible to be used as the basis to train our federal employees, and yet there is absolute freedom for Americans to practice and openly speak about their religions nonetheless. The contention of the letter is that CRT is not only divisive and not only does it undermine the core values of our nation, but that it discriminates against and demeans certain individuals while promoting inequality.

If you'd like to know more about the letter from POTUS check out this post on the AntiVisions blog.

Topics covered in the podcast:

  • Racism is the "ordinary" state of affairs in society and its interactions.
  • Systemic Racism.
  • “White Privilege.”
  • "Interest convergence"
  • Racism is "permanent.”
  • All whites are racist and all whites are white supremacists.
  • Whiteness as Property.
  • Classical Liberalism is problematic.
  • Science, reason, rationality, and evidence are "cultural products" of white Western men and thus carry biases that favor those groups.
  • White Silence is Violence.

I probably won't get to do a podcast on that topic for awhile so I have posted an article I wrote on the AntiVisions blog. I intend to post more articles about policing and statistics as I find time.

In this episode I explore what Ibram X. Kendi means by "Antiracist." as outlined in his book, "How to be an Antiracist." I contend that the the antiracist theory that Kendi espouses is a binary construct much like the very system he purports to oppose.

I also seek to understand what particular "policies" he is talking about in his book and I conclude that although he doesn't spell it out, if you can discover the disparities in society then you can bet that these are the areas of policy he is most concerned with. But the question is wether these disparities exist solely because of racism.

This discussion leads to some data discussions on the wealth gap and some bones to pick with educational disparities.

I recently posted an entry about police brutality and statistics if you like that sort of thing. Either way I would love to hear from you and the website is a way that we can get a conversation going.

In this episode I synthesize some of the prior podcasts and I even rehash the Matrix movie as a parable of postmodern theory and the unlimited vision. But the meat of the discussion is about the early roots of the unlimited vision going all the way back to the French revolution where we explore a fascinating man named Francois-Noël Babeuf.

I explore the antithetical vision of equality vs. equity especially through Babeuf's "Conspiracy of the Equals," which is the fascinating primordial soup of Marx and Engel's writings.

Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell (Encounter Books)
https://www.encounterbooks.com/books/black-rednecks-white-liberals-paperback/

With permission from Encounter books I read through Thomas Sowell's essay, "The Real History of Slavery" as printed in Black Rednecks and White Liberals. Each "Fact or Fiction" podcast segment is approximately 10 minutes.

Thomas Sowell bio:

Thomas Sowell is the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution.

He writes on economics, history, social policy, ethnicity, and the history of ideas. His book, Discrimination and Disparities (2018), gathers a wide array of empirical evidence to challenge the idea that different economic outcomes can be explained by any one factor, be it discrimination, exploitation or genetics. His books on economics include Housing Boom and Bust (2009), Intellectuals and Society (2009), Applied Economics (2009), Economic Facts and Fallacies (2008), Basic Economics (2007), and Affirmative Action Around the World (2004). Other books on economics he has written include Classical Economics Reconsidered (1974), Say’s Law (1972), and Economics: Analysis and Issues (1971). On social policy, he has written Knowledge and Decisions (1980), Preferential Policies (1989), Inside American Education (1993), The Vision of the Anointed (1995), Barbarians Inside the Gates (1999), and The Quest for Cosmic Justice (1999). On the history of ideas he has written Marxism (1985) and Conflict of Vision (1987). Sowell also wrote Late-Talking Children (1997). He has also written a monograph on law titled Judicial Activism Reconsidered, published by the Hoover Institution Press in 1989. His writings have also appeared in scholarly journals in economics, law, and other fields.

Sowell’s current research focuses on cultural history in a world perspective, a subject on which he began to write a trilogy in 1982. The trilogy includes Race and Culture (1994), Migrations and Cultures (1996), and Conquests and Cultures (1998).

Sowell's journalistic writings include a nationally syndicated column that appears in more than 150 newspapers from Boston to Honolulu. Some of these essays have been collected in book form, most recently in Ever Wonder Why? and Other Controversial Essays published by the Hoover Institution Press in 2006.

Over the past three decades, Sowell has taught economics at various colleges and universities, including Cornell, Amherst, and the University of California at Los Angeles, as well as the history of ideas at Brandeis University. He has also been associated with three other research centers, in addition to the Hoover Institution. He was project director at the Urban Institute, 1972-1974, a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, 1976–77, and was an adjunct scholar of the American Enterprise Institute, 1975-76.

Sowell was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2002. In 2003, Sowell received the Bradley Prize for intellectual achievement. Sowell received his bachelor’s degree in economics (magna cum laude) from Harvard in 1958, his master’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1959, and his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1968.

In this episode I begin to explain what I mean by AntiVisions.  I riff of Thomas Sowell's idea of the Unconstrained and Constrained Vision.  I prefer to call them the limited and unlimited Visions. In many ways there is an ideological collision that’s occurring right now and the tectonic plates of civilization are sliding beneath our feet. The question is:  what is causing this clash of ideologies?

I believe the answer lies not in the ideologies themselves but in "Visions"...

In this episode I discuss the relationship of critical race theory to postmodern theory.  First I go through a short analysis of the basic definition of critical race theory from Wikepedia.  I talk about Derek Bell (the founder of critical race theory) and Kimberly Crenshaw (the architect of intersectionality).  The theory of Intersectionality and group politics are also discussed.

I will occasionally do short podcasts that I call "POINTS."  Essentially they are short follow up points or clarifications to the previous full length episode.  So today’s Points will be spinning off the prior episode, "Systemic Vision."  This is far from exhaustive, but I would like to share why the current Social Movement is not Marxist and why it’s not a conspiracy.

I also share more details about the history of Critical Theory and Post Modernism as it relates to the current ideology.  If you're interested then you will enjoy because it gets a little nerdy.

There is a whole new vernacular that has taken our nation by storm overnight, and a whole lot of confusion about that vernacular as well. Communication is at an all time low while noise is at an all time high. Words are being thrown around like “social justice”, “systemic racism”, “white privilege”, and “antiracist” for instance. However not everyone means the same thing.

What we are talking about are the ideologies behind the rhetoric, and these ideologies are driven by visions of the world which could also be thought of as gut assumptions and beliefs. What I would like to do is to look at what the current world influencers mean by their rhetoric and why they define the terms accordingly. The main person that I will focus on for right now is Robin Diangelo the author of "White Fragility." The world is talking about her book whether in Silicon Valley in Corporate America, in faculty meetings, or in churches... in essence, her ideas are worth talking about because she represents an entire movement with legitimate authority. She is not just a lone wolf out there peddling the latest ideological fad. References:

  • From the movie, the Matrix: “The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around. What do you see. Business men, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.”

Correction:

  • This is extremely important. Cypher wished he had taken the blue pill, not the red pill. I repeat, not the red pill! I will feel really guilty if some people took the red pill based on misinformation. And it's a good thing that I didn't post this podcast on Facebook or Twitter because this episode could have been censored, I mean taken down, for "fake news."
